  • Electrum-galena-sphalerite mineralization of the Yangpyeong-Weonju Au-Ag area was deposited in three stages of quartz and calcite veins which fill fault breccia zones. Fluid inclusion and stable isotope data show that ore mineralization was deposited at temperatures between $260^{\circ}C$ and $180^{\circ}C$ from fluids with salinities between 8.9 and 2.9 equivalent weight percent NaCl. Evidence of boiling indicates pressures of <50 bars, corresponding to depths of 220 to 550 m, respectively, assuming lithostatic and hydrostatic loads. Au-Ag deposition was likely a result of bolling coupled with cooling. Within stages I and II there is an apparent increase in ${\delta}^{34}S$ values of $H_2S$ with paragenetic time ; early -1.4~2.7‰ to later 6.6-9.2‰. The progressively heavier $H_2S$ values can be generated through isotopic re-equilibration in the ore fluid following removal of $H_2S$ by boiling or precipitation of sulfides. Measured and calculated hydrogen and oxygen isotope values of ore-forming fluids suggest meteoric water dominance, approaching unexchanged meteoric water values. Comparison of these values with those of other Korean Au-Ag deposits reveals a relationship between depth and degree of water-rock interaction. All investigated Korean Jurassic and Cretaceous gold-silver-bearing deposits have fluids which are dominantly evolved, meteoric water, but on1y deeper systems (${\geq}1.25km$) are exclusively gold-rich.

  • This study was carried out to compare the bioavailability of Hanmi clarithromycin (250 mg/tablet) with that of $Klaricid^{(R)}$ The bioavailability was examined on 20 volunteers who received a single dose (500 mg) of each drug in the fasting state in a randomized balanced 2-way crossover design. After dosing, blood samples were collected for a period of 12 hours. Plasma samples were analyzed for clarithromycin and roxithromycin(internal standard) by HPLC/Coulometric BCD. The pharmaco-kinetic parameters ($AUC_{0-l2hr}$, Cmax, Tmax, $AUC_{inf}$, Ka, Kel, $t_{1/2}$, Vd/F and Cl/F) were calculated from the plasma clarithromycin concentration-time data of each volunteer. The computer program 'WinNonlin' was used for compartmental analysis. One compartment model with first-order input, from order output with lag time, weighting factor $l/y^2$ was chosen as the appropriate pharmacokinetic model. The major pharmacokinetic parameters ($AUC_{0-l2hr},\;AUC_{inf}$, Cmax and Tmax) of Hanmi clarithromycin were $10.7\pm0.5\;{\mu}g{\cdot}hr{\cdot}ml^{-1},\;12.7\pm0.7\;{\mu}g{\cdot}hr{\cdot}ml^{-1},\;1.7\pm0.1\;{\mu}g/ml\;and\;2.0\pm0.2\;hr$, respectively, and those of $Klaricid^{(R)}\;were\;9.8\pm0.5\;{\mu}g{\cdot}hr{\cdot}ml^{-1},\;11.7\pm0.6\;{\mu}g{\cdot}hr{\cdot}ml^{-1},\;1.6\pm0.1\;{\mu}g/ml\;and\;2.1\pm0.1\;hr$, respectively. The differences in mean values of $AUC_{0-l2hr},\;AUC_{inf}$ and Cmax between two products were $9.88\%,\;8.94%\;and\;6.59\%$, respectively. The least significant differences at $\alpha=0.05$ for $AUC_{0-l2hr},\;AUC_{inf}$ and Cmax were $16.08\%,\;17.81\%\;and\;18.94\%$, respectively. Though the plasma clarithromycin concentrations of Hanmi clarithromycin were higher than those of $Klaricid^{(R)}$ at all observed times, the bioavailability of Hanmi clarithromycin appeared to be bioequivalent with that of $Klaricid^{(R)}$. The Ka, Kel, $t_{1/2}$, Vd/F and Cl/F of the Hanmi clarithromycin were $2.69\pm0.53\;hr^{-1},\;0.18\pm0.01 hr^{-1},\;3.9\;hr,\;248.8\pm11.4\;L\;and\;43.7\pm2.6\;L/hr$, respectively, and those of $Klaricid^{(R)} were 2.19\pm0.51\;hr^{-1},\;0.18\pm0.02\;hr^{-1},\;3.7\;hr,\;266.7\pm22.4\;L\;and\;45.3\pm2.8L/hr$, respectively. There were no statistically significant differences between two drugs in all pharmacokinetic parameters.

