Gate dielectric SiO2 film deposition on poly Silicon using UV-excited ozone gas without heating substrate.

  • We have grown $SiO_2$ film on a polycrystalline Si layer using excited ozone gas, which is produced by ultra-violet light irradiation to ozone gas, without heating substrate. The obtained $SiO_2$ film shows dielectric properties comparable to the device quality films measured at the MIS capacitor configuration.

  • Wind power and photovoltaic(PV) generation systems are the fastest growing sources of renewable energy. The nonlinear devices, such as power electronic converter or inverter, of wind power and PV generation systems are the source of harmonics in power systems. The harmonic-related problems can have significant detrimental effects in the power system, such as capacitor heating, data communication interference, rotating equipment heating, transformer heating, relay misoperation and switchgear failure. There is a greater need for harmonic analysis that can properly maintain the power quality. By measuring harmonics of existing wind power and PV generation systems as harmonics modeling, the studies were made to see the harmonic impact of grid-connected wind power and PV generation systems.

  • In this paper, fully embedded high Dk BTO MIM capacitors have been developed into a multi-layered organic package substrate for low cost RF SOP (System on Package) applications. These embedded MIM capacitors were designed and simulated by using CST 3D EM simulators for finding out optimal geometries and verifying their applicability. The embedded MIM capacitor with a size of $550\;{\times}\;550\;um^2$ has a capacitance of 5.3pF and quality factor of 43 at 1.5 GHz, respectively. The measured performance characteristics were well matched with 3D EM simulated ones. Equivalent circuit parameters of the embedded capacitors were extracted for making a design library.

  • In this paper, a study has been performed for development of dynamic voltage restorer(DVR) system using EDLC (Electric Double Layer Capacitor) to solve voltage sags which are considered the dominant disturbances affecting power quality. With the prolific use of semiconductor devices in electrical equipment, modern-day loads are becoming increasingly sensitive to the sags and the disturbances prove to be costly to industries. As a technology-driven custom power installation, the Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is recognized to be most effective equipment that can be used to counter the voltage sag problem. Hence, this paper proposes the high-performance optimal design of On-Line type DVR system which can efficiently compensate the instantaneous voltage sag and instantaneous interruption of the utility voltage source.

  • In this paper, we investigated SiNx film as a buffer layer of TFT-FRAM. Buffer layers were prepared by two step process of a $N_2$ plasma treatment and subsequent $SiN_x$ deposition. By employing $N_2$ plasma treatment, interface traps such as mobile charges and injected charges were removed, hysteresis of current-voltage curve disappeared. After $N_2$ plasma treatment, a leakage current was decreased about 2 orders. From these results, it is possible to perform the plasma treating process to make a good quality buffer layer of MFIS-FET or capacitor as an application of non-volatile memory.

  • 본 논문에서는 고전압 커패시터 충전용 3상 LCC 공진형 컨버터를 설계하고 제작하였다. 고전압 커패시터 충전시간과 충전전압간에 선형성을 확보하기 위하여 컨버터는 충전 전 구간에서 정전류원으로 동작하도록 설계되었다. 공진탱크 설계를 위해서 FHA(Fundamental Harmonic Analysis) 기법을 이용하여 첨예도(Q; Quality factor)와 기저 주파수 변동에 따른 입출력 전류이득특성을 도출하였고 이를 바탕으로 28.8kJ/s의 충전속도를 가지며 최대 충전전압은 10kV 인 3상 LCC 공진형 컨버터를 제작하였다. 제작된 컨버터는 10kV, 600kJ 규격의 12mF 고전압 커패시터를 이용한 충전 실험을 통해 설계의 타당성을 확인하였다.

An Efficient Control Strategy Based Multi Converter UPQC using with Fuzzy Logic Controller for Power Quality Problems

  • A custom power device provides an integrated solution to the present problems that are faced by the utilities and power distribution. In this paper, a new controller is designed which is connected to a multiconverter unified power quality conditioner (MC-UPQC) for improving the power quality issues adopted modified synchronous reference frame (MSRF) theory with Fuzzy logic control (FLC) technique. This newly designed controller is connected to a source in order to compensate voltage and current in two feeders. The expanded concept of UPQC is multi converter-UPQC; this system has a two-series voltage source inverter and one shunt voltage source inverter connected back to back. This configuration will helps mitigate any type of voltage / current fluctuations and power factor correction in power distribution network to improve power quality issues. In the proposed system the power can be conveyed from one feeder to another in order to mitigate the voltage sag, swell, interruption and transient response of the system. The control strategies of multi converter- UPQC are designed based on the modified synchronous reference frame theory with fuzzy logic controller. The fast dynamics response of dc link capacitor is achieved with the help of Fuzzy logic controller. Different types of fault conditions are taken and simulated for the analysis and the results are compared with the conventional method. The relevant simulation and compensation performance analysis of the proposed multi converter-UPQC with fuzzy logic controller is performed.

