The ratio of male to female patient of chest trauma was 3.4:1 in male predominence and age from 20 to 50 occupied 62% of the total cases. 2. The most common cause of chest trauma was traffic accident in this series. Eighty-one cases[54%] were injured by traffic accident and total cases due to blunt trauma [non-penetrating injury] were 113 cases[75.4%]including the cases with traffic accident, and remaining 37 cases[24.6%] were due to penetrating injury including 25[16.6%] cases of stab wounds. 3. Hemopneumothorax were observed in 645/[96 cases] of the total cases, and etiologic distribution revealed 78.1% due to non-penetrating trauma and 20.8% due to penetrating injury. 4. Rib fracture was found in 50% of cases. Common injuries associated with rib fracture were lung, brain and liver. 5. Most common symptom was chest pain and respiratory difficulty, and common sign associated with chest injury was decreased respiratory sound and subcutaneous emphysema. 6. Conservative non-operative treatment was performed in 94 cases[62.6%] and 56 cases [37.4%] were treated with operative treatment including 31 cases[20.6%] with open thoracotomy. 7. • There have been 1,039 accidents in laboratory(National Research Safety Headquarters). Accidents in laboratory has increased by 71.5% from 158 cases in 2011 to 271 cases in 2016. Accident analysis results show that there has been no death accident after 2011 when 5 death accidents happened. The results also show that severe injuries have been 23 cases(2%) from 2011 to 2016(7 cases in 2011, 2 cases in 2012, 2013 and 2014, 3 cases in 2015, 7 cases in 2016). Minor injuries shows increasing trend from 151 cases in 2011(92.6%) to 294 cases in 2016(97.6%). Among the causes of accidents in laboratory, piercing injuries by injector were 69 cases(10.4%) for recent 3 years, i.e. 22 cases(12.6%) in 2014, 18 cases(14.2%) in 2015 and 29 cases(16%). Piercing injuries by injector with infection such as viral hepatitis and HIV/AIDS were identified in 10 cases in 2014, 5 cases in 2015, and 10 cases in 2016.Therefore, we would like to contribute to the safety of laboratories by suggesting a guideline for prevention and post management of laboratory accidents.

  • A Clinical analysis of 59 patients of thoracic empyema was done who were received surgical intervention at dept. of thoracic surgery of the C.A.F.G.H. in the period of 2.5 years from January 1979 to June 1982. Occurrence ratio of Left and Right side pleural cavity of empyema was 1: 1.4. The predisposing factors of empyema were pulmonary Tbc. [49%], Chest pain [25%], Cough [8%], in order. B.P.F. was associated with empyema in 5 cases. The pleural cavity empyema was treated with several surgical procedures and conservative measures. Among of the 59 cases, the 30 cases [50%] were treated with decortication, 12 cases [20%] with closed thoractomy drainage, 9 cases with frequent thoracenteses, 5 cases with partial decortication and thoracoplasty and 3 cases with open thoracostomy tube drainage. Among of the 59 cases thoracic empyema, the full recovery were in 32 cases [54%], partial recovery in 20 cases [34%], not improved in 3 cases [5%] and 3 cases were died. The mortality rate was 5% and the recovery rate was 89%.

The operative procedures of pulmonary aspergillosis were lobectomy[8 cases], cavernostomy[1 case] and thoracoplasty[2 cases]. The postoperative complications were postoperative massive bleeding[reoperation, 2 cases], wound infection[2 cases] and no operative mortality.

  • From May 1977 to April 1990, 1000 cases of open heart surgery were performed under the cardiopulmonary bypass. There were divided into group A[500 cases, from May 1977 to June 23rd 1986] and group B[500 cases, from June 23rd 1986 to April 1990] which were analyzed, summarized, and compared. Of 1000 cases of open heart surgery, 677 cases[67.7%] were congenital heart diseases, and 323 cases[32.3%] were acquired heart diseases. In 677 cases of congenital heart disease, there were 545 cases with acyanotic congenital heart anomaly[A: 279, B: 266] and 132 cases with cyanotic congenital heart anomaly[A: 87, B: 45]. In 323 cases of acquired heart disease, most cases were valvular heart disease[315 cases, A: 133, B: 182] in which 357 valves were implanted. The operative mortality of congenital R acquired heart disease was 7.8% & 8.0%, and then overall mortality was 7.9%. The operative mortality was markedly decreased. [about half] from 10.0% of A group to 5.6% of B group.

  • A retrospective analysis was performed with 30 cases of canine urolithiasis presented in the period between January and December 2001 The miniature schnauzer (6 cases), maltese (5 cases) and Shih Tzu (4 cases) had higher incidences than other breeds. Canine urolithiasis occurred from one year till 12 years, but the most prevalent age was 3 years. Urinary calculi occurred more often in males (63%) than females. The most prevalent anatomic locations of calculi were urinary bladder (8 of 22 cases) and urethra (13 of 22 cases) in males and urinary bladder (10 of 18 cases) in females. The major mineral component of calculi was struvite (72%). In male dogs, out of 15 cases, 10 cases were struvite and 5 cases were calcium oxalate uroliths. And, in female dogs, 8 of 10 cases were struvite. In some cases, mineral composition and urine pH was not matched. In conclusion, in the dogs with predisposing factors for urolithiasis, regular examination or proper diet should be added to prevent the disease. And the mineral composition of calculi should not be predicted solely by the pH or crystal component of urine.
