  • Current steel makers are trying to develop new manufacturing process to secure price competition and to improve productivity by testing a various kinds of rolling condition of several kinds of steel at TCM. Accordingly, Reverse Mill operation for Stainless steel is changing to TCM operation and furthermore, even general carbon steel and electric steel plate are requested to be worked at TCM simultaneously. By these changing of rolling condition, it become to be necessary to develop new water-soluble cold rolling oil that has a characteristics to be suitable for various working condition and in this report, we would like to mention lubrication condition to fulfill requested characteristics of each steels and development and applying result of multi-purpose water-soluble cold rolling oil which has such an lubrication property.

An Approximate Model for Predicting Roll Force in Rod Rolling

  • This paper presents a study of the effect of rolling temperature, roll gap (pass height), initial specimen size and steel grades of specimens on the roll force in round-oval-round pass sequence by applying approximate method and verifications through single stand pilot rod rolling tests. The results show that the predicted roll forces are in good agreement with the experimentally measured ones. The approximate model is independent of the change of roll gap, specimen size and temperature. Thus, the generality of the prediction methodology employed in the approximate model is proven. This study also demonstrates that Shida's constitutive equation employed in the approximate model needs to be corrected somehow to be applicable for the medium and high carbon steels in a lower temperature interval (700∼900$\^{C}$).

용융아연 도금강판의 도금밀착성 개선 (Improvement of Coating Adherence of Hot-dip Galvanized Sheet Steels)

  • In the present work the adhesion failure of a hot-dip galvanized coating has been studied as a function gas composition temperature of strip and of atmospheric gas in furnace. The adhesion failure of the hot-dip galvani-zed coating is classified as three mechanisms : carbon deposition, oxide film formation and alloy layer formation. The adhesion failure due to oxide film formation decreased markedly by increasing the gases temperature of direct fired furnace(DFF) in order to improve the reducing ability of steel strip. Optimum conditions of operating and manufacturing facilities for improving the coating adherence are suggested by analyzing the interface between steel substrate and coating layer.

FCAW에서 용접변수에 따른 용접금속 강도 및 와이어 합금원소의 회수율 변화 (Effects of Welding Parameters on Weld Metal Strength and Recovery of Alloying Elements in FCAW)

  • 590MPa grade weldable steels were gas metal arc welded with flux cored wires. Welding parameters such as current, voltage, and speed were varied independently. Effects of each parameter on the strength and chemical composition of weld metal were investigated. Increase of voltage caused decrease of weld metal tensile strength due to the low recovery of alloying elements such as carbon and manganese. On the contrary, increase of current and speed resulted in increase of weld metal strength because of higher recovery of the alloying elements.

  • This paper reviews corrosion characteristics of welded in the area of 409 Stainless Steel, Aluminium and Carbon steel. The effects of alloying elements and welding conditions on the intergranular-corrosion in weldment of the 409 stainless steels(SS) were investigated. And then this was to investigate factors affecting the composition and concentrations of fumes generated from various types of welding processes. It is also suggested that the direct relationship between the corrosion characteristics and welding type be clarified by experimental and analytical results.

  • Likelihood of failure (LOF) for the external corrosion of stainless steel, which affect to a risk of facilities, was analyzed quantitatively through the risk based inspection using API-581 BRD. We found that the technical module subfactor (TMSF) decreased as the inspection number increased and it increased as the inspection effectiveness and the used year increased, and that the TMSF showed high value for the case of the marine/cooling tower drift area as a corrosion driver, In this condition, the LOF for the external corrosion of stainless steel had lower than that for the carbon and low alloy steels

  • We have investigated traits of clad metals in hot-rolled clad steel plates, sensitization and mechanical properties of STS 316 steel plate and carbon steel(A516). Clad steel plates were butt-weld by SAW+SMAW, and with the time of heat treatment as the variable, heat treatment was conducted at $625^{\circ}C$, for 80, 160, 320, 640, 1280 minutes. As a way to evaluate it, sectioned weldments and external surfaces were investigated to reveal the degree of sensitization by mechanical property, etching and those of EPR test, results were compared with it. In short, the purpose of this study is suggesting some considerations in developing on-site techniques to evaluate the sensitization of stainless steels.

  • In the steel industry, a steel melting electric arc furnace is used to produce both carbon and alloy steels. Steel scrap which is charged into the furnace is heated by means of electric arc between graphite electrodes and the scrap. In this melting process, current is supplied to the furnace through HCC(high current cable) which connect the furnace and transformer. Four HCCs are assigned to each phase in our system to divide the current. Since a sudden cable breaking result in the shutdown of melting process, an aging detection of HCC is very important for both an improvement of productivity and cost reduction. In this paper, the aging of the HCC is estimated by using the current ratio between four HCCs.

  • Simulations of warm and hot forming processes need reliable expressions of flow stress at high temperatures. To get flow stress of the materials usually tension, compression and torsion tests are conducted. In this study, hot compression tests were adopted to get flow stress of medium carbon steel. Experiments have been conducted under both isothermal, near constant strain rate in the temperature ranges 650~100$0^{\circ}C$. Phase transformation takes place by temperature changes for steels in hot and warm forging stage. So Constitutive equation are formulated as the function of strain, strain rate and temperature for isothermal conditions and phase transformation.

산세생략형 열연 용융아연도금강판의 특성 (A Study on Coating Adhesion of Hot Rolled Galvanized Iron Manufactured without pickling process)

  • Coating adherance behavior of low carbon steels, produced by POSCO, Korea, was studied in order to study the characteristics of hot rolled galvanized iron(HGI) manufactured without pickling line and the development of its process. Galvanizing experiments were carried out in zinc pot with 0.2wt% Al after hot rolled plates with scale were reduced at $550~750^{\circ}C$ in 10~30% hydrogen gas atmosphere during 60~400seconds. The reduced plates and coated products were examined by SST, XRD, SEM and EPMA on their surfaces and cross sections. Coating layer of HGI manufactured with pickling line was composed of retained scale, Fe-Zn-Al compound, Fe-Zn compound ($\delta_1\;and\;\zeta$ Phase) and pure zinc. It was superior to HGI in coating adhesion. It seems to be due to forming of Fe-Zn-Al compound in interface of matrix and retained porous scale.
