  • This study is to organize the manual for the safety accidents in campsite. For this, analyzing the types of safety accidents and reviewing the regulations of campsite. Through theoretical considerations, the problem was diagnosed and the elements of improvement were presented. Eventually, part of the Responsive and Preventative Behavior manuals were developed to organize 'Preparation Behavior Manual'. Especially, examples of safety accident prevention behavior manual were divided into: 1st, suffocation, 2nd, traffic accident, 3rd, fire, 4th, and electrical accident. "S.A.F.E.", An example, was created with the accident specific initials that were more frequently caused. Furthermore, it was emphasized that it is necessary to process of understood by the user. Subsequent studies recommended the study of cases, improvement of safety management indicators, and the specialization of campground manager and safety guard.

  • In order to manage forest recreation resources effectively, it is necessary to establish objective and quantifiable evaluative standards. They can be used to evaluate the present management conditions of recreation resources and to monitor the conditions continuously on the basis of the established evaluative standards. Normative approach is one of alternatives to help establish evaluative standards. Researchers and forest managers have been interested in the approach, and its usefulness in managing recreation resources has been emphasized. This paper evaluated the present conditions of the campgrounds on the basis of users' normative evaluative standards using the data collected by on-site survey at two campgrounds (Baemsagol Campground and Second Campground) in Chiri-Mountain National Park in 1.993. This paper established evaluative standards for eight impact indicators using normative approach, and it evaluated the present management conditions of the campgrounds on the basis of them. The present management conditions for noise time and littering behavior were worse than the evaluative standards at Baemsagol and Second Campground. Present conditions for inconsiderate behavior, number of tents, number of campers, and waiting time for using water supply were worse than the evaluative standards only at Baemsagol Campground. The present management conditions for distance between tents and waiting time for using restroom were better than the evaluative standards at both campgrounds. This study introduced how normative approach can be used to establish evaluative standards, and based on the study result, some management directions were suggested.

  • This study aims to propose the future plan and research management of a beach and the relation between spatial structure of a village and layout of the beach focusing on Gimnyeong beach among the 12 general beaches in Jejudo. The results are as followings: First, Gimnyeong beach had the relation to primary industries of residents in the village in times past and was the space for everyday lives of residents. However, at present it has the relation to tertiary industries and is more important in community activities. Second, the entry part and the sandy beach of Gimnyeong beach were crucial in location and function in times past but total size of the beach has expanded for campground nowadays. Therefore, it is necessary to change the location of entry part to center part of the beach. In addition, convenient and safe facilities are need to be built more to corresponding to expanding area of the beach. Finally, in order to maintain clean sea, residents in the Gimnyeong have agreed to not make sea farms in the vicinity of Gimnyeong Beach which pollute the sea. Their roles have influenced on positive effect to community of the village, management of the beach, and maintenance of clean sea.

  • The leisure life pattern of people is changing to a familial and enthusiastic way that eventually develops the camping culture. Thus, the number of campers and the size of camping market have been dramatically increased due to significant expansion of camping people. However, many camp grounds and facilities are operating without a proper registration by government rules and regulations. In addition, many of electronic and gas equipment and tools are not used in a safe way and in a safety regulatory boundary. Therefore, campers at the camping ground is situated in a fire and safety hazard. In addition, there is limitation in rules and regulations associated with camping ground safety and fire. This study analyzed the fire and hazard guidelines and rules regulations of developed countries of campground and compared them to the current situation in South Korea. Therefore, this study is to develop a safety and fire hazard guidelines and rules and regulations related to camp ground operation, gas and electronic equipment operation and management. The study will eventually reduce the future fire and safety incidents in a campground in South Korea.

  • This paper examined the effects of users' expectations, norms and recreation motives on perceived conflict in a recreation setting. The study used data collected at Second Campground in Chirisan National Park, Korea, during the summer of 1994. Of the total 280 questionnaires distributed, 253 questionnaires(90.4%) were usable. About 82% of the respondents perceived conflict by others' late-night-singing. This study supported the notion that perceived conflict occurs when norms, expectations, and recreation motives are interfered with by others' incompatible behaviors. Solitude/nature motive factor was a better predictor of perceived conflict than norm-interference or expectation-interference. However, the relative predictability of each variable on perceived conflict could be various depending on different kinds of recreation motives, specific ways of measuring norms, expectations and conflict. Management implications were discussed.

  • Use impacts to trail and campground deteriorations and their changes of natural environment were studied in Mt. Kaya National Park in 1989. The entire width, bare width and maximum depth of trail as the trail condition were significantly greater on the more heavily used trail. Deteriorations of trail which were surveyed at the total of 51 were significantly different from those of non-deteriorated points. The changes of soil and vegetation of trailsides were not found at a uniform tendency but could be more clearly grouped by the types of user's disturbance, and use impact on trailside had reached 15m inside of forest. Percentage of area for Class 5 in campsite was about 36% and about 69% of campsite area was more severe than Class 3. Recreational activities retarded the diameter growth of trees in campsite and accelerated the different composition of species. Soil and vegetative factors adapted to understand the difference of use amount and the realm of use impact could be sorted. The realm influenced by user's disturbance was about 50m from the core of campsite. Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Rhus trichocarpa, Symplocos chinensis for. pilosa and Stephanandra incisa were considered as the tolerant species to user's impact.

