An Analysis of Organizational System and Management on Small Sized Local Science Museum during the COVID-19 Situation (코로나19 시기에 지방 소규모 과학관의 조직 및 운영 현황 분석)

  • This study conducted qualitative research using Geochang Wolseong Space Creative Science Museum as a case study to investigate the organizational and operational status of small local science museums during the COVID-19 pandemic, as a basic study for the dissemination of scientific culture and public understanding of science. To analyze the situation of the science museum, an evaluation framework was developed, and information obtained through various communication channels and in-depth interviews with information commissioners of the museum were used for the study. As of 2020, when COVID-19 was at its peak, this science museum showed a clear decline in sales and visitor numbers compared to the previous year. Despite this situation, the museum was found to be using crisis management methods such as introducing unface-to-face programs, managing exhibits, and using various promotional media. However, the shortage of professional personnel, excessive workload of employees, and absence of differentiation from other science museums remain as challenges to be addressed in the future for sustainable earth science.

The Influences of COVID-19 Knowledge, Anxiety, and Nursing Professionalism on Clinical Practicum Stress among Nursing Students (간호대학생의 COVID-19에 대한 지식, 불안, 간호전문직관이 임상실습 스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study sought to identify the levels of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) knowledge, anxiety, nursing professionalism, and clinical practicum stress, and the factors influencing this stress in nursing students. Methods: A cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted with the participation of 140 junior and senior nursing students recruited from three nursing colleges in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do. Data analysis was performed using independent t-tests, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using the SPSS/WIN 26.0 program. Results: The study arrived at a mean score of 63.18±13.89 for clinical practicum stress, which showed a significant difference based on the perceived health status and reasons for admission to nursing school. Anxiety and professionalism exhibited a noteworthy correlation with clinical practicum stress. The significant predictors of clinical practicum stress among nursing students were perceived health status (β=.39, p<.001), anxiety (β=.25, p=.033), and the reasons for admission to nursing school (β=.17, p=.012). The total explanatory power of these variables was 23.0% (F=6.28, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that it is necessary to provide effective education to promote nursing professionalism during a pandemic. It is also necessary to develop and include various programs in the curriculum that strategically intervene to prevent anxiety in pre-service nurses. This would reduce the stress in the clinical practice of nursing students when faced with new infectious diseases in the future.

Estimation of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus Inactivation Time Using Spectral Ultraviolet Radiation (파장별 지표 자외선 복사량을 이용한 SARS-CoV-2 바이러스 비활성화 시간 추정 연구)

  • Corona Virus Disease 19 pandemic (COVID-19) causes many deaths worldwide, and has enormous impacts on society and economy. The COVID-19 was caused by a new type of coronavirus (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Cornonavirus 2; SARS-CoV-2), which has been found that these viruses can be effectively inactivated by ultraviolet (UV) radiation of 290~315 nm. In this study, 90% inactivation time of the SARS-CoV-2 virus was analyzed using ground observation data from Brewer spectrophotometer at Yonsei University, Seoul and simulation data from UVSPEC for the period of 2015~2017 and 2020. Based on 12:00-13:00 noon time, the shortest virus inactivation time were estimated as 13.5 minutes in June and 4.8 minutes in July/August, respectively, under all sky and clear sky conditions. In the diurnal and seasonal variations, SARS-CoV-2 could be inactivated by 90% when exposed to UV radiation within 60 minutes from 10:00 to 14:00, for the period of spring to autumn. However, in winter season, the natural prevention effect was meaningless because the intensity of UV radiation weakened, and the time required for virus inactivation increased. The spread of infectious diseases such as COVID-19 is related to various and complex interactions of several variables, but the natural inactivation of viruses by UV radiation presented in this study, especially seasonal differences, need to be considered as major variables.

