This paper represents the design of a real-time image preprocessing system. The preprocessing system performs hardware-wise mask operations and thresholding operations at the speed of camera output single rate. The preprocessing system consists of the preprocessing board and the main processing board. The preprocessing board includes preprocessing unit that includes a $5\times5$ mask processor and LUT, and can perform mask and threshold operations in real-time. To achieve high-resolution image input data($20485\timesn$), the preprocessing board has a linescan camera interface. The main processing board includes the image processor unit and main processor unit. The image processor unit is equipped with TI's TMS320C32 DSP and can perform image processing algorithms at high speed. The main processor unit controls the operation of total system. The proposed system is faster than the conventional CPU based system.
MSC(Multispectral Camera), which will be a unique payload on KOMPSAT-II, is designed to collect panchromatic and multi-spectral imagery with a ground sample distance of 1m and a swath width of 15km at 685km altitude in sun-synchronous orbit. The instrument is designed to have an orbit operation duty cycle of 20% over the mission life time of 3 years. MSC electronics consists of three main subsystems; PMU(Payload Management Unit), CEU(Camera Electronics Unit) and PDTS(Payload Data Transmission Subsystem). PMU performs all the interface between spacecraft and MSC, and manages all the other subsystems by sending commands to them and receiving telemetry from them with software protocol through RS-422 interface. CEU controls FPA(Focal Plane Assembly) which contains TDI(Timc Delay Integration) CCD(Charge Coupled Device) and its clock drivers. PMU provides a Master Clock to synchronize panchromatic and multispectral camera. PDTS performs compression, storage and encryption of image data and transmits them to the ground station through x-band.
This paper describes the interface designs of Optical-Camera Electronic unit with a DFPA(Detector Focal Plane Assembly) and IDHU(Image Data Handling Unit) which meet the top-level requirement of a satellite system. Especially, the designs on the image format and timing of the Header information for the correct reconstruction of the image in the Groundstation are explained in detail.
We propose a lens-drive unit composed of an ionic polymer-metal composite (IPMC) for an auto-focus compact camera module in cellular phones to solve the power consumption problem of voice coil motors which are widely used in commercial products. In this research, an IPMC incorporated into a lens-drive unit is designed to implement a large displacement in low-power consumption by using an anisotropic plasma treatment. Experimental results show that a camera module containing IPMCs can control and maintain the position of the lens by using proportional integral derivative control with a photo-reflective position sensor despite the non-linear actuation behavior of IPMCs. We demonstrate that the fabrication and commercialization of a lens actuator that has a large displacement and low power consumption using IPMCs is possible in the near future.
The performance of the payload Electro-Optical System (EOS) in satellite system is affected by various factors, such as optics design, camera electronics design, and the characteristics of the CCD (Charge Coupled Device) used, etc. Of these factors, the camera electronics design is somewhat unique in that its operational parameters can be adjusted even after the satellite launch. In this paper, the effect of video gain on the non-uniformity correction performance is addressed. And a new optimal non-uniformity correction scheme is proposed and analyzed using the data from real camera electronics unit based on a TDI (Time Delayed Integration) type of CCD. The test results show that the performance of the conventional non-uniformity correction scheme is affected significantly when the video gain is added. On the other hand, in our proposed scheme, the performance is not dependent on the video gain. The insensitivity of the non-uniformity performance on the video-gain is mainly due to the fact that the correction is performed after the dark signal is subtracted from system response.

The Electro-optical camera subsystem as a payload of a satellite system consists of OM (optical module) and CEU(camera electronics unit), and most performances of the camera subsystem depend a lot on the CEU in which TDI CCDs(Time Delayed Integration Charge Coupled Device) take the main role of imaging by converting the light intensity into measurable voltage signal. Therefore it is required to specify and design the CEU very carefully at the early stage of development with overall specifications, design considerations, calibration definition, test methods for key performance parameters. This paper describes the overview of CEU development. It lists key requirement characteristics of CEU hardware and design considerations. It also describes what kinds of calibration are required for the CEU and defines the test and evaluation conditions in verifying requirement specifications of the CEU, which are used during acceptance test, considering the fact that CEU performance results change a lot depending on test and evaluation conditions such as operational line rate, TDI level, and light intensity level, so on.
As the need of automatized system has been increased recently together with the development of industrial and military technologies, the adaptive real-time target detection technologies that can be embedded on vehicles, planes, ships, robots and so on, are hgihly demanded. Accordingly, this paper proposes a novel approach to detect and segment the moving targets using the binary phase extraction joint transform correlator (BPEJTC), the advanced image subtraction filter and convex hull processing. The BPEJTC which was used as a target detection unit mainly for target tracking compensating the camera movement. The target region has been detected by processing the successful three frames using the advanced image subtraction filter, and has become more accurate by applying the developed convex hull filter. As shown by some experimental results, it is expected that the proposed approaches for compensation of the camera movement and segmentationof of target region, can be used for th emissile guiddance, aero surveillance, automatic inspectin system as well as the target detection unit of automatic target recognition system that request adaptive real-time processing.
The glass used for Mobile Camera Window is required to have high strength. Cell type manufacturing by means of CNC is widely used for camera window. Individual loading and unloading is needed for each process, such as painting and PVD, in cell type manufacturing. The purpose of this study is to search the enhanced manufacturing process with sheet type throughout bulk unit production in painting and PVD. This study includes sheet type manufacturing processes such as laser cutting, wet etching, 2nd tempering, printing, and AF/AR coating.
