Relationship among Variables of Affecting Career Decision Making in the Science-Gifted Undergraduates (대학생 과학영재의 진로결정에 영향을 미치는 변인간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to devise a model of career decision in the science-gifted by exploring factors of having influence upon career decision in the science-gifted undergraduates of our country, and by examining pattern and path of career decision. By suggesting a model of structure, which synthetically considered factors of parents (parental social support), school (stress of college life, adjustment to college life), and individual characteristics(problem solving ability, career decision-making self-efficacy, conviction for major selection)as for career decision in the science-gifted undergraduates through this study, the aim was to arrange the theoretical frame for career in the science-gifted undergraduates. The research subjects were 93(class of 2007~2009) students who completed education in 2002 and 2003 at the gifted education center affiliated with University, and 264 scholarship students(class of 2005-2008) by the President at home and abroad, who are receiving scholarship by being selected as a science scholarship student by the incumbent President. The measurement tools, which were used in this study for collecting data, are test of parental social support, test of problem-solving ability, test of stress in college life, test of adjustment to college life, test of efficacy in career decision, and test of having confidence in selecting a major. For statistical analysis of the collected data, SPSS Program and AMOS Program were used. As a result, the model showed a good fit to the present data in the science-gifted undergraduates, TLI=.928, CFI=.941, RMSEA=.059. It was confirmed to be a model that is accepted in the group of the science-gifted undergraduates. Also, hypotheses, which were established on the basis of a theoretical quest, could be known to have been all adopted except one path. The results of this study can be offered as basic data for developing program and implementing a system in order to broaden the width of understanding about career and to help the career decision in the science-gifted.

A Field Experiments Study for Coaching Effects Verification: Relation between Coaching and Self-esteem, Career Decision Making Self-efficacy, and Career Preparation Behavior (코칭 효과 검증을 위한 현장실험연구: 코칭과 자아존중감, 진로결정자기효능감 및 진로준비행동 간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between coaching and self-esteem, career decision-making self-efficacy, and career preparation behavior through field experiments. To accomplish the purpose of the study, as the purposeful sampling was selected 50 male university students in Chungnam, South Korea. This experimental design, 25 university students were assigned to an experimental group, and another 25 university students were assigned to a control group. The experimental group had four sessions of coaching program. The control group did not have any coaching sessions. After four coaching sessions, questionnaires were administrated again. To conduct ANCOVA, pre-measurement scores for each dependent variable were included as covariates and post-measurement scores were included as dependent variables. The result proved the effect of coaching on self-esteem, career decision-making self-efficacy, and career preparation behavior. As the results of analysis, for control group, there was no difference between before and after measurement for each dependent variable. However, there was statistically significant difference between before and after measurement for each dependent variable in experimental group. This result confirmed that coaching caused increase in the level of self-esteem, career decision-making self-efficacy, and career preparation behavior. The result like this has a significance to be able to be used as a basic data that used efficiently in the field of career guidance and HRD for university student.

Effect of Self-growth Program on Self-esteem and Career Decision-making Self-efficacy of Female Colleges (자기성장프로그램이 여대생의 자아존중감과 진로결정자기효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims to identify what effect self-growth programs has on self-esteem and career decision-making self-efficacy of female college students. As a result of the study, it was discovered that the self-growth program had a positive effect on improvement of general and academic self-esteem. The self-growth programs had a positive effect on all areas including selection of goals, information on job, problem-shooting and future plans out of the areas of career decision-making self-efficacy. The results of the study demonstrated that the self-growth programs had significant effect on improvement of self-esteem and career decision-making self-efficacy. To help college students respect themselves and others, set their own plans on their future jobs and be responsible for their future, more intensive and useful research on self-growth programs is needed.

A Study on the Factors Influence of Career Locus of Control on University Students' Career Decision Efficacy (대학생의 진로내외통제소재가 진로결정효능감에 영향을 미치는 요인 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of career locus of control on university students' career decision efficacy. For this purpose, it performed a questionnaire survey analysis on 476 university students in I city. According to the results of the analysis, the first is that there were not the statistically significant differences of career locus of control and career decision efficacy for subjects' background variables. The second is that it found the statistically significant co-relationship between career locus of control and career decision efficacy. Lastly, it found that career locus of control has positive effect on career decision efficacy. Given the results of the analysis, the inner career locus factors of control have strong effects on career search and career decision, and career decision efficacy played an important role on career related decision making and career coaching. In this point, it is required to perform more studies and analyses on career locus of control and career decision efficacy and on various career coaching programs in the future.

  • Purpose: This study investigated career identity, decision-making, and preparation behaviors among emergency medical service (EMS) students after clinical practice, aiming to enhance their career guidance by identifying influential factors. Methods: This study targeted 178 students enrolled in the Department of Paramedicine in K-do, G-do, and D metropolitan cities. Data were collected between March 14th and April 30, 2024. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0, employing techniques such as frequency, correlation, and multiple regression analyses. Results: The findings indicated that components of career identity, encompassing affective and cognitive aspects, exerted significant effects on career decision levels (career assurance and career indecision) (p<.01, p<.001), whereas behavioral factors influenced aspects of career preparation, such as tool preparation, information collection, and practical effort(p<.001). Moreover, career decision levels (career assurance and career indecision) were found to affect information collection, a subcomponent of career preparation(p<.05, p<.01). Conclusion: Considering these factors and actively empathizing with and counseling students would lead to effective career guidance in the field of Emergency Medical Services.