  • The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the Vietnamese economy. In the midst of a complex disease that compelled people to limit their interaction, customers' shopping habits shifted from "offline" to "online" transactions. Mobile payments have also grown in popularity. The goal of this study is to figure out what factors influence the use of mobile payments by hotel clients in Can Tho after COVID-19. The research team also examines how those factors influence customers' willingness to use mobile payment and makes recommendations to better the current situation. Primary data was collected from 227 persons using online surveys and processed with SPSS software for this study. To analyze the correlation relationship between the elements determining the intention to use, the Cronbach alpha, EFA, Correlation, and Regression methods used to assess the scale are applied. Perceived Trustworthiness, Perceived Usefulness, and Perceived Ease of Use all have positive effects on customers' propensity to use, according to the findings. Perceived Security, on the other hand, has no bearing. The findings of this study have significant theoretical and practical implications for the development of mobile payment services in Can Tho, particularly following the implementation of COVID-19.

  • In this study, the difference in resilience was analyzed based on the results of a study of classes that practiced using Raspberry Pi, which had to cross school due to temporarily conducting online classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of the study, in online classes, 14 people had resilience less than 150, 32 people who had 150 or more and less than 180, and 9 people who had 180 or more. On the other hand, in the school attendance class, there were 7 people with resilience less than 150, 29 people with resilience less than 150 and less than 180, and 20 people with more than 180. Therefore, in subjects where programming using Raspberry Pi and circuit manufacturing are taught at the same time, the laboratory and practice environment should be able to proceed properly as much as possible. should proceed mainly.

Predictive Models for the Tourism and Accommodation Industry in the Era of Smart Tourism: Focusing on the COVID-19 Pandemic (스마트관광 시대의 관광숙박업 영업 예측 모형: 코로나19 팬더믹을 중심으로)

  • The COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 caused continuous damage worldwode, especially the smart tourism industry was hit directly by the blockade of sky roads and restriction of going out. At a time when overseas travel and domestic travel have decreased significantly, the number of tourist hotels that are colsed and closed due to the continued deficit is increasing. Therefore, in this study, licensing data from the Ministry of Public Administraion and Security were collected and visualized to understand the operation status of the tourism and lodging industry. The machine learning classification algorithm was applied to implement the business status prediction model of the tourist hotel, the performance of the prediction model was optimized using the ensemble algorithm, and the performance of the model was evaluated through 5-Fold cross-validation. It was predicted that the survival rate of tourist hotels would decrease somewhat, but the actual survival rate was analyzed to be no different from before COVID-19. Through the prediction of the business status of the hotel industry in this paper, it can be used as a basis for grasping the operability and development trends of the entire tourism and lodging industry.

An analysis of the waning effect of COVID-19 vaccinations

  • Vaccine development is one of the key efforts to control the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, it has become apparent that the immunity acquired through vaccination is not permanent, known as the waning effect. Therefore, monitoring the proportion of the population with immunity is essential to improve the forecasting of future waves of the pandemic. Despite this, the impact of the waning effect on forecasting accuracies has not been extensively studied. We proposed a method for the estimation of the effective immunity (EI) rate which represents the waning effect by integrating the second and booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines. The EI rate, with different periods to the onset of the waning effect, was incorporated into three statistical models and two machine learning models. Stringency Index, omicron variant BA.5 rate (BA.5 rate), booster shot rate (BSR), and the EI rate were used as covariates and the best covariate combination was selected using prediction error. Among the prediction results, Generalized Additive Model showed the best improvement (decreasing 86% test error) with the EI rate. Furthermore, we confirmed that South Korea's decision to recommend booster shots after 90 days is reasonable since the waning effect onsets 90 days after the last dose of vaccine which improves the prediction of confirmed cases and deaths. Substituting BSR with EI rate in statistical models not only results in better predictions but also makes it possible to forecast a potential wave and help the local community react proactively to a rapid increase in confirmed cases.

