  • In this paper, downlink capacity of time duplex division (TDD) based cellular wireless networks utilizing fixed hopping stations is investigated. In the network, a number of fixed subscriber stations act as hopping transmission stations between base stations and far away subscribers, forming a cellular and ad hoc mobile network model. At the radio layer, TDD code division multiple access (CDMA) is selected as the radio interface due to high efficiency of frequency usage. In order to improve the system performance in terms of downlink capacity, we propose different time slot allocation schemes with the usage of fixed hopping stations, which can be selected by either random or distanced dependent schemes. Performance results obtained by computer simulation demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed network to improve downlink system capacity.

  • In this paper, the reverse-link performance of synchronous DS-CDMA cellular networks is investigated in Rician multipath fading environments. The system's performance is evaluated in terms of the achievable average bit error rate BER) and the user capacities of two different network layouts, namely those of a uniform grid of hexagonal multiple cells and a single isolated cell. In the multiple-cell scenario, the impact of the other cells' interference on the attainable capacity of the synchronous DS-CDMA uplink is investigated. Upon comparing both networks to a conventional asynchronous CDMA system, we demonstrate an achievable user capacity gain of $25\%$ to $56\%$ for synchronous uplink transmissions over that of the corresponding asynchronous transmission scenario at BER = $10^{-3}$.

  • In this paper, the reverse link performance of imperfect power controlled cdma2000 cellular system that using array at a base station is analyzed, when MCGM beamforming algorithm and power control error is considered in shadowing. The blocking probability of the cdma2000 cellular system based on array parameters, E$\_$b//N$\_$0/ and interference statistics is calculated, and then the system capacity is calculated at a specific blocking probability. When the blocking probability is set 1 %, PCE(power control error) is 2 dB, M=2, 4, 8, 10, the capacity of cdma2000 is increased 2.3 ∼ 2.5 times higher than IS-95.

  • We developed a base station modulator ASIC for CDMA digital cellular system. In CDMA digital cellular system, the modulation is performed by convolutional encoding and QPSK with spread spectrum. The function blocks of base station modulator are CRC, convolutional encoder, interleaver pseudo-moise scrambler, power control bit puncturing, walsh cover, QPSK, gain controller, combiner and multiplexer. Each function block was designed by the logic synthesis of VHDL codes. The VHDL code was described at register transfer level and the size of code is about 8,000 lines. The circuit simulation and logic simulation were performed by COMPASS tools. The chip (ES-C2212B CMB) contains 25,205 gates and 3 Kbit SRAM, and its chip size is 5.25 mm * 5,45 mm in 0.8 mm CMOS cell-based design technology. It is packaged in 68 pin PLCC and the power dissipation at 10MHz is 300 mW at 5V. The ASIC has been fully tested and successfully working on the CDMA base station system.

  • A CDMA-based cellular mobile telecommunication system has already been developed and is expected to provide more stable mobile communication services for much more users than traditional analog mobile systems. As a natural course of development, the CDMA mobile system is expected to provide ISDN services in the near future. In this paper, we analyze several traffic control policies for the voice-data integrated traffic in the cellular CDMA system. We first select four admission control policies which take differences in traffic and QOS characteristics between voice and data into account, and then develop modelling and analysis techniques, which can be used directly to analyze the chosen control policies. Our approach is based on so-called threshold model. Numerical computation results obtained under the typical traffic situation are also given. Through these computation results we could tentatively conclude that the cutoff priority policy, which can provide the priority for handoff voice cells while effectively utilizing unused channels, seems to be most effective among the four policies.

  • The MC-CDMA(multi-carrier code division multiple access) technique is known to be appropriate for high data-rate wireless communications such as mobile multimedia communication due to its robustness to multipath fading and its capability of handing high data rates with a simple one-tap equalizer. In this paepr, the performance of a MC-CDMA cellular system employing antenna arrays at the based station in a fading channel is presented. It is whown that the interference from other users within the cell can be significantly reduced for both reverse link (mobile to base station) and forward link (base station to mobile) using a MC-CDMA with antenna arrays, thus incresig the system's user-capacity. Computer simulations that demonstrate user-capacity improvement of the proposed approach are discussed.

  • Some receiver(and most transmit) beamforming algorithms with an array antenna at a cellular CDMA base stations require accurate internal and external calibrations. The external calibration, which usually needs to be done only once, determines the array manifolds, i.e. the complex response of each antenna as a function of DOA(Directions of Arrival). The internal calibrations are necessary because characteristics of RF/IF circuity of each receiver chain vary differently in response to temperature or humidity changes. We propose an iterative subspace-based calibration algorithm for an asynchronous CDMA-based antenna away in the presence of unknown gain and phase error is presented. We verify the subspace-based calibration algorithms by performing the experiment using measured data. Also, we propose an efficient algorithm using the simulated annealing technique. This algorithm overcomes the problem of the initial guessing in the subspace-based approach.

  • The design of LAI(Local Area Identifier), the first paging area for searching the mobile terminal has a close relation with the performance of paging channel in CDMA cellular network. This paper discusses the performance of the forward channel of IS-95 CDMA standard, known as the paging through the related messages such as call control message, channel assignment message. Modeling and simulation work were conducted to quantify the performance of paging channel in terms of traffic handling capacity and blocking levels. This result serves as illustrative guidelines for the proper engineering of common control channel, which has a major impact on the overall performance of cellular network.

  • In this paper, we analyze the effect of co-channel interferers coming from other systems with composite log-normal shadowing and Nakagami fading on the capacity of the imperfect power-controlled DS/CDMA cellular system. The analytical results are compared with the results of Prasad and Jansen in which they derive the result under the condition of imperfect power-control of DS/CDMA system and without considering interference. And the outage probability is calculated fro the effect of the log-normal/Nakagami faded inferers on DS/CDMA system using Schwartz and Yeh's method. With the deviation of outage probability, we analyzed the decreases in the capacity of DS/CDMA system with the variation of the paramenters of the imperfect power-control, the fadig index, the processing gain, the power ratio, the voice activity factor, and the number of interferers. Analysis reuslts have shown that the capacity of DS/CDMA system is very sensitive to the imperfect power-control and the number of interferers. It is shown that the DS/CDMA system capacity decreased according to increase of the deviation of the impertect power-control, the increase of the fading, and the increase of interferer number.
