The effect of discharge have been investigated for condition of spark in a multiple spark ignition engine, as the spark duration, capacitive and inductive discharge energy were calculated for condition of spark by ignition wave and energy formula. The useful portion of spark discharge is divided into capacitance portion and inductance portion. It was found that capacitive discharge energy and spark duration were increased according to increasing number of spark, and inductive discharge energy was increased according to increasing spark interval. Therefore engine torque was increase and lean misfire limit was extended comparing with the standard ignition system. It found that spark energy was discharged within ignition delay period availability acted on the formation and growth of flame kernel, and total spark energy was increased according to increasing number of spark times, but discharged spark energy after ignition delay became unavailable energy. And the capacitive discharge energy has the dominant effect for stoichiomeric or not very rich air-fuel mixture but inductive discharge energy has the dominant effect for lean air-fuel mixture.
Harmful elements from the exhaust gases are caused by incomplete combustion of mixture inside the engine cylinder and this abnormal combustion like misfire or partial burning is the direct cause of the air pollution and engine performance degradation. In this study, I obtain the shapes of spark, voltage and current generated when changing the experimental parameters such as grounded electrode shapes, electrode gap and the material of center electrodes. After that, I produce ignition energy by using the voltage and current and classify ignition energy into capacitive discharge energy and inductive discharge energy.

The influence of discharge conditions, including the resistance of the sparking circuit, the shape of the electrodes and the width of the falling dust on the ignitability of lycopodium streams were investigated. Discharge characteristics and the ignition phenomena were also explored. When a 100 ㏀ resistor was connected in series with the sparking circuit, the lowest level of minimum ignition energy (MIE) was attained for lycopodium streams. Simultaneously, the area where flammable gas generated increased and the duration of flammable gas generation decreased. That is, the ignita-bility of lycopodium streams depended strongly on the discharge power and discharge duration. Electrodes with sharp tips gave smaller MIEs than those with round tips in a capacitive-inductive sparking circuit, while shape made no difference in a capacitive-resistive circuit. Streams that were too narrow required a considerable amount of energy for ignition.
To establish measuring method for minimum ignition energy of explosive powders caused by electrostatic discharge, A measuring method(Hartman) using a very small quantity of pine tree testing powder was proposed, and the influence of discharge current limiting resistance connected in series into a capacitive discharge circuit on ignition energies of explosive powders was investigated. As a result the minimum ignition energy was 42.25mJ when discharge current limiting resistance 300 $k\Omega$.
To establish testing method for ignition energy of explosive powders caused by electrostatic discharge, one testing method using a very small quantity of tested powders ( Frima ) was proposed, and the influence of discharge - limiting resistance connected in series into a capacitive discharge circuit on ignition energies of explosive powders was investigated using, as tested powders. As a result the minimum ignition energy was 9 mJ when discharge-limiting resistance was 300 k$\Omega$. The reason for the dependence of ignition energy on discharge-limiting resistance was thought to the difference in the type of electrostatic discharge, such as arc or glow discharge, from the observation of discharging wave forms.

Carbon nanotube (CNT) and alumina ($Al_2O_3$) are synthesized into hybrid composites, and an advanced electrical discharge machining (EDM) system is developed for the machining of hard and conductive materials. CNT nanoparticles are mixed with $Al_2O_3$ powder and the $Al_2O_3$/CNT slurry is sintered by spark plasma. The hardness and the electrical conductivity of the $Al_2O_3$/CNT hybrid composite were investigated. The electrical discharge is controlled by a capacitive ballast circuit. The capacitive ballast circuit is applied to the tungsten carbide and the $Al_2O_3$/CNT hybrid composite. The voltage-current waveforms and scanning electron microscope (SEM) images were measured to analyze the characteristics of the boring process. The developed EDM process can manufacture the ceramic based hybrid composites, thereby expecting the variety of applications.
The power source of an AC-PDP fur sustainer circuit is operated in high-voltage and high frequency switching during the process required to achieve the gas discharge current to generate light in a PDP panel. Since PDP has the characteristics of a pure capacitive load, the displacement current that occurs during charge and discharge generates considerable reactive power. An auxiliary circuitry called Energy Recovery Circuit (ERC) reduces the capacitive displacement current. However, this auxiliary topology also bears high stress in its components. In this paper, a multilevel voltage wave shaping sustainer circuit with auxiliary ERC characteristics for an AC-PDP driver is proposed. A comparative analysis and experimental results are presented.
The cyclic variations can be characterized by the variations in different type of parameters. These parameters may be grouped into four main categories: pressure-related parameters, combustion-related parameters, flame front-related parameters, and exhaust gas-related parameters. One of the resultant effects of the cycle-by-cycle variation in the combustion process, which is the most important with regard to the engine performance characteristics, is the cycle-by-cycle variation in IMEP. This paper uses the repetitive discharge igniter, which can change the ignition energy easily, to study on idle stability in a spark ignition engine. From this device, the 6 number of spark and 0.20 ms spark interval, it is very available for the idle stability.
In this paper we introduce novel electrode structure for high efficiency discharge. We operate discharge tube under the 0.16 torr pure Xe and apply the sinusoidal wave power to the lamp with 60kHz. We measure the electric power dissipation, plasma parameters, and 828 nm IR intensity. From these data we determine the discharge efficiency, IR intensity/watt, EEDF(Electron energy distribution function). As a result we obtain that the novel electrode structure has better performance in efficiency than that of conventional external electrode system. Also we determine the EEDF for each type of electrode structure by Boltzmann stover, EELNDIF code. The result of Boltzmann equation solving show that the noble electrode system has many high energy electrons compared with the conventional system.
Heteroatom phosphorous-doped graphene aerogel (PGA) with high surface area is successfully synthesized via hydrothermal method for high power and energy supercapacitors, including the advantage of three dimensional internetwork and constitutive graphene skeletons. The morphology of PGA was investigated by the scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope. The chemical structure and circumstances were confirmed by Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the phosphorus is successfully incorporated with the graphene sheets. As evidenced by electrochemical measurements, cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge discharge, the hierarchically PGA has an unprecedented high capacitance, which contributes to the excellent high-rate performance of this material for supercapacitor application.
