Concerned with environmental issue, a new decomposition method for CFCs that caused the destruction of ozone layer was proposed. Using thermal plasma process, CFC113 decomposed completely. In order to quantify the tendency in decomposition and recombination of CFC113, thermodynamic equilibrium calculations were performed. The calculation was conducted with CFC113, $H_2$, $O_2$ at 1 atm and 300 K~5000 K. In the experiment, products which are generated after decomposition in the plasma were examined by varying reacting gases($H_2$, $O_2$) flow rates and the changes of inside diameters of quenching tubes. Decomposition products were analyzed using Gas Chromatograph. The results are very promising with a decomposition efficiency greater than 99.99%. As to CFC113/$H_2$=1/3, conversion to CO decreased with increasing $O_2$ ratio. When CFC113/$O_2$=1/1, 1/1.5 and 1/2, conversion to CO increases above $H_2$ ratio of 3. The change of CO conversion is not sensitive to power changes. As total flow rate increased, CO conversion was slightly decreased. When the inside diameter of the quenching tube was changed from 8mm into 4mm, CO conversion was increased due to enhanced quenching rate.

The $SO_2$ catalytic reduction was carried out under the condition of high pressure in this study. Sn-Zr based oxide and CO were used as the catalyst and reducing agent for the reduction of $SO_2$ to element sulfur, respectively. In order to compare the reactivity with the pressure on the catalytic process, the reactivity tests were performed under the conditions of atmospheric pressure and 20 atm. $SO_2$ conversion, the element sulfur yield and COS selectivity were also compared with changing the reaction temperature, $CO/SO_2$ mole ratio and the space velocity(GHSV). $SO_2$ conversion increased with increasing temperature and $CO/SO_2$ mole ratio under the condition of atmospheric pressure and element sulfur yield decreased due to the production of COS by the series reaction of CO and the produced sulfur. However, high $SO_2$ conversion and high element sulfur were obtained under the condition of 20 atm. It was concluded that COS decreased due to the condensation of the produced element sulfur under the condition of high pressure. Therefore, the high sulfur yield for $SO_2$ catalytic reduction could be profitably obtained under the condition of high pressure.

At the early stage of a bulk syndiotactic polymerization of styrene, the homogeneous reactant mixture transforms to a slurry state consisting of a precipitated solid syndiotactic PS and a liquid reactant mixture. As the reaction proceeds, the slurry transforms into a wet and then a dried powder if proper methods are used to prevent agglomeration. When a large amount of catalyst and co-catalyst is added to the styrene to achieve a high conversion rate, the reactant mixture becomes a lumpy agglomeration and further control of the reaction is impossible. In this study, we introduce a novel approach to avoid such agglomeration while maintaining a high conversion rate. Instead of adding the catalyst and co-catalyst at once, the total amount of the catalyst and co-catalyst is divided into several parts and added successively. This method is found to be very effective to avoid the formation of agglomerate and to maintain a fairly high conversion rate of slurry into powdery product (up to 70 %). It is also observed that this method produces syndiotactic PS of a higher molecular weigh.

