Thermal regeneration means burning-off and cleaning-up the particulate matters piled up in DPF(diesel particulate filter), and it requires both high temperature $(550\~600^{\circ}C)$ and appropriate concentration of oxygen at DPF entrance. However, it is not easy to satisfy such conditions because of the low temperature window of the HSDI(high speed direct injection) diesel engine(approximately $200\~350^{\circ}C$ at cycle). Therefore, this study is focused on the method to raise temperature using the trade-off relation between temperature, oxygen concentration, and the influence of many parameters of common rail injection system including post injection. After performing an optimal mapping of the common rail parameters for regeneration mode, the actual cleaning process during regeneration mode is investigated and evaluated the availability of the regeneration mode mapping through regenerating soot trapped in the DPF.

For the past decade many effort has been delivered to understand noise generation mechanism for the small size engine cooling fan. As a result of that effort, the low noise fan such as the Wave fan was developed. Now the Wave fan becomes the well known low noise engine cooling fan. But in case of the new car development, the system in the new car will be different from previous one. So we need system optimization for every new model. In case of special application, a low speed fan should be developed to match system requirement. In that case, we meet severe engineering requirement by conducting fan system optimization instead of the simple fan scaling. In this paper, I will show you the system optimize process.
In this study the characteristics of E-EGR valve developed by UNICK were analyzed and the feasibility of application to vehicles were evaluated. Smart car(3L/100km, cdi version) and engine which is small-displacement size, 0.8-liter, of diesel passenger car developed from Mercedes-Benz were used for this experiment. It was installed a 3-cylinder turbo-charged light duty diesel engine with an electronic EGR valve. After the analysis and comparison of E-EGR valve performance under test benchs, the estimation of vehicle application was executed through the EGR map and CVS-75 test result measured on the chassis dynamometer.

Nowadays, many people are trying to develop eco-friendly engines such as the electric motor and the air engine because the I.C. engine cause a lot of pollutants. Nevertheless of these effort, there are few evaluation and comparison of these engines to conventionally used I.C. engines. Because of this, it is difficult to determine that the eco-friendly engines are really energy saving engines. In this paper, the efficiency of the air engine is calculated. The air engine does not cause environmental pollution problem because it uses "Compressed air". Due to the air engine operated at a low temperature and spark-free condition, this engine can be used in extreme condition for safety. Despite the many advantages of the air engine, there are few analysis on the air engine because of an air engine is low energy density.

Unlike internal combustion engines, electric cars have little engine sound and very quiet, causing the following problems to occur. First of all, pedestrians are a threat to safety because they can't feel the car approaching. The driver is also unable to recognize how fast his car is driving at a certain speed. To solve these problems, electric cars should be artificially created and reused. This paper examines the problems of the Sampling engine sound currently being used and uses the engine sound to produce a sound engine sound for the solution. The sampling engine sound has some limitations in making natural engine sounds. To overcome this problem, we studied two methods of using software synthesizers. They found subtractive synthsizing and wavetable synthsizing, which compared wavetabe synthsizing with actual engine, sampling and subtractive methods to find the most similar to real engine sound. We found that data usage and production cost are more advantageous than sampling method and subtractive syndication method.
Since the release of mid-term domestic GHG goals until 2020, in 2009, some various GHG reduction policies have been proposed. In case of the transportation sector for the mid-term domestic GHG goals, it targets to reduce about 30% regarding the doemstic economic growth until 2020. A major reduction method in passenger cars considers an electric car. In this study we analyze some various scenarios to compare between internal combustion engine car and electric car using break-even analysis. Through the analysis we suggest a subsidy policy for electric car.

The clutch with torsional damper is installed on a passenger car with manual transmission, which not only transmits the power generated by engine to the transmission but also absorbs the shock and vibration from the engine. The torsional damper in the clutch dissipates the torsional vibration energy and eliminates the resonance in the driveline but high damping in the damper causes the increase of the vibration level which is against the comfort and durability. In this study, a dynamic model for the passenger car driveline with manual transmission was developed to investigate the vibration and the effects of characteristics of the driveline. With the dynamic model, the vibration characteristics of driveline were examined by the mode analysis and driving simulation, and the effects of hysteresis torque and spring constant were investigated. The vehicle tests with prototype torsional dampers were preformed and the test results showed good agreements with the simulation.

Reduction of structure-borne noise of the compartment in a car is an important task in automotive engineering. Transfer path analysis using vibroacoustic reciprocity technique or multiple path decomposition method has generally been used for structure-borne noise path analysis. These methods are useful in solving particular problem but do net quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation of each isolator of a vehicle. To quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation, the vibrational power flow has been used for a simple isolation system or a laboratory based isolation system. It is often difficult to apply the vibrational power flow technique to the complex isolation system like a car. In this paper, a simple equation is derived for calculation of the vibrational power flow of an isolation system with multiple isolators such as a car. It is successfully applied to not only quantifying the relative contributions of eighteen isolators but also reducing structure-borne noise of a passenger car. According to the results, the main contributor of eighteen isolators is the rear roll mount of an engine. The reduced structure-borne noise level is about 5dBA.

This paper is to analyze and study the fire examples in respect of intake and exhaust, alternator tuning and inflow of inflammables on exhaust part in a car. In the first example, the driver diverted the intake and exhaust system for tuning of a car. Stopping a car to rest for moment, the flammable styrofoam scrap go into exhaust pipe that installed with exhaust manifold newly. It certified the fact that catched fire gradually, furthermore enlarged the fire by leaking fuel. In the second example, the driver enlarged the generator performance to divert the audio system in side room., it knew the fact that the electric wiring connected with generator gave the cause of outbreak a fire by overheating. In the third example, the serviceman replaced the engine oil using funnel-shaped, he put the a bottle of plastic pat onto engine cover carelessly. Consequentially, it found the fire occurrence in the engine room. Therefore, the driver never divert the intake and exhaust and generator construction of a car abnormally. Also, repairing and inspecting a car, the serviceman have a care to not occur the fire by inflammables.