  • This basic research was conducted to support the development of woodcraft bio-adhesives using peach gum, which is the resin produced by peach trees. The synthesis conditions of these adhesives were optimized by performing 144 experiments. The application potential of peach gum adhesives was explored by comparing their properties with those of three natural adhesives and four synthetic adhesives. The best adhesive strength was obtained by dissolving the resin in 80 mL of distilled water containing 1.5 g NaOH, 1.65 g H2O2 ( pH 8.0-9.0), 0.5 g NaClO, and 0.5 g H2BO2. The adhesive strength, which showed minimal changes and excellent reversibility, was 125.39 kgf/cm2. Ultraviolet radiation-mediated deterioration in strength in the absence of total aerobic bacteria was negligible (△E*ab = 2.75). These data confirm the potential value of peach gum-based bio-adhesives for woodcraft as well as their utility as alternatives for natural and synthetic adhesives used for the manufacture and restoration of handicrafts and preservation of cultural assets.

  • The purpose of this study is to recover valuable metals from spent batteries using a dry process. We focused on the effect of the smelting temperature on the composition of recovered solid and liquid products and collected gaseous products. After removal of the cover, the spent battery was left in NaCl solution and discharged. Then, the spent battery was made into a powder form through a crushing process. The smelting of the spent battery was performed in a tubular electric furnace in an oxygen atmosphere. For spent lithium-ion batteries, the recovery yield of the solid product was 80.1 wt% at a reaction temperature of 850 ℃, and the final product had 27.2 wt% of cobalt as well as other metals such as lithium, copper, and aluminum. Spent nickel-hydrogen batteries had a recovery yield of 99.2 wt% at a reaction temperature of 850 ℃ with about 37.6 wt% of nickel and other metals including iron. For spent nickel-cadmium batteries, the yield decreased to 65.4 wt% because of evaporation with increasing temperature. At 1050 ℃, the recovered metals were nickel (41 wt%) and cadmium (12.9 wt%). Benzene and toluene, which were not detected with the other secondary waste batteries, were detected in the gaseous product. The results of this study can be used as basic data for future research on the dry recycling process of spent secondary batteries.

  • Confined aquifer, which is separated with upper clayey or silty materials, is partially distributed at the depths of the sediments in Ddan-sum area on the lower Nakdong river. Measurements of groundwater levels at 13 sites explain that groundwater flow shows seasonally various due to seasonal rainfall and agricultural water use. From 9 long-term monitoring data of groundwater levels at 7 sites, 3 types of groundwater levels time series can be classified using principal component analysis. The first type is seen in the center of Ddan-sum and has a round-shape graph due to a weak response to stream water levels. The second type exists in the outer part of Ddan-sum and shows sharply peak-shape graph due to a rapid and strong response to stream water levels and rainfall. The last type, which is seen in a deep layer, has a periodicity by tital effect. From geochemical analysis at each monitoring sites, [$Ca-HCO_3$] type happens in the center of Ddan-sum far from Nakdong river, and [$Na-HCO_3$] and [$Ca-SO_4(Cl)$] types exist in the outer of Ddan-sum affected by river quality.

  • This study analyzed the effect of meteorological factors on the concentration of PM10 (particulate matter 10) in the atmosphere and the variation of rainwater quality using multivariate statistical analysis. The concentration of PM10 in the atmosphere was continuously measured during eleven precipitation events with a custom-built PM sensor node. A total of 183 rainwater samples were analyzed for pH, EC (electrical conductivity), and water-soluble cations (Na+, Mg2+, K+, Ca2+, NH4+) and anions (Cl-, NO3-, SO42-). The data has been analyzed using two multivariate statistical techniques (principal component analysis, PCA, and Pearson correlation analysis) to identify relationships among PM10 concentrations in the atmosphere, meteorological factors, and rainwater quality factors. When the rainfall intensity was relatively strong (> 5 mm/h, rainfall type 1), the PM10 concentration in the atmosphere showed a negative correlation (r = -0.55, p < 0.05) with cumulative rainfall. The PM10 concentration increased the concentration of water-soluble ions (r = 0.25) and EC (r = 0.4), and decreased the pH (r = -0.7) of rainwater samples. However, for rainfall type 2 (< 5 mm/h), there was no negative correlation between the PM10 concentration in the atmosphere and cumulative rainfall and no statistically significant correlation between the PM10 concentration in the atmosphere and rainwater quality.