COVID-19 response survey study on health personnel in Jeju Special Self-governing Province (제주특별자치도 코로나19 대응 보건인력 대상 설문조사 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the issues of supplementation and improvement to prepare for the outbreak of new infectious diseases such as new variants of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to guide work for a strategic new response to infectious disease. Public officials of Jeju Special Self-governing Province and health personnel responding to COVID-19, working at six public health centers in Jeju-do region were administered a survey about additional preparations to be made in the future, based on the period when COVID-19 was treated legally as a first-class infectious disease. Frequency analysis was conducted on the collected data. The Likert 5-point scale and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to compare the scores for effective response to emerging infectious diseases according to demographics. Among the important factors identified for effective response to new infectious diseases, 'facilitation of cooperation with public institutions' and 'facilitation of cooperation with private institutions' had the highest scores. In the future, when a patient presents with a new infectious disease, the step that needs to be supplemented in each phase of the public health center's response is 'immediate response team operation'. Further, public health centers responded that 'expansion of dedicated personnel related to infectious diseases' needs to be improved to respond to new infectious diseases. Along with the results of this study, considering the difficulties experienced by health personnel responding to new infectious diseases in preparation for future outbreaks of new infectious diseases, and to respond effectively, detailed and clear guidelines for responding to quarantine of patients of new infectious diseases will be needed.

Analysis of the Impact of US, China, and Korea Macroeconomic Variables on KOSPI and VKOSPI (미국·중국·한국 거시경제변수가 한국 주식수익률 및 변동성 지수 변화율에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • Purpose - This article analyzes the impact of macroeconomic variables of the United States, China, and Korea on KOSPI and VKOSPI, in that United States and China have a great influence on Korea, having an export-driven economy. Design/methodology/approach - The influence of US, China, and Korea interest rates, industrial production index, consumer price index, US employment index, Chinese real estate index, and Korea's foreign exchange reserves on KOSPI and VKOSPI is analyzed on monthly basis from Jan 2012 to Aug 2023, using multifactor model. Findings - The KOSPI showed a positive relationship with the U.S. industrial production index and Korea's foreign exchange reserves, and a negative relationship with the U.S. employment index and Chinese real estate index. The VKOSPI showed a positive relationship with the Chinese consumer price index, and a negative relationship with the U.S. interest rates, and Korean foreign exchange reserves. Next, dividing the analysis into two periods with the Covid crisis and the analysis by country, the impact of US macroeconomic variables on KOSPI was greater than Chinese ones and the impact of Chinese macroeconomic variables on VKOSPI was greater than US ones. The result of the forward predictive failure test confirmed that it was appropriate to divide the period into two periods with economic event, the Covid Crisis. After the Covid crisis, the impact of macroeconomic variables on KOSPI and VKOSPI increased. This reflects the financial market co-movements due to governments' policy coordination and central bank liquidity supply to overcome the crisis in the pandemic situation. Research implications or Originality - This study is meaningful in that it analyzed the effects of macroeconomic variables on KOSPI and VKOSPI simultaneously. In addition, the leverage effect can also be confirmed through the relationship between macroeconomic variables and KOSPI and VKOSPI. This article examined the fundamental changes in the Korean and global financial markets following the shock of Corona by applying this research model before and after Covid crisis.

COVID-19 Healthcare Spending and Challenges in OECD Countries (OECD 국가의 코로나19 의료비 지출 현황과 남겨진 과제)

  • OECD countries' Current Health Expenditure has reached the 9% of GDP, driven by high growth in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Korea marked 9.4% in 2022, surpassing the OECD average (9.2%) for the first time since joining the OECD. While the share of COVID-19-related health expenditures in total health spending is 7.8 percent, well above the OECD average (5.1 percent), the structure and fluctuation patterns of health expenditures are different from other OECD countries, which has two implications from a health system perspective. First, even in the unique context of a health crisis, it is important to examine the impact that steep health spending growth can have on sustainability of the healthcare system. Second, among the various healthcare interventions to combat the health crisis, we should explore responses that are appropriate to the Korean context to increase the resilience of the healthcare system.