A Novel Control Strategy of Three-phase, Four-wire UPQC for Power Quality Improvement

  • The current paper presents a novel control strategy of a three-phase, four-wire Unified Power Quality (UPQC) to improve power quality. The UPQC is realized by the integration of series and shunt active power filters (APF) sharing a common dc bus capacitor. The realization of shunt APF is carried out using a three-phase, four-leg Voltage Source Inverter (VSI), and the series APF is realized using a three-phase, three-leg VSI. To extract the fundamental source voltages as reference signals for series APF, a zero-crossing detector and sample-and-hold circuits are used. For the control of shunt APF, a simple scheme based on the real component of fundamental load current (I $Cos{\Phi}$) with reduced numbers of current sensors is applied. The performance of the applied control algorithm is evaluated in terms of power-factor correction, source neutral current mitigation, load balancing, and mitigation of voltage and current harmonics in a three-phase, four-wire distribution system for different combinations of linear and non-linear loads. The reference signals and sensed signals are used in a hysteresis controller to generate switching signals for shunt and series APFs. In this proposed UPQC control scheme, the current/voltage control is applied to the fundamental supply currents/voltages instead of fast-changing APF currents/voltages, thus reducing the computational delay and the required sensors. MATLAB/Simulink-based simulations that support the functionality of the UPQC are obtained.

  • 슈퍼커패시터는 일반 커패시터(축전지, 콘덴서)에 비해 정전용량이 매우 큰 커패시터로 전기화학 커패시터 혹은 울트라 커패시터(ultracapacitor) 라고도 부르는데, 화학반응을 이용하는 배터리와 달리 전극과 전해질 계면의 단순한 이온 이동이나 표면화학반응에 의한 충전현상을 이용한다. 짧은 충전시간(~ 30초), 우수한 출력특성, 반영구적 수명(~ 100,000 cycle), 낮은 유지비용, 빠른 응답특성, 높은 안정성 등을 특징으로 하여, 백업용 전원, 무정전전원장치, 수송 기계 및 스마트 그리드의 고출력 보조 전원 등 급속 충방전이 필요한 전자기기 및 고출력이 요구되는 산업분야에서 활용되고 있다. 태양광과 풍력 같은 불규칙적인 전력원을 활용하는 발전에서 2차 배터리와 함께 에너지저장장치로 구성되어 상대적으로 느린 배터리의 충·방전 특성을 보상하고 배터리 수명연장에 기여하며 시스템의 전체 전력 품질을 향상시킬 수 있다. 본 고에서는 이처럼 에너지저장장치로 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있는 슈퍼커패시터에 대해, 전극 재료에 따른 에너지 저장 원리 및 메커니즘, 분류를 간략하게 살펴보고, 국내외 제품 연구, 특허, 시장 및 제품 현황을 제시하여 활용성을 검토하고 향후 전망을 살펴보았다. 에너지 저장 소자로 슈퍼커패시터가 관련 산업 수요에 대응하기 위해서는, 고전압 모듈 기술, 고효율 충전, 안전성, 추가적인 성능개선 및 비용경쟁력 등 아직까지 해결해야 할 과제들이 많다.

  • Nowadays, $CO_2$ lasers are used widely in many applications such as materials fabrication, communications, remote sensing and military purpose etc. Especially, $CO_2$ lasers are in the spotlight at surface handling and heat processing. It is important to control the laser output power and beam Quality in those fields. And those are studied the important parameters deciding the fluctuation of laser beam are smoothing capacitor, frequency and the characteristics of laser resonator. But the study of plasma parameters of $CO_2$ lasers are little. So we detect the $CO_2$ laser from emitted $CO_2$ laser discharge plasma using a non-contact photo tansistor sensor and Low pass filter.