  • The Dongwon Au-Ag deposit is located within the Paleozoic Taebaeksan province, Okcheon belt. Mineral paragenesis can be divided into two stages (stage I, ore-bearing quartz veins; stage II, barren carbonate veins) by major tectonic fracturing. Stage I, at which the precipitation of major ore minerals occurred, is further divided into three substages(early, middle and late) with paragenetic time based on minor fractures and discernible mineral assemblages: early, marked by deposition of pyrite with minor magnetite, pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite; middle, characterized by introduction of electrum and base-metal sulfides with minor sulfosalts; late, marked by argentite, Cu-As (and/or Sb) and Ag-Sb sulfosalts with base-metal sulfides. Fluid inclusion data show that stage I ore mineralization was deposited between initial high temperatures (≥430℃) and later lower temperatures (≤230℃) from fluids with salinities between 6.0 to 0.4 wt. percent equiv. NaCl. The relationship of salinity and homogenization temperature suggest that ore mineralization at Dongwon was deposited mainly due to fluid boiling, cooling and dilution via influx of cooler, more dilute meteoric waters. Changes in stage I vein mineralogy reflect decreasing temperature and fugacity of sulfur by evolution of the Dongwon hydrothermal system with increasing paragenetic time. The Dongwon deposit may represents a Korean-type and/or Au-Ag type mesothermal/epithermal gold-silver deposit.

  • We report fluid inclusion study results of copper-bearing quartz veins in Zogdor area, which is located within the Gurvansayhan island arc terrane of Southern Mongolia. At the Zogdor area, structurecontrolled copper mineralization is hosted in granodiorite-porphyry, which emplaced in the late Cretaceous formation. Within this granodiorite porphyry, copper-bearing quartz veins are associated with the hydrothermal alteration that includes quartz-epidote-magnetite, and quartz-magnetite in the propylitic zones. The veins are classified into two types, according to their mineral composition, which occur mainly as chalcopyrite, rare amounts of bornite, magnetite, and pyrite. Fluid inclusions in the quartz veins from the quartz-magnetite±chalcopyrite and quartz-epidote-magnetite veins are two-phase aqueous inclusions having bubble sizes of 5-30 vol.%, evident salinities of 2.0-22.6 wt.% NaCl, and homogenization temperatures of 107-270℃. Based on mineral assemblages of the observed veins, along with the geochemical properties and alteration faces of the host rock, fluid inclusion data show that the study area corresponds to propylitic alteration zone in the porphyry Cu related mineralization.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of laughter therapy on depression and sleep wake disorders among the elderly in residential facilities using a systemic review and meta-analysis. Twelve databases were searched. Two researchers independently performed the selection of the studies, data coding and assessment. The risk of bias was assessed using risk of bias (RoB) and risk of bias assessment tool for non-randomized studies (RoBANs). To estimate the effect size, meta-analysis of the studies was performed using R version 4.04. Out of the 1,122 retrieved articles, one randomized controlled trial (RCT) and eleven non-randomized controlled trials (non-RCTs) were selected for analysis. The overall effect size of eleven studies on depression was determined to be -1.04 (95% Cl: -1.53~-0.54, p<.001). There were statistically significant in the effect of below ten sessions and the effect of below 400 minutes'and 400 to 1000 minutes'interventions on depression. The overall effect size of five studies on sleep wake disorders was 0.83 (95% Cl: -0.26~1.93, p=.136), which was not statistically significant. There was statistically significant in the effect of below 300 minutes'interventions on sleep wake disorders. Laughter therapy was an effective non-pharmacological intervention to reduce depression among the elderly in residential facilities. The findings also suggest that guidelines for laughter therapy need to be developed considering the number of sessions and a duration of intervention to reduce depression and sleep wake disorders of the elderly in residential facilities.

  • This study aimed to identify the effects of death education programs among Korean aged on death anxiety and attitudes toward death in the convergence era. The searched kew words were included aged, death education program, death anxiety, and attitudes to death in the research papers published in Korea. Finally, 11 studies were selected and the effect size was calculated. Death anxiety and death attitude were selected as dependent variables, and publication type, total duration of intervention, and frequency of intervention were selected as moderator variables. The total of 11 papers were selected to estimate the effect sizes of interventions. As a result, the overall effect size of the death education program for the aged was 1.07. The overall effect size showed death education program was able to lower death anxiety (Hedges' g=1.30, 95% Cl=0.80~1.80, p<.01) and improve attitudes to death (Hedges' g=0.93, 95% Cl=0.49~1.37, p<.01) compared with the no intervention group. In the moderator analysis to identify the cause of heterogeneity, significant results were found in the frequency of intervention. We propose a study that repeatedly verifies the effect of related studies in the future by providing the theoretical basis and basic data for the development of the death education program.
