Designed and Performance Analysis of High Efficiency Concentrated Photovoltaic System using III-V Compound Semiconductor (III-V 화합물 반도체를 이용한 고효율 집광형 태양광 발전시스템 설계 및 성능분석)

  • For photovoltaic power generation need certainly decreasing module's price and increasing promote efficiency technology. Almost of solar panel is on the decrease energy efficiency since 2,000. like silicone(Si) solar panel, thin film solar panel and etc. Silicone(Si) solar panel was best efficiency in 1999. It's 24%. But after that time, It didn't pass limit of energy efficiency. That's why, nowadays being issued that using III-V compound semiconductor to high efficiency of concentrating photovoltaic system for making an alternative proposal. In Korea, making researches in allied technology with III-V compound semiconductor solar panel, condenser technology, and solar tracker. but feasibility study for concentrating photovoltaic power generation hasn't progressed yet. This thesis made a plan about CPV(Concentrating Photovoltaic)system and CPV has a higher energy efficiency than PV(Photovoltaic)system in fine climate conditions from comparing CPV with using silicone(Si) solar panel to PV's efficiency test result.

  • Next generation concentrating photovoltaic technologies could have a large-scale impact on world electricity production once they will become economically attractive and grid parity will be reached. Multi-junction solar cells will be characterised by a high value of the cell economical performance index if the cells were able to operate at high concentration level. Concentrating the sunlight by optical devices like lenses or mirrors reduces the area of expensive solar cells or modules, and, moreover, increases their efficiency. Accurate and reliable tracking is an important issue to maintain high the CPV system output power. Further, for high concentration CPV systems, the actual tracker cost is about 20% of the total CPV system cost. In this paper high-concentration is defined as systems using concentration ratios well above 100 times the one sun intensity and trackerlss CPV system studied. Using sphericalness lens and parallel MJ cell connection method were suggested and achieved experiment on a clear day in summer. Development of these high performance multi-junction CPV module promises to accelerate growth in photovoltaic power generation.

  • An experimental study was conducted to investigate the performance of a concentrating photovoltaic cell (CPV) against temperature. It is know that a high efficiency of a CPV can be achieved only with proper cell temperature as well as high concentration ratio (CR). This study is concerned with appropriate cooling condition for a liquid-convection cooler for the best performance of a specific CPV. A series of experiments was conducted in a range of cell temperatures as a result of varying cooling conditions, while the concentration ratio was 390 and the solar irradiation flux was higher than 900 $W/m^2$ in outdoor environment. The CPV had a planar dimension of 10 by 10 mm. A Fresnel lens was used as a concentrator, of which the dimension was 221 mm(W) ${\times}$ 221 mm(L) ${\times}$ 3 mm(t) and the transmissivity was known to be 0.8. The cooler was attached to the bottom side of the CPV and had a contact area of 21 mm(W) ${\times}$ 26 mm(L), which was identical to the size of the base plate of the CPV. The coolant temperature was controlled by an isothermal bath and the flow rate was controlled and measured by a flowmeter. The experimental results showed that the average of power efficiency of the CPV decreased from 28.6 % to 24.7 % as the cell temperature increased from $36^{\circ}C$ to $97^{\circ}C$. An appropriate cooling method of a CPV might increase the power conversion efficiency by about 4% for the same concentration ratio. Discussion is included from the viewpoint of the combined efficiency in addition to the power efficiency.

  • There are two main types of concentrating optical systems in use today: refractive types that use Fresnel lenses, and reflective systems that use one or more mirrors. Regardless of the chosen optical system, the result is concentrated sunlight being aimed at the sensitive face of the cell, to produce more energy from less photovoltaic material. In this paper, for the achieve trackerless CPV system, CPV module included that the spherical lens with reflect mirror makes it possible to achieve high and stable power generation performance for the high concentration photovoltaic power generation system and cope with the needs for a variety of shapes and sizes in flexible manners and that the multiple cavity assemble method greatly reduces costs. Development of these high performance multi-junction CPV module promises to accelerate growth in photovoltaic power generation.

