  • Planning for the expansion of production capacity is of vital importance in many applications within the private and public sectors. This paper considers a sequencing expansion problem in which capacity can be added only at discrete points in time. Given the demand forecast of each period, capacity and cost of each expansion project, we are to determine the sequence of expansion necessary to provide sufficient capacity to meet the demand in all periods at minimum cost. This problem is formulated as a pure integer programming and solved by branch and bound method using Lagrangian relaxation. At first, simple sequencing expansion problem is presented, and in the latter part, extension to include precedence between projects is suggested.

  • In a signal control of the railway system, the first objective is to guarantee a safety of the train operation, and the second is to increase a frequency(a capability of the transportation) of the train operation. In order to express the capability of the transportation a terminology what is called a railroad line capacity is employed. The railroad line capacity means a maximum frequency of the train operation in a possible schedule of the one way operation for one day. During the last several years an improvement in the facilities of the train operation (railroad line extension, improvement in the stations, improvement in the signal facilities) has been achieved to increase the railroad line capacity. In this paper the authors deal with the case analysis which try to shorten headway and which has an impartible relation with increasing of the railroad capacity

  • In operation of distribution system, DGs(Distributed Generations) are installed as an alternative of extension and establishment of substations, transmission and distribution lines according to increasing power demand. Optimal capacity and allocation of DGs improve power quality and reliability. This paper proposes a method for determining the optimal number, size and allocation of DGs needed to minimize operation cost of distribution system. Capacity of DGs for economic operation of distribution system can be estimated by the load growth and line capacity during operation planning duration. DG allocations are determined to minimize total cost with failure rate and annual reliability cost of each load point using GA(Genetic Algorithm).

  • Commercial fibers such as two kinds of micro-fiber, flannel, and cotton were analyzed for their nutrient solution absorption capacity to select hydrophilic mat used for the irrigation management by drainage level sensor in perlite bag culture. The selected mat was evaluated in terms of absorption capacity. Cotton had the highest absorption capacity and was revealed to be the most appropriate for the control system.

  • Robust and perceptually-adaptive image watermarking algorithms have mainly targeted gray-scale images either at the modeling or embedding levels despite the widespread availability of color images. Only few of the existing algorithms are specifically designed for color images where color correlation and perception are constructively exploited. In this paper, a new perceptual and high-capacity color image watermarking solution is proposed based on the extension of Tsui et al. algorithm. The $CIEL^*a^*b^*$ space and the spatio-chromatic Fourier transform (SCFT) are combined along with a perceptual model to hide watermarks in color images where the embedding process reconciles between the conflicting requirements of digital watermarking. The perceptual model, based on an emerging color image model, exploits the non-uniform just-noticeable color difference (NUJNCD) thresholds of the $CIEL^*a^*b^*$ space. Also, spread-spectrum techniques and semi-random low-density parity check codes (SR-LDPC) are used to boost the watermark robustness and capacity. Unlike, existing color-based models, the data hiding capacity of our scheme relies on a game-theoretic model where upper bounds for watermark embedding are derived. Finally, the proposed watermarking solution outperforms existing color-based watermarking schemes in terms of robustness to standard image/color attacks, hiding capacity and imperceptibility.

  • Micropiles are widely used for foundation underpinning to enhance bearing capacity and reduce settlement of existing foundation. In this study, the main objective is to evaluate underpinning performance of a newly developed micropile called waveform micropile for foundation underpinning during vertical extension. Finite element method (FEM) was used to evaluate the underpinning performance of waveform micropile in terms of load-settlement response of underpinned foundation and load sharing behavior. For comparison, underpinning effects of three conventional micropiles with different lengths were also discussed in this study. Numerical results of load-settlement response for single pile demonstrated that bearing capacity and axial stiffness of waveform micropiles were higher than those of conventional micropiles because of the effect of shear keys of waveform micropiles. When additional loads 20 %, which is according to design loads of the vertical extension, were applied to the underpinned foundation, load sharing capacity of waveform micropile was 40 % higher than conventional micropile at the same size. The waveform micropile also showed better underpinning performance than the conventional micropile of length 1~1.5 times of waveform micropile.

  • The objective of this study, which applies the multiple-disciplinary approach to the developmental characteristics of children, is to study and develop a class model that can be applied to actual kindergarten classes in rural area. For this purpose, this study proposes teaching and learning methodologies for children based on English children's tales to help make the English education of children more effective and efficient. Based on the findings, the following suggestions should be considered for improving the English-education class model for kindergartners for rural areas: First, various activities based on the multiple-intelligence approach are important methods of children-oriented education advanced by the Sixth Children's Curriculum, helping children grow their independence and creativity. Second, various activities developed by this study on the basis of the multiple-intelligence approach to promote children's reading, listening, speaking, and writing abilities helped children improve their linguistic capacities, improve creativity, and remain motivated, which was reinforced by the differences found between the test group and the control group.

  • Nerine was originated from South Africa and around 30 kinds of species are distributed in worldwide. In present study we have characterized the condition of storage and growing conditions on the bulb propagation of Nerine by the tissue culture. Result indicated that the percentage of decrement, decay and sprouting of bulblets in the tissue culture was high at the higher temperature compare to lower temperature. The optimum conditions for storage and time were 12 weeks at $15^{\circ}C$ which were having 86.4% sprouting rate. The sprouting rate at different temperature and acclimation time, using bulblets in the tissue culture, were optimum at early June when temperature is relatively higher($22^{\circ}C$) that facilitate to breaking the dormancy. Growth characteristics and capacity of photosynthesis of Nerine were better at red and blue mixed lightness.

  • In 2014, The Housing Act amended to allows vertical extension and increases the units of housing (or total floor area) to site. Currently, the feasibility of performing vertical extension is evaluated based on safety diagnosis provisions and manuals with 1st investigation stage on slope, uneven settlement, load-bearing capacity, and durability. However, a need for more reasonable evaluation criteria for the investigation is still required because there had not been any other case study on the diagnosis for the vertical extension, and the engineering basis on evaluation criteria were not suggested. Accordingly, this study is intended to suggest feasible evaluation criteria on the carbonation, chloride ion contents, corrosion of reinforcements, crack and surface deterioration of concrete for durability assessment by codes and standards of domestic and foreign countries. The results of this study are expected to be beneficial for establishing more reasonable durability evaluation criteria, and in turn, more reliable assessment protocol for vertical extension.
