  • Objectives: To evaluate and summarize the efficacy and safety of manual therapy in temporomandibular disorder(TMD). Methods: Ten databases (Pubmed, Cochrane, EMBASE, AMED, CINAHL, CNKI, and four Korean databases) were searched up to March 2017. Pain and range of motion(ROM) of temporomandibular joint were used as the primary outcome measure, and effective rates, dysfunction scale and adverse events were used as secondary outcome measures. The Cochrane risk of bias tool was used to evaluate the methodological quality. Results: 10 randomized controlled trials(RCTs) involving 603 participants were included. There were no significant differences between the two groups in comparison with placebo manual therapy group. In comparison with Wait-list and conventional treatment groups, manual therapy significantly alleviated pain and ROM. Five RCTs(50.0%) reported adverse events and there were no adverse cases by manual therapy. Conclusions: We found evidence that manual therapy may alleviate symptoms of patients with TMD. A positive effect was observed in comparison with conventional treatment and Wait-list, but no conclusion for the comparisons with placebo manual therapy. There is no evidence of worsening symptoms or causing adverse events.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to discriminate the cough-induced rib fracture with chest pain occurred after chuna therapy. Methods: A 68-year-old female patient who is suffering from left chest wall pain with chronic cough was treated by Korean medical treatment and chuna therapy from November 11th 2014 to November 15th 2014. The improvement of the patient's pain was measured by 100 mm Visual Analog Scale (VAS). For diagnosis the rib fracture, we conducted the radiography, computed tomography (CT), and bone scan. Results: After treatment, pain intensity was decreased and the rib fracture was negative in radiography and CT. But, in bone scan, the 5th-8th rib fractures in left side were detected. Conclusions: When the patient with chest pain visit the hospital after chuna therapy, a doctor keep in mind the possibility of coughinduced rib fracture.

Methods : Between 27th march 2014 and 15th April 2014, he was treated with acupuncture, cupping, electro-acupuncture and chuna therapy every day and observed by visual analogue scale and assessment about number of pain site and square of pain. Results : After treated by using above treatment, VAS and assessment about number of pain site and square of pain were improved. Conclusions : Chuna therapy and other Traditional Korean medicine treatment are estimated to be good for fibromyalgia. But more cases are required to prove the effectiveness of chuna therapy on fibromyalgia.

  • Objectives: This report of three cases illustrates the potential effect of chuna therapy and myofascial release technique on back pain and curve regression in the at-risk, skeletally immature patient with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Methods: The correction program for scoliosis takes 3 month per case. Chuna Therapy and MRT were given once a week and other oriental medicine care was given twice a week to care the complications of scoliosis. The Cobb's angle(by X-ray, Full spine view) and Visual analogue scale(VAS) were evaluated before and after the treatments. Results: After the program, both of Cobb's angle and VAS decreased. Conclusion: Though it is a case report, we found Chuna Therapy and MRT might have valid effect on adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients. Further rigorous case series and controlled trials are warranted.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of foot orthosis and Korean Medicine therapy including Chuna on symptom that accompany scoliosis by observing one clinical case study. Methods : One patient suffer sole pain and numbness that accompany scoliosis who received outpatient treatment was investigated for the changes in numerical rating scale(NRS), pelvic height and pelvic angle. Pelvic height and angle were checked by using Whole spine X-ray. During outpatient treatment, patient treated by foot orthosis and Korean Medicine therapy including Chuna. Results : After 7 times treatment, NRS showed a remarkable difference, which decreased from 7 to 1. Pelvic height decreased from 11.16mm to 8.58mm and pelvic angle decreased from $5.03^{\circ}$ to $3.16^{\circ}$. They showed a slight difference. Conclusions : Foot orthosis and Korean Medicine therapy including Chuna might be effective in the patient that showed symptoms which is caused by scoliosis.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate clinical effects of Chuna treatment on the neck pain patient with hypolordotic cervical spine. Methods: From June 2006 to August 2006, 20 cases of neck pain patient with hypolordotic cervical spine were divided into 2 groups. Control group(n=10) was treated only acupuncture therapy, and sample group(n=10) was treated Chuna after acupuncture therapy same as control group. Degrees of pain were measured with Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), and the change of cervical curvature was assessed Depth of cervical curve, Method of Jochumsen, and Angle of cervical curve. Results: 1. After 3th and 5th treatment, there was statistical significance between control and sample group in VAS. 2. After 5th treatment, there was not statistical significance between control and sample group in Depth of cervical curve, Method of Jochumsen, and Angle of cervical curve. Conclusions: On treating the neck pain patient with hypolordotic cervical spine, Chuna treatment is more effective than only acupuncture therapy in reducing neck pain, but Chuna treatment for short-term is not more effective than only acupuncture therapy in restoring cervical curvature.

  • Objectives : To introduce the Jeongham Therapy which means a mandibul-rectifying treatment. And to show meaningful changes of thoracic kypkosis and lumbar lordosis by the Jeongham Therapy. Methods : We reviewed 8 patients having abnormal thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis who were treated at the JeongHam Korean Medical Clinic. We measured thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis by 3D Body Analyzer 'IBS 2000'. Results : Between before and after the Jeongham Therapy, statically significant differences were found in the thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis. And in these values of measurements, the thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis diminish after the Jeongham Therapy. Conclusion : These results suggest that the Jeongham Therapy is a meaningful therapy to diminish the thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis.

  • Objectives This systematic review aimed to provide evidence of the effectiveness and safety of manual therapy for asthma in children and adolescents. Methods We queried eight electronic databases (PubMed, Ovid-MEDLINE, EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, CNKI, ScienceON, KISS, and RISS) up to the end of April 2022. We included only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating manual therapy for the treatment of asthma in children and adolescents. The methodological quality of the included RCTs was evaluated using the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool 1.0. Results Four RCTs were eligible for inclusion. Meta-analysis could not be performed due to the heterogeneity of the studies. One study showed the statistical significance of SMD 0.41 (95% CI: 0.06, 0.76, p<0.05) in the comparison with the osteopathic therapy group and the sham control group before and after treatment on the same day of peak expiratory flow. Conclusions This possibility was observed in a non-pharmacological approach to manual therapy. Manual therapy can be considered as an adjunct therapy for asthma treatment in children and adolescents who have difficulty with drug therapy.
