  • Due to COVID-19, much research has been conducted on learning loss and educational gaps due to the postponement of the start of school and prolonged online distance learning, and most of the research has focused on the phenomenon of educational gaps. If a pandemic situation like this occurs in the future, fundamental policies are needed to resolve the educational gap. A fundamental solution requires not only an understanding of the educational gap phenomenon, but also the structure behind the phenomenon. Therefore, from a structuralist perspective, this study sought to model the educational gap caused by COVID-19 as a prototype of systems thinking and identify its structure. In addition, we looked at the unintended consequences resulting from policies aimed at resolving existing educational gaps. In order to respond to similar disaster situations in the future, policies for resolving the digital gap, support for basic academic skills, quality improvement for distance learning, and self-directed learning were discussed based on the structure of this study.

  • Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare complication of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), causing multi-organ damage affecting the heart, lungs, kidneys, digestive tract, and nervous system. As the cases of MIS-C have been increasing following the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of appropriate management for MIS-C is becoming increasingly apparent. Immunomodulating agents such as anakinra, infliximab, and steroids are regarded as supplementary therapy to the first-line treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin. However, these immunomodulating therapies can potentially precipitate opportunistic infections, including those caused by cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr virus, and tuberculosis, or increase the risk of co-infections. Herein, we report a case of a 3-year-old boy who was treated with immunoglobulin, infliximab, and high-dose methylprednisolone for MIS-C, and subsequently developed a persistent fever lasting 32 days caused by a CMV infection.

  • The outbreak of COVID-19 is facing a global crisis. Therefore, this study comprehensively reviews the risk perception, tourism attitude, and tourism intention of potential tourists in the COVID-19 situation. As a research finding, three factors were derived for tourism risk perception: physical risk, social risk, and performance risk. It is verified that social risk to be a significant factors affecting tourism attitude. Also, it proved that social risk, performance risk to be important factors affecting tourism intention. A t-test was conducted to examine the implications of demographic characteristics(gender, age, job) in the study. As a result of the analysis, it was found that potential tourists in their 20's age perceived social risk as more important than other age groups. In addition, potential tourists in their 20's showed more positive tourism attitudes than other age groups. As a result of analyzing differences according to job, it was found that the student group had higher social risk, tourism attitude, and tourism intention than other occupational groups. Based on the research results, it can help derive strategies to reduce tourists' perception of risk in special situations such as COVID-19 and contribute to academia.

  • This study tried to derive improvement measures by identifying the perceptions of industrial college instructors and learners in the technology convergence sector, where various technologies are combined, as distance education at colleges are prolonged due to COVID-19 and difficulties for instructors and learners continue. To this end, an online survey was conducted on automobile professors and students at the end of the second semester of 2020. As a result of the survey analysis, it was found that professors and students had similar perceptions about the advantages of online classes, such as freedom of time and space, repeatable learning, and recycling. In terms of difficulties, it was found that students felt a decrease in learning immersion due to a lack of sense of presence, and both professors and students felt the difficulty of interaction relatively large. This study is meaningful in that it prepares suggestions and basic data on college policy support for online education at industrial colleges during and after COVID-19.

  • This study aimed to examine the effect of the income change and income level during the COVID-19 pandemic on individuals' depression, and to test how those associations may differ by gender. Participants consisted of 634 adults(Mage=44.18, SDage=13.88, 313 females) recruited through an online research company. Participants completed a set of questionnaires that measured income change, average monthly income for the past six months, and the Korean version of CES-D. The results indicated that decreases in income, but not levels of income, significantly predicted levels of depression. Furthermore, both income change and income level interacted with gender to predict depression. Specifically, income change predicted depression only for males, while income level predicted depression only for females. These findings suggest that the effects of income-related indicators on depression during the pandemic may differ by gender. The study also offers practical implications by proposing gender as a potential factor to consider in early identification and intervention to prevent depression during the pandemic.

  • This study was conducted to identify the trends in newspaper articles related to nurses reported after the COVID-19 pandemic, and analyze the image of nurses in newspaper articles. The target of analysis is 199 articles related to nurses reported in four major domestic newspapers for 10 months from January 2020 to October 2020, when the domestic COVID-19 pandemic in full swing. As a result of the analysis, compared to the past, the volume of reports of articles related to nurses increased, and there were many articles on the topic of nurses being treated poorly compared to work, having a sense of vocation and caring for patients. There were many reports of articles that were favorable or neutral, and most of them were reporters, but few were written by professional reporters or medical personnel including nurses. Unlike previous studies, the proportion of nurses in nurse-related articles was often treated as the main character. Both the nursing and the media should make systematic and continuous efforts to ensure that accurate descriptions of the various roles and activities of nurses appear in the newspaper.

  • In the era of the Covid19, container shipping rates are surging up. Many studies have attempted to investigate the factors affecting a surge in container shipping rates. However, there is limited literature using text mining techniques for analyzing the underlying causes of the surge. This study aims to identify the factors behind the unprecedented surge in shipping rates using network text analysis and LDA topic modeling. For the analysis, we collected the data and keywords from articles in Lloyd's List during past two years(2020-2021). The results of the text analysis showed that the current surge is mainly due to "US-China trade war", "rising blanking sailings", "port congestion", "container shortage", and "unexpected events such as the Suez canal blockage".

  • Christian education for the world after COVID-19 needs to use rapid changes in the surrounding situation as an opportunity to overcome a new crisis so that the church can achieve its educational mission. If the biggest dilemma in the post-Corona era is that there is no authoritative educational prescription anywhere, the most reasonable option for church education in this situation is to emphasize and cultivate learners' ability to flexibly cope with rules that are completely different than before COVID-19. As a natural result of the crisis, Christian education needs to be more interested in the trend of social change in the pandemic era(glocalization, digital transformation, economic inequality, educational environment change, church crisis) and actively reflect its contents in education. In addition, while operating a mobile(or online) church school that combines offline and online, there is an urgent need for an innovative transition to a core church school where certain church schools and churches cooperate with each other, a church school that guarantees a safe learning space, and an ecological church school that is interested in education dealing with climate change and ecology.

  • The purpose of this study was to confirm that the property generalization to social categories with low coherence is stronger when stress due to COVID-19 is perceived as high, compared to when stress is perceived as low. To this end, this study selected categories with high coherence(nun, soldier, flight attendant) and categories with low coherence(wedding planner, interpreter, florist), and recruited 336 participants to perform a category-based inductive generalization task(inferring how many properties repeatedly observed by some category members would appear across all category members), and measured their perceived COVID-19 stress. As a result, this study showed that when the cohesion of social categories is high, the effect of property generalization is stronger than when it is low, and the effect of property generalization is stronger in those who perceive stress due to Corona 19 higher than those who perceive it as low. In addition, this study confirmed that people who perceive COVID-19 stress strongly tend to generalize strongly to properties that are repeatedly observed in the low coherence category. This study is important in that it shows that there is a cognitive mechanism that is at the root of the phenomenon that stereotypes and prejudices deepen and discriminatory behaviors increase after the outbreak of COVID-19, such as COVID-19 stress and the resulting increase in attribute generalization tendency.