Experimental Investigation on the Thermal Performance of a Heat Spreader Module for the CPV Cooling (CPV 냉각용 열분산기 모듈의 열성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this paper, the thermal performance of a heat spreader module for CPV(Concentrating Photovoltaic) cooling is experimentally investigated. In order to evaluate the thermal performance of the heat spreader module which consists of a Metal PCB and an aluminum alloy heat spreader, experiments are conducted with varying the type of the metal PCB, the thickness of the heat spreader, the inclination angle, and the applied heat flux. To validate the experimental data, three dimensional numerical simulations are performed using the commercial simulation tool in the present work. The experimental results are compared with the corresponding numerical results and are in close agreement with the numerical results. From the experimental results, the temperature difference between the maximum temperature and the ambient temperature increases with decreasing the thickness of the heat spreader and with increasing the applied heat flux. Also, it is found that the inclination angle significantly affects the thermal performance of the heat spreader. the maximum temperature difference of the heat spreader with the horizontal orientation is much larger than that with the vertical orientation.

  • Silicon feed stock shortage have acted as major restraints for growth of photovoltaic industry. Concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) system will reduce the use of silicon PV materials. This paper presents the application possibility of mono-crystalline silicon solar cell, which has increased in market share, for PV concentrator. We measured the power of solar cell using sun simulator and I-V curve tracer and compared the results. The comparison of results showed that the concentrated solar cell generated the power more approximately 7 times than without concentration in spite of non-heat sink. If CPV technology included heat sink combines already developed PV tracking system, it will have a merit economically.

  • In this paper, a cooling system that includes a heat spreader and a natural convective heat sink is proposed for the cooling of a concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) module. The heat spreader and the natural convective heat sink are designed on the basis of previous analytical investigations. In order to evaluate the proposed cooling system, we conducted experimental investigations varying the heat rate and the inclined angle of the cooling system. From the experimental results, it is found that the proposed cooling system satisfies the design constraints for good operation of the CPV module. Finally, a correlation is suggested for estimating the effects of the heat rate and the inclined angle on the thermal performance of the natural convective heat sink is suggested.

  • The energy of CPV system is different as the altitude and azimuth of solar. In order to The maximum of solar energy density, the tracking system which does there to make be the module and the solar will be able to maintain a normal line is necessary. This paper proposed for GPS solar tracker of stand-alone 60[W] concentrating photovoltaic system. The position algorithm of solar tracker is through the coordinates transformation calculating the altitude and azimuth of the solar.

  • PV 태양광 발전은 PV 재료가 고가이므로 일반 전력비용에 비해 상대적으로 비용이 높아진다. 저가형 광학 집광기술과 PV를 통합하게 되면, 비용뿐만 아니라 설치면적 등에서 유리하게 되나, 집광기의 단점이 함께 추가되게 된다. 집광기는 작은 수광각과 송신광선을 갖고 있어 PV 모듈에 필요한 태양광, 광학손실의 손실정도를 최소화하기 위한 신중한 시스템 디자인과 2축형 트레킹 장치가 필요하다. 고정식 비집광 시스템보다 더 많은 에너지를 얻기 위해서는 광학시스템의 손실율을 줄이고, 고효율의 PV 모듈을 이용한 PV셀의 상호연결이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 우선, 비이미지 프레넬 렌즈 집광기를 사용한 PV 시스템에 대하여 간단하게 설명한 후, 출력전력값을 이론적으로 예측하고 PV 효율과 시스템 성능을 제시하였다. 프레넬 렌즈 선형 집광기 통합 PV 시스템과 비집광 PV 모듈의 출력전력값과 시스템 비용을 비교하면, PV 전력비용을 줄일 수 있는 집광기의 이용이 유용한 것을 알 수 있다. 따라서, 집광형 PV 시스템은 미래의 에너지 이용에 매우 유리한 시스템이라 할 수 있다.

  • CPV system in the desert areas or areas near the equator, as is suitable for high-temperature region. As compared to silicon solar cells, CPV system have a high proportion of a BOS (balance of system). Solar cells because of its low proportion when designing a module technology is applied in a variety of ways. Applied to the CPV system is classified into two kinds of optical technology. One of those using fresnel lens uses refraction of light energy. The other is a mirror reflection of the structure using sprays. Both of these two ways to condense the sun to collect solar cell is a form of light. And goals by using a small solar cell materials is to produce more energy. In this paper, suitable for a domestic environment, with the aim CPV Manufacturing Technology, built on a variety of modular process technology to the development of a prototype performance analysis was carried out. In particular, silicone coated on the glass by the method of implementation of the Fresnel lens SOG(Silicon on glass) by applying the lens to absorb the solar spectrum was broad. In addition to, for the analyze to characteristics of the CPV module, developed CPV module performance and generating characteristics studied.