Structural Modeling of an Authoritarian Parenting Style and Academic Achievement among College Students (대학생이 지각한 부모의 지배형 양육태도와 학업성취도의 구조적 관계)

  • The main purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between perceived the authoritarian parenting style and academic achievement among college students. Specifically, it is hypothesized that authoritarian parenting would indirectly affect the academic achievement of college students through self-differentiation level and career decision-making self-efficacy. 283 college students, after the consideration of their grade and gender, were selected for this study as participants. Methods describing the primary analytical technique of Structural Equation Modeling were used for the study. The results demonstrate that an authoritarian parenting style negatively affected the academic achievement of college students. There are mediation effects of self-differentiation and career decision-making self-efficacy between the perceived authoritarian parenting style and academic achievement among college students. The findings imply that the positive development of adult children requires more egalitarian parenting styles than those used on early adolescents. Next, for female students, specialized career counseling programs focusing on reducing psychological career barriers and career stress are needed. Lastly, it is implied that parenting styles used on adult children in Korea may differ from Western styles. Therefore, it may be difficult to explain the relationship between parents and adult children with a traditional theoretical framework.

Relations among Work Hope, Career Attitude Maturity, and Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy in Korean College Students (대학생의 직업희망과 진로태도성숙도 및 진로결정자기효능감의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between college students' work hope, career attitude maturity and career decision-making self-efficacy. For this, correlation analysis, variance analysis and multiple regression analysis were conducted using 299 data collected from 8 universities in the metropolitan area, Yeongnam, Honam, Gangwon and Chungcheong provinces. As a result of correlation analysis between work hope and career variables, there was a positive correlation between r=.64 and .73 in each sub-factor. After performing a variance analysis to explore the differences in work hope between gender, grades and major fields, there were no gender and grade differences found, but there were significant differences between major fields. Also, as a result of multiple regression analysis, it was found that work hope affecting career attitude maturity was pathways, and in career decision-making self-efficacy, agency, pathways thinking, and goal were influenced. On the analysis result, the limitations and implications of this study were discussed using college students' work hope scale.

Analysis of the Differences Among Core Competency of Collegiate and Career Preparation Behavior, Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy, Career Barriers (대학생 핵심역량에 따른 진로준비행동 및 진로결정 자기효능감, 진로장벽의 차이 분석)

  • This study aims to get necessary information for designing the systematic and practical career preparation education program by checking the differences among core competency of collegiate and career variables. In order to do that, the core competence of collegiate was identified through Korea collegiate essential skills assessment(K-CESA), and the survey results about career preparation behavior, career decision-making self efficacy and career barriers were collected. And then the data were compared and analyzed to differentiate relationships among core competency of collegiate and career variables, based on the university types and the locations. The data were analyzed by ANOVAs and t-tests using the SPSS 21.0 program. According to the analysis, firstly, there is a difference in the level of collegiate essential skills depending on the characteristics of schools. Secondly, the students at metropolitan four-year universities feel more difficulties primarily in the variable of career barriers than the students at local universities and students at colleges. Thirdly, the students of high rank at core competence showed higher career decision-making self-efficacy and career preparation behavior than the students of low rank, and they feel less difficulties in the matter of career barrier. This study shows that in order to support students' career efficiently, it is necessary for each college and university to design career program by considering the core competency and the level of career development of students, instead of providing them with a unified and fractional program.

Impact of Career Identity and Career Decision-Making Type on Career Preparation Behavior among Nursing Students (간호대학생의 진로정체감과 진로의사결정유형이 진로준비행동에 미치는 영향)

  • This study identified the impact of career identity and career decision-making type on career preparation behavior in nursing students. The participants were 198 nursing students enrolled in the 3rd and 4th grades located in J province, and data were collected from June 14, 2021 to 27, 2021, using an online questionnaire. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical regression using SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. As a result, the mean score of career identity, rational type, intuitive type, dependent type, and career preparation behavior were 2.79(range 1~4), 3.78(range 1~5), 3.38(range 1~5), 3.01(range 1~5), and 3.51(range 1~5), respectively. Career preparation behavior was significantly correlated with career identity(r=.40, p<.001), rational type(r=.50, p<.001), intuitive type(r=.22, p=.002), and dependent type(r=-.20, p=.004). Factors influencing career preparation behavior were career identity(β=.23, p=.001), rational type(β=.31, p<.001), intuitive type(β=.27, p<.001), and dependent type(β=-.20, p=.002). These variables accounted for 24.6%p of the variance in career preparation behavior(F=11.93, p<.001). These research results suggest that it is necessary to establish a career identity and develop and apply a program that includes career guidance according to career decision-making type to improve the career preparation behavior of nursing students.

Effect of Career Counseling and Career Experience on Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy for High School Students (고등학생의 진로상담 교육과 진로체험 교육이 진로결정 자기효능감에 미친 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the satisfaction of school career education activities (Career counseling, Career and career experience, Career camp, Entrepreneurship and entreperneurship experience, Field trips, University or major experience, and Creative experience activities) in Jeonju high school and Gunsan high school students (568 students), and then to analyze career decision-making self-efficacy of its goal selection, job information, problem solving, and future plan by high (a), middle (b), and low (c) groups according to satisfaction level. Methods: After the career counseling training, questionnaires were surveyed. Results: Career decision - making self - efficacy was significantly higher in the a group than in the b & c groups by order of a>b>c group in the goal selection, job information, problem-solving and future plan by the educational satisfaction on career counseling, career and career experience, college or major experience, creative experiential activity classes (p<.001). The average satisfaction level of career camp, and entrepreneurship and creative experience class was a> c> b group order. There was not a statistically significant difference between the a, b, and c groups. Average satisfaction of field trip class showed a>c>b group order, and a group was significantly higher than b & c group. Conclusion: The higher satisfaction of career education shows higher self-determination efficacy of goal selection, job information, problem solving and future plan.
