  • An implantable CPW fed monopole antenna embedded into human tissue is proposed for ISM band biomedical applications. The proposed antenna is made compatible for implantation by embedding it in an alumina ceramic substrate (${\Box}_r=9.8$ and thickness=0.65 mm). The proposed antenna covers the ISM band of 2.45 GHz. The radiation parameters, such as return loss, E-Plane, H-Plane, are measured and analyzed, using the method of moments. The proposed antenna has substantial merits over other implanted antennas, like low profile, miniaturization, lower return loss, and better impedance matching and high gain.

  • In this paper, the use of a dual composite right/left-handed coplanar waveguide (CPW) transmission line is proposed for the design of a band rejection filter. The notch property of the filter is achieved by combining the convex signal line with the shorted concave meander line, and the equivalent circuit model is extracted from the geometry of the unit cell for organizing the band rejection property. Then the equivalent parameters of the unit cell are analyzed to identify those behaviors. And the dispersion characteristics and energy distributions are simulated. In the end, the band rejection filter is manufactured by cascading two proposed unit cells. We show that the measurement result for the resonant frequency demonstrates good agreement with the simulation result and the band rejection filter provides a rejection performance of 17.5 dB at the stopband frequency ranging from 869 MHz to 894 MHz.

  • A novel implantable CPW fed Apollian shaped antenna embedded into human tissue is proposed for ISM band biomedical applications. The proposed antenna is made compatible for implantation by embedding it in an alumina ceramic substrate(εr=9.8 and thickness= 0.65 mm). The proposed antenna covers the ISM band of 2.45 GHz. The radiation parameters such as return loss, xy-plane, xz-plane, and yz-plane etc., are measured and analyzed using the agilent vector network analyzer. The proposed antenna has substantial advantages, including low profile, miniaturization ability, lower return loss, better impedance matching, and high gain over conventional implanted antennas.

  • We employ the SOR method to analyze CPW electrodes of Ti:$LiNbO_3$ Mach-Zehnder traveling-wave optical modulator in the tapered region of an optical modulator. In the tapered region of the modulator, we design the electrodes satisfying $Z_c=50{\Omega}$. In the modulation region, we find two find sets of design parameters. One set is for $Z_c=50{\Omega}$, $n_{eff}=2.26$ and the another is for $n_{eff}=2.2$, $Z_c=47.7{\Omega}$.

  • This paper describes a compact printed helical resonator and its application to a microwave oscillator circuit implemented in coplanar waveguide(CPW) technology. The high Q-factor and spurious-free characteristic of the resonator contribute to the phase noise reduction and the harmonic suppression of the resulting oscillator circuit, respectively. The designed resonator resonating at the frequency of 5.5 GHz showed a loaded Q of 180 in a chip area of only 40 % of the corresponding miniaturized hairpin resonator without any spurious resonances. The fully planar oscillator incorporated with this resonator showed additional phase noise reduction of 10.5 dB at 1 MHz offset and a second harmonic suppression enhancement of 6 dB when compared to those of a conventional CPW oscillator without the planar helical resonator(PHR) structure.

  • In this paper, we studied a design method for a quasi-Yagi antenna operating over a broad bandwidth covering the UHF RFID(902-928 MHz) and GNSS(1,164-1.605 MHz). The proposed antenna is composed of three elements(dipole, reflector, and director) and fed by a coplanar waveguide. To reduce its size, a balun is integrated inside the antenna, and the ends of both the dipole and reflector are bent. Broadband impedance matching was obtained by placing the director near to the dipole and loading a chip capacitor inside the antenna. The antenna, designed through simulations, was fabricated on an FR4 substrate with 0.8 mm thickness. The experiment results for the antenna characteristics agree very well with the simulation.

  • This paper proposes a new symmetrical bandpass filter based on capacitive loading with a coplanar waveguide (CPW) structure. The filter was numerically designed at the operating frequency around 2 ㎓ by using IE3D software package. The characteristics of the proposed filter were then measured which the results were in good agreement with simulation. The passband insertion loss was considerably low (~3 ㏈) and the return loss was high (greater than 10 ㏈). The size of the proposed filter was also decreased approximately 50% when comparing with the fitters using conventional transmission lines.

  • The characteristics of traveling-wave electrodes for high-frequency electroptic integrated devices are described from the view point of improvement of phase-matching based on the conformal mapping method. Specific calculations of the characteristic impedance, effective microwave index, and eletrode loss for asymmetric coplanar strip(ACPS) and coplanar waveguide(CPW) electrode structures are presented as a function of the geometric electrode parameters including the electrode thickness and buffer layer thickness. 5-10(x10S0-6Tm) thick Au-ACPS electrodes were successfully fabricated by electroplating and ECR etcher. The improvement of modulation bandwidth can be theoretically observed from the combination of electrode and buffer layer thickness.

  • To analyze the effects of the air-bridge parasitic capacitances on the performance of coplanar waveguide pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistors (CPW PHEMTs), the gate-to-air-bridge ( $C_{ag}$ ) and the drain-to air-bridge ( $C_{ad}$ ) capacitances were taken into account plus the conventional pinched-off cold. FET circuit model. To examine the effects of the parasitic capacitances due to the air-bridges, a variety routing schemes for the air-bridge interconnection were adopted for fabricating the 0.1-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ $\Gamma$-gate length CPW HEMT's. According to air-bridge schemes, the $S_{21}$ gain is affected considerably. From the results of the fabricated CPW PHEMT, the $C_{ag}$ and $C_{ad}$ is one of the important factor of decreasing the gain of HEMTs.

  • An optical modulator with CPW(coplanar waveguide) electode on Ti:LiNbO$_{3}$ optical waveguide wasfabricated and characterized. The electrical-optical bandwidth measurement showed an optical response of -3dBat 10 GHzand S$_{11}$ lessthan -10dB upto 20GHz. The typeical specifications are : 5.6V of driving voltage, 4.2dB of insertion loss and 30dB of on/off extinction. The eye pattern proved that the optical meduator, fabricated in this work, has properties good enough for application.