  • This study examined the factors by which people choose auto-camping as their primary leisure activity after conducting a questionnaire survey of the visitors to the Chiaksan national park Guryong auto-campground. The majority of the visitors were employed (60%) in their 30s and 40s (85%) with relatively high education (88% of which had bachelor's degree or higher) and income levels (87% of which had family income greater than KRW30 million). Most visitors were family group visitors (82%), and for many visitors, auto-camping appeared to be their primary leisure activity as 24% of the respondents said that they visited auto-campground more than 10 times a year. Only 18% of the visitors had auto-camped for longer than 5 years, indicating that auto-camping is a relatively new leisure activity that has become popular in recent times. Factor analysis with 19 items that measured the degree of agreement on the relative advantages of auto-camping extracted four latent factors that affected the selection of auto-camping as a leisure activity: factor 1 (refreshment through contact with nature), factor 2 (novelty and a sense of accomplishment), factor 3 (convenience), and factor 4 (entertainment). Results of regression analysis that examined the effects of the four extracted factors on the visitors' level of satisfaction on auto-camping (measured by the number of visits to auto-campgrounds per year) indicated that 'refreshment through contact with nature' was the most critical factor when deciding to select auto-camping as their leisure activity. 'Novelty and a sense of accomplishment' and 'convenience' were also statistically significant -but to a lesser degree, whereas 'entertainment' did not statistically significantly affect the visitors' decision. These results suggest that, for designing and managing auto-campgrounds, it is more important to preserve the surrounding nature than to provide more facilities for campers' convenience and entertainment.

  • Trail and campground deteriorations and their environmental changes of soil and vegetation were studied in Guryong district of Mt. Chiak National Park in 1988. The Widths of both the entire trail and the bare portion as the trail condition were significantly greater on the more heavily used trail. and regressions showed the significant positive relationship between slope along the trail and maximum depth of the trail($R^2$=0.35). Deterioration types of trail which had higher frequency for a total of 63 observations were rock exposure(48%), trail deepening(29%) and root exposure(27%) in the high order. And occurence of trail deterioration was considerably influenced by slope along the trail Ecological changes of soil and vegetation of trailsides were not found at a uniform tendency but could be grouped, by the types of user's disturbance. On campsites. tree damage types and their frequencies were basic as a means of which grasp the limits of user's impact. The area with damaged trees on campsite in pine forest were larger than that in mixed forest and the frequency by damage type of trees varied according to the distance from the core of campsite and to the crown layer. Water content, pH and hardness of soil. coverage of lower trees, species and individuals per 100$m^2$, basal areas of upper and middle layer of trees had significant relationship with the distance from campsite to forest. The range influenced by user's disturbance was more than 70-80m, md Staphylea bumalda, Morns bombycis, Stephanandra incisa and Securinega suffruticosa were considered as tolerant species to user's impact.

  • This study was conducted to find out whether persuasive messages with different contents of information (aesthetic, aesthetic+ecological, aesthetic+ecological+economic, aesthetic+ecological+economic +educational) about the consequences of littering influence users' awareness of the consequences of littering, personal norms and littering behaviors in a recreation setting based on the Schwartz's norm activation theory. Data were collected at the Second Campground in the northern managerial district of Chirisan National Park. Of the total 177 questionnaires distributed, 144(85%) were used for the study. In addition to that, in order to find out whether personal norms on littering were changed from 1994 to 1996, data collected at the same campground in 1994 were also partly used. Based on the result of the study, persuasive messages didn't directly affect the users' level of the awareness of the consequences(AC) of littering, personal norms, and littering behavior. People whose awareness of the consequences of littering are higher, however, tended to have stronger personal norms about littering. And also, people whose awareness of the consequences of littering are higher or people whose personal norms are stronger appeared to litter fewer than people whose awareness of the consequences or the strength of personal norms are lower. The extent of personal norms about littering was not changed through 1994 to 1996. The results were discussed and some management alternatives were suggested.

  • Users' norms, expectations and recreation motives are major influential factors on perceived conflict in recreation settings. This study was conducted to examine how information affects users' norms and expectations, and subsequently, the extent of perceived conflict. Data was collected at the Second Campground in Chirisan National Park in 1994. Of two hundred eighty on-site survey questionnaires distributed, 253(90.4%) were used for analysis. According to the result of the study, information changed users' normative standards in accord with the content of information and increased the extent of norm convergence. However, it did not change users' expectations and didn't reduce the degree of perceived canflict. The possible reasons were discussed. Some directions for more effective use of information to reduce perceived conflict were also suggested.
