A handover for DVB-H(Digital Video Broadcasting for Handheld) is the action of switching a receiver from receiving one signal to receiving another, when moving between the border of their coverage areas. This paper proposes new approaches for improving loss-free handover performance in the DVB-H networks. The proposed handover schemes are targeted to two different DVB-H receivers: One is for the receivers equipped with GPS devices. The other is for ones without GPS support. The first handover approach modifies the cell description table(CDT) proposed in the literature[1]. The second proposes a novel handover region estimation technique based on a new handover map table(HMT). This new handover approach estimates a predefined hand over region described in the HMT using measured RSSIs signal patterns. The estimation success rate is simulated and the benefits of the proposed method are discussed considering time and power consumption.
Using the repeaters is indispensable to WiBro services. Repeater types are distinguished by usage, output power and required performance. In the paper, we have studied on the WiBro digital optic repeater design which has excellent performance characteristic than any other repeaters. WiBro has specific characteristic on modulation method TDD(Time Division Duplex)/OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) so that it demands specified H/W to design WiBro repeater. Switching technique has been introduced because of TDD characteristic in each amplifier on the repeater. Time Advance technique has been considered because of OFDM characteristic among RAS(Radio Access Station) and repeater. In this paper, we have studied on these techniques to increase repeater cell coverage and distance between RAS and repeater.
Let ξ$_{p}$(z$_{0}$) be the pth quantile of the distribution of the survival time of an individual with time-invariant covariate vector z$_{0}$ in the additive risk model. We propose an estimator of (ξ$_{p}$(z$_{0}$) and derive its asymptotic distribution, and then construct an approximate confidence interval of ξ$_{p}$(z$_{0}$) . Simulation studies are carried out to investigate performance of the proposed estimator far practical sample sizes in terms of empirical coverage probabilities. Also, the estimator is illustrated on small cell lung cancer data taken from Ying, Jung, and Wei (1995) .d Wei (1995) .
This paper proposes an energy efficient adaptive relay station ON/OFF scheme with different frequency reuse factors (FRFs) to enhance the system throughput and reduce the transmission energy consumption for the transparent mode of 2-hop cellular relay networks (CRNs) based on orthogonal frequency division multiple access and time division duplex. In the proposed scheme, the base station turns on or off the relay stations (RSs) when they are overutilized and undertuilized based on the traffic density of the cell coverage, respectively. Through the simulation results, we show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional CRN in terms of the energy consumption with the same system throughput. Further, in order to increase the system throughput with low energy consumption, the best way is FRF 1 when the number of operating RSs is up to 4 and FRF 2 otherwise.

The heterogeneous LTE (Long Term Evolution)-Advanced networks comprising a macrocell and femtocells can provide an efficient solution not only to extend macrocell coverage but also to deal with packet traffics increasing explosively within macrocells. An efficient resource management scheme is necessary to maintain the QoS (Quality of Service) of mobile multimedia services because the LTE-Advanced system should support not only voice but also mobile applications such as data, image and video. This paper proposes a resource management scheme to guarantee QoS continuity of multimedia services and to maximize the resource utilization in OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) based LTE-Advanced systems. This scheme divides the resources into several service blocks and allocates those resources based on the competition between macrocell and femtocell. Simulation results show that it provides better performances than the conventional one in respect of handover failure rate and blocking rate.

Carbon black, activated carbon and carbon nanotube have been used as supporting materials for precious metal catalysts used in fuel cell electrodes. One-step flame synthesis method is used to coat 2-5nm Pt dots on flame-generated carbon particles. By adjusting flame temperature, gas flow rates and resident time of particles in flame, we can obtain Pt/C nano catalyst-support composite particles. Additional injection of hydrogen gas facilitates pyrolysis of Pt precursor in flame. The size of as-incepted Pt dots increases along the flame due to longer resident time and sintering in high temperature flame. Surface coverage and dispersion of the Pt dots is varied at different sampling heights and confirmed by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Energy-dispersive spectra (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Crystalinity and surface bonding groups of carbon are investigated through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy.

In this paper, we discuss a proposed two hop relay network with PB/MC-CDMA(partial block MC-CDMA) technique. The main advantages of PB/MC-CDMA system are the increased cell capacity and the high quality of performances. In the system, we employ relay scheme to focus on the coverage reduction and hotspot problem, hotspot is a location where a cluster of users are blocked or dropped for the reason of insufficient frequency resources. Frequency resource allocation scheme is put forward in a three cells system according to each problem. The simulation result shows the performance of the two hop transmission is better than the direct transmission and the proposed network can support much more users to relief hotspot effect compared to the conventional one.

In general, cellular network is deployed as distributed network architecture, so network equipment is spread out all over the coverage area. This case causes high cost. Recently, centralized network architecture has been deployable at cellular network since base station was able to be virtualized due to advance in computing power. The centralized network architecture in cellular network adjusts its cell radius dynamically and minimizes power consumption of the network. This paper introduces a new centralized deployment way of cellular network using SDR and cloud computing technology. Then, advantage and feasibility of the new network will be reviewed by implementing this novel network.
In this paper, we presented the window applicable blind-type frequency selective surface to control the coverage area of wireless communication in secure building or conference room. The proposed frequency selective structure has the reconfigurable frequency range depends on its blind rotation angle. To verify the proposed structure, we fabricated the window blind-type frequency selective surface with four-legged loaded element and ring-type element as a unit cell and performed measurements of the transmission characteristics for different blind rotation angles to prove the feasibility. The measurement results show good agreements with the simulation results. One of the advantages is that the proposed structure does not need to have a bias circuit, so it is very easy to implement at low cost and also can be applied to any planar surface for wireless security applications.

For the purpose of controlling the beam tilt angle of the base station sector array antenna, phase shifter is used. Phase angles of this antenna depending on the tilt angles are designed, and the patterns on the vertical and horizontal planes are simulated and analyzed for the evaluation of base station antenna. This analysis is used in the optimal design of base station antenna because of maximum cell coverage and incremented traffic capacity, decreased interference.
