  • The CDMA digital cellular systems provide better voice Quality than analog systems, however there exists inherent delays due to speech coding and transmission processing, which brings echoes returned by the BSC and PSTN interface. In this paper, we show the performance improvement of a proposed echo canceller by real time implementation, where Block Update NLMS algorithm is applied into the TMS320C54X DSP. By applying the proposed method into the practical mobile phone, we verify that various types of echoes (LE, ESE, AE) may be removed more precisely. We also cope with echo path change resulting from change of delay length after taking VAD to find echo path delay.

  • Recently, the demand of mobile communication is rapidly increasing. Also, not only the voice service but also the nonvoice services such as data, FAX, and image service are required. Therefore, in this paper, the voice/data intergraed service methods that will be utilized as a basic core technology of the PCS systems are proposed and their performances are analyzed and compared by computer simulation. According to the simulation results, it could be seen that the performance of voice/data integrated PR-CDMA method is better than that of voice/data integrated broadband CDMA method using a dedicated terminal or a voice/data integrated terminal. The reason is that the voice/data integrated PR-CDMA method can overcome the weak points of CDMA protocol, such as a limitation of the fixed CDMA logical channel number and a falling-off in channel utilization, by using PRMA protocol as a multiple access method that the terminals to which a CDMA logical channel is assigned compete.

  • Telematics, which is a compound word of a telecommunication and informatics, provides drivers with useful driving information such as driving path guidance, accident or robbery detection, traffic conditions and other valuable data at real time. This paper proposes and implements how to build a telematics terminal equipped with CDMA and GPS running embedded Linux, to check a vehicle's state through communication between telematics server and vehicle terminals using a cellular phone and to control a vehicle using SMS as shown in Figure 1. In order to do this, we use the SK-VM platform which is mobile terminal platform based on JAVA to design, implement and evaluate it.

  • An analytical of throughput and delay on reverse link in a cellular slotted CDMA system with integrated voice and World Wide Web (WWW) traffic is presented in this paper. Our results show that the Gaussian approximation it was found that the voice traffic can have a significant impact on the WWW traffic. It was also found that the different mobiles velocity and number of resolvable paths is impact each other the system performance.

  • There has been a growing need for increased capacity in cellular systems. This has resulted in the adoption of the code division multiple access (CDMA) system as a multiple channel access method. Thus, it is important to obtain the phase offsets of binary codes in the CDMA system because distinct phase offsets of the same code are used to distinguish signals received at the mobile station from different base stations. This letter proposes an efficient algorithm to compute the phase offset of a binary code in the CDMA system through the use of the basic facts of number theory and a new notion of the subcodes of a given code. We also formulate the algorithm in a compact form.

  • In earlier works on transmitter power control in cellular radio systems, the problem of whether a signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) threshold is achievable is determined by apparently different rules for homogeneous and heterogeneous SIR systems. In this paper, we present a unified and more universal framework for both cases. We also highlight the conditions under which a given SIR threshold vector for the heterogeneous SIR system is achievable, although so far there is no general solution to this problem.

  • In this paper, we analyze the probability of soft handoff and hard handoff which served in DS-CDMA cellular system, and propose a new handoff control scheme. The object of proposed scheme is to reduce the hard handoff probability of delay sensitive calls which are very sensitive to transmission errors. In this scheme, if soft handoff is not possible, for a delay sensitive call, a delay insensitive call using the same frequency channel that a handoff call is using is handed off to one of other frequency channels and the traffic channel released by delay insensitive call's handoff is assigned to a delay sensitive call for soft handoff. A performance of the proposed scheme was evaluated through computer simulation.

  • Cell Capacity and cell layout are strongly dependent on the up-link interference caused by out-of-cell mobiles. Accurate prediction of the propagation path loss from out-of-cell mobiles is essential to achieve system designs that minimize the infrastructure required for a given quality of service (QOS). Less accurate predictions can be expected to yield designs requiring the use of a greater number of base stations. In order to quantify the dependence of infrastructure on prediction accuracy, this paper considers the cellular systems, LOS (line of sight) cells along a road or highway.

  • Placing antennas of low power base stations below surrounding buildings, as in urban microcells, makes propagation characteristics strongly dependent on the building environment. As a result, propagation in these urban microcells is non-isotropic, so that the assumption of circular cells used in planning of conventional cellular sys toms is no longer valid. Assuming circular cells leads to a more conservative system design, implying more base stations. This work investigates the effect of cell shape, due to non-isotropic propagation, on the out-of-cell interference and Erlang capacity of CDMA system. Propagation is described by measurement derived models for low antennas in a rectangular urban street grid. The analysis is done for soft handoff protocols.
