  • In this paper, compared to the RT algorithm that constitutes CT images, the TPSM algorithm available in the conical CB-CT system was applied to enable 3D CT image configuration faster than the existing RT, and the image speeds of the two algorithms were compared and analyzed. To this end, the TPSM algorithm available in the conical CB-CT system was applied to enable real-time processing in 3D CT image composition. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the cross-sectional image constructed using TPSM decreases the quality of the image slightly by empty pixels as the distance from the center point increases, but in the case of TPSM rotation-based methods, the image composition speed is far superior to that of the RT algorithm.

  • This study was performed using Somatom Definition Flash (Siemens, Enlarge, Germany) and GE 64-MDCT (Discovery 750 HD, GE HEALTHCARE, Milwaukee, USA.) using high-density medical materials that (are indispensable to?) computed tomography. We analyzed quantitatively the rate of change of the CT number of the CT reconstruction images by means of the IMAR and MAR algorithms using the phantom images acquired after scanning and previously captured raw data images. As a result, it was shown that the IMAR and MAR algorithms provided if ferent phantom images in the case of all medical high-density materials (p <0.05). The black streak artifacts were analyzed using the MAR and IMAR algorithms to determine if they corresponded to stainless steel materials (p>0.05). Also, it was found that the application of the IMAR algorithm affects the attenuation deviation, because there is a change in the image CT number compared to that before. The results suggest that, in the future, after the implant procedure, it would be useful to observe the surgical site and surrounding tissues during follow-up CT scans.

  • The aim of this study wasto conduct a quantitative analysis of CT image quality according to an algorithm designed to reduce metal artifacts induced by metal components. Ten baseline images were obtained with the standard filtered back-projection algorithm using spectral detector-based CT and CT ACR 464 phantom, and ten images were also obtained on the identical phantom with the standard filtered back-projection algorithm after inducing metal artifacts. After applying the to raw data from images with metal artifacts, ten additional images for each were obtained by applying the virtual monoenergetic algorithm. Regions of interest were set for polyethylene, bone, acrylic, air, and water located in the CT ACR 464 phantom module 1 to conduct compare the Hounsfield units for each algorithm. The algorithms were individually analyzed using root mean square error, mean absolute error, signal-to-noise ratio, peak signal-to-noise ratio, and structural similarity index to assess the overall image quality. When the Hounsfield units of each algorithm were compared, a significant difference was found between the images with different algorithms (p < .05), and large changes were observed in images using the virtual monoenergetic algorithm in all regions of interest except acrylic. Image quality analysis indices revealed that images with the metal artifact reduction algorithm had the highest resolution, but the structural similarity index was highest for images with the metal artifact reduction algorithm followed by an additional virtual monoenergetic algorithm. In terms of CT images, the metal artifact reduction algorithm was shown to be more effective than the monoenergetic algorithm at reducing metal artifacts, but to obtain quality CT images, it will be important to ascertain the advantages and differences in image qualities of the algorithms, and to apply them effectively.

  • Temporal bone CT, which is a high-resolution CT, uses a high tube voltage and a thin section thickness, so the scan dose is higher than that of adjacent areas. Accordingly, we applied changes to the reconstruction algorithm among the test conditions to find an algorithm with excellent sensitivity to lesions while reducing the test dose, and investigated its significance and the possibility of providing basic clinical data. As a result, when the tube voltage was lowered to 100 kVp and applied, the dose was reduced by about 35.6%, and when the definition algorithm was applied to the raw data acquired at 100 kVp, the SNR and CNR were excellent, and a statistically significant difference was shown when compared to other algorithms(p<0.05). And as a result of comparing structural similarity, the SSIM index was analyzed as 0.776, 0.813, and 0.741 for each ROI. Therefore, we believe that applying algorithm changes to temporal bone CT scans can partially reduce the dose generated from CT scans and are very meaningful in terms of basic clinical data.

  • Iterative reconstruction of CT takes a long time because projection and back-projection are alternatively repeated until taking a good image. To reduce the reconstruction time, we need a fast algorithm for calculating the projection which is a time-consuming step. In this paper, we proposed a new algorithm to calculate the line integral and the algorithm is approximately 10% faster than the well-known Siddon method (Jacobs version) and has a good image quality. Although the algorithm has been investigated for the case of parallel beams, it can be extended to the case of fan and cone beam geometries in the future.

  • This study attempted to determine the optimal algorithm after quantitatively analyzing noise, SNR, and CNR measurements by reconstructing four algorithms (Standard, Soft, Bone, and Detail) from head and neck CT images of patients who underwent implant surgery. As an analysis method, pixel values were calculated through the region of interest in the reconstructed image using the Image J program. For noise, SNR, and CNR, the region of interest was measured at the location of the pharynx, masseter muscle, and parotid gland in the image, and the mean and SD values were obtained. The values of SNR and CNR were calculated based on the given formula. As a result, the standard algorithm showed the lowest noise and the highest SNR. CNR was highest in the Soft algorithm, but showed no significant difference from the Standard algorithm. Therefore, it is believed that the Standard algorithm is the optimal algorithm for examining patients wearing intraoral implants in head and neck CT examinations. We hope that the data from this study will be used as basic data for image evaluation in head and neck CT examinations, and that the quality of images will be further improved through various algorithm changes. It is believed that this will be an opportunity to do so.

  • In this study, we introduce robust face recognition system with illumination variation realized with the aid of CT preprocessing method. As preprocessing algorithm, Census Transform(CT) algorithm is used to extract locally facial features under unilluminated condition. The dimension reduction of the preprocessed data is carried out by using $(2D)^2$PCA which is the extended type of PCA. Feature data extracted through dimension algorithm is used as the inputs of proposed radial basis function neural networks. The hidden layer of the radial basis function neural networks(RBFNN) is built up by fuzzy c-means(FCM) clustering algorithm and the connection weights of the networks are described as the coefficients of linear polynomial function. The essential design parameters (including the number of inputs and fuzzification coefficient) of the proposed networks are optimized by means of artificial bee colony(ABC) algorithm. This study is experimented with both Yale Face database B and CMU PIE database to evaluate the performance of the proposed system.