To enhance the performance of SEWGS system by holding the WGS catalyst in a SEWGS reactor, a spring type bed insert was developed. In this study, effects of operating variables such as steam/CO ratio, gas velocity, syngas concentration on CO conversion were investigated in a fluidized bed reactor using the spring type bed insert to hold the WGS catalyst as tablet shape. CO conversion increased initially as the steam/CO ratio increased. But further increment of the steam/CO ratio caused decreasing of CO conversion because of increment of gas velocity and decrement of syngas concentration. Moreover, CO conversion decreased as the gas velocity increased and the syngas concentration decreased at the same steam/CO ratio. Continuous operation up to 48 hours (2 days) was carried out to check reactivity decay of WGS catalyst supported by spring type bed insert. The average CO conversion was 99.04% and we could conclude that the WGS reactivity at those conditions was maintained up to 48 hours.
Thermodynamic analysis on carbon dioxide reforming of methane was performed using a computer program which can handle condensed species in the products, and the reforming experiments were conducted over $Al_2O_3$, $La_2O_3$, ZSM-5, MCM-41, KIT-1 supported nickel catalysts, and a commercial ICI 46-1. It was estabished that a system which consists of $CH_4$, $CO_2$, CO, $H_2$, $H_2O$, and C is appropriate for theoretical equilibrium calculations and addition of water vapor or oxygen was found to diminish the contribution of carbon dioxide in reforming. Silicate molecular sieve-supported catalysts such as Ni/ZSM-5, Ni/MCM-41, Ni/KIT-1 were effective for high $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ conversions as well as for high CO yield. Coke formation was suppressed when CaO was added as a promoter. Ni/Ca/KIT-1 which contains 10% Ni with 3% Ca showed conversion approaching equilibrium levels above $650^{\circ}C$ and maintained constant activity over 20 h. Despite increased space velocity, relatively high conversion and CO yield were observed.
Hydrothermal synthesis was conducted with starting material as Barium hydroxide and hydrous titania ($TiO_2{\cdot}xH_2O$) to obtain barium titanate fine Powder. The conversion, crystal structure and properties of as-prepared powder were investigated according to reaction temperature, time and concentration. The effect of variables on conversion was in order of time < temperature < concentration and the maximum conversion reached to 99.5% in the case of hydrothermal synthesis at $180^{\circ}C$ for 2 h with 2.0 M reactant concentration. At low concentration such as 0.25 M, formation of unreacted $BaCO_3$ and $TiO_2$ was not inevitable at even high reaction temperature and these components converted into $BaTi_2O_5$ at high temperature and remained as impurity. As concentration of reactant increased, the size of as-synthesized $BaTiO_3$ powder deceased and Ba/Ti molar ratio approached into 1, showing Ba/Ti ratio of $1{\pm}0.005$ for reaction at $180^{\circ}C$ for 2 h with 2.0 M concentration.
Passive autocatalytic recombiner (PAR) is considered as an explosive gas control system in operating NPP plants. This work investigates and evaluates hydrogen recombination performance over manufactured $Pt/TiO_2$ catalysts. When the space velocity increases, the hydrogen conversion decreased, while hydrogen depletion rate (g/sec) increases highly in $35000{\sim}100000hr^{-1}$ Gas Hourly Space Velocity (GHSV). Hydrogen conversion and depletion rate with Pt loading is investigated. As a result, there were no differences in the hydrogen conversion, but exothermic heating rate (K/sec) is increases as Pt loading increases. The catalyst showes a high hydrogen conversion efficiency of 80% under atmospheric conditions.

The catalytic performance of some metal oxides in the vapor phase selective oxidation of $H_2S$ in the stream containing ammonia and water was investigated. Among the catalysts tested $Fe_2O_3/SiO_2$ was the most promising catalyst for practical application. It showed higher than 90% $H_2S$ conversion and very small amount of $SO_2$ emission over a temperature range of $240{\sim}280^{\circ}C$. The effects of reaction temperature, $O_2/H_2S$ ratio, amount of ammonia and water vapor on the catalytic activity of $Fe_2O_3/SiO_2$ were discussed to better understand the reaction mechanism. The $H_2S$ conversion showed a maximum at $260^{\circ}C$ and it decreased with increasing temperature over $280^{\circ}C$. With an increase of $O_2/H_2S$ ratio from 0.5 to 4, the conversion was slightly increased, but the selectivity to elemental sulfur was remarkably decreased. The increase of ammonia amount favored the conversion and the selectivity to elemental sulfur with a decrease in $SO_2$ production. The presence of water vapor decreased both the activity and the selectivity to sulfur, but increased the ATS selectivity.
The chemical heat storage as the one way of utilization for high temperature solar energy was considered. The stram reforming reaction of methane was chosen for endothermic reaction. The reactor was made of stainless steel tube and it's dimension was 0.635 cm I.D. and 30 cm long, coiled tube because of the geometry requirement of solar receiver The effects of space velocity and reactants mole ratio on the methane conversion and CO selectivity were examined. From the experimental results, the optimum steam/methane mole ratio was determined.

In the present study the glow discharge characteristics of $CO_2$ in a parallel plate electrode system were investigated, and the decomposition properties of $CO_2$ concerned with the discharge characteristics were discussed. The results show that $CO_2$ concentration decreases with increase in discharge power and decrease in gas pressure. The maximum conversion of $CO_2$ by glow discharge was 52% under the conditions of gas pressure, 10m Torr and 290W of discharge power.
