Manganese (Mn) exists in various oxidation states and Mn(II) is the most mobile species of Mn, which is toxic to plants and limits their growth. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to reduce Mn toxicity by immobilizing Mn using various adsorbents including iron oxides and calcium compounds. Ferrihydrite, schwertmannite, goethite were synthesized, which was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Hematite was purchased and used as Mn adsorbent. Calcium compounds such as CaNO3, CaSO4, and CaCO3 were used to increase pH and oxidize Mn. For Mn adsorption, Mn(II) solution was reacted with four iron oxides, CaNO3, CaSO4, and CaCO3 for 24 hours, filtered, and the remaining Mn concentrations in the solution were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy. The adsorption rate and adsorption isotherm were calculated. Among iron oxides, the adsorption rate was highest for hematite followed by ferrihyrite, but goethite and schwertmannite did not adsorb Mn. In the case of calcium compounds, the adsorption rate was high in the order of CaCO3>CaNO3>CaSO4. In conclusion, treatment of CaCO3 was the most effective in reducing Mn toxicity by increasing pH.
Calcium carbonate ($CaCO_3$) immobilized with alginate was studied as buffer system to enhance the cultivation efficiency of Bifidobacterium longum (ATCC 15707) which is inhibited at low pH. To test the bufferring effect of the immobilized $CaCO_3$ beads, pH value in each modified trypticase-proteose peptone-yeast (TPY) broth which is adjusted to pH 4.0 with acetic acid, lactic acid and complex solution of acetic and lactic acid, 3:2 (M:M) was tested by concentration of $CaCO_3$ bead and reaction time. The bufferring effect of $CaCO_3$ bead became higher with increasing the amount of $CaCO_3$ bead in the acidic solution. The growth rate of bifidobacteria and bufferring effect were examined in relation to the amount of $CaCO_3$ bead and concentration of glucose in the modified TPY media. The growth rate of bifidobacteria and bufferring effect were increased with increasing the amount of $CaCO_3$ bead and concentration of glucose. Also, the exponential time of bifidobacteria became longer with increasing the amount of $CaCO_3$ bead and concentration of glucose in the modified TPY media. When we observed the growth rate of bifidobacteria by the method of pH-controlled culture and $CaCO_3$ buffer system, the $CaCO_3$ buffer system was more effective than that of pH-controlled culture. Therefore, this $CaCO_3$ buffer system may be useful as a method to enhance of the cultivation efficiency of bifidobacteria.
The electrolysis of tungstic oxide dissolved in the bath of calcium chloride and calcium oxide was studied to produce metallic tungsten using carbon as anode and iron as cathode in the temperature range of 900^{\circ}$ to $1200^{\circ}C$. The binary phase diagrams $CaCl_2$-CaO and $CaCl_2-CaWO_4$ systems were constructed to determine the suitability of bath composition and the range of temperatures for the electrolysis. As $WO_3$ reacted with $CaCl_2$ to form oxychloride in the fused salt, the addition of the proper amount of CaO was necessary to avoid the loss of $WO_3$. The optimum compositions of fused bath were $CaCl_2$ 100 parts, CaO and $WO_3$ each 10 to 20 parts, with the CaO, $WO_3$ ratio greater than unity, to keep freezing point low and to prevent the vaporization of $CaCl_2$. The observed decomposition voltage at which $WO_3$ decomposes to W and CO was-0.1 volt, whereas the calculated was -0.3 volt. Metallic tungsten deposited at the cathode reacted easily with CO formed secondarily at the anode surface, to form WC below $1050^{\circ}C$, so that the cell temperature should be above $1050^{\circ}C$. The effects of cathode current densities on current efficiency were minor in the range of 1 to 5 $amp/cm^2$.
Objective: The present research was conducted to evaluate the interactive effect of dietary concentration of calcium (Ca) and 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 (25OHD3) on the performance, blood composition and digestibility of laying hens. Methods: A total of 540 Hy-line brown laying hens aged 61 to 70 weeks were randomly allotted in a 3×3 factorial arrangement, consisting of three levels of 25OHD3 (0, 25, and 50 ㎍/kg) and three levels of Ca (3.5%, 4.0%, and 4.5%). All diets had basal concentration of 3,000 IU/kg of vitamin D3 including the 2,800 kcal/kg of metabolic energy and 16% of crude protein. Results: The results showed that interactive effect (p<0.05) between Ca and 25OHD3 was such that dietary 25OHD3 linearly increased interleukin-6 at all levels of Ca inclusion. Interaction (p<0.05) occurred with the highest parathyroid hormone in laying hens that received dietary concentration of Ca (3.5%) with 25OHD3 (50 ㎍/kg), and Ca (4.0%) with 25OHD3 (50 ㎍/kg). Egg production and egg weight significantly (p<0.05) increased in the 4.5% Ca group compared to the 3.5% to 4.0% Ca groups. Egg shell thickness and tibia bone length also increased (p<0.05) in groups fed a high-Ca diet (4.0% to 4.5%). Phosphorus digestibility significantly (p<0.05) increased along with dietary Ca level. Among the tested 25OHD3 groups, higher (p<0.05) egg production and tibia thickness were present in hens fed 50 ㎍/kg of 25OHD3. Furthermore, Ca digestibility serum Ca and 25OHD3 were significantly increased in group offered 50 ㎍/kg of 25OHD3. Conclusion: The results gathered in this study indicate that dietary concentrations of 4.0% to 4.5% Ca and 50 ㎍/kg 25OHD3 improve the performance of hens from 61 to 70 weeks of age.
Microwave dielectric properties have been investigated in the$(1-x)CaTiO_3-xYAlO_3$ (x=0.1~1.0) solid solution system. The mixtures of $CaTiO_3$ and $YalO_3$using solid state method were sintered at various temperatures. Their dielectric constants and related temperature coefficients were strongly depend on the composition of the solid solution. The optimum properties were recorded as for ${\varepsilon}_r=47,$$Q{\times}f_0$=35000 and ${\tau}_f=+11ppm/^{\circ}C$ without sintering agent. Even at $1200^{\circ}C$ full densification has been achieved with addition of $CaB_2O_4$ in the $0.75CaTiO_3-0.25YalO_3$ composition. The sample of $0.3 wt%-CaB_2O_4$ added $ 0.75CaTiO_3-0.25YalO_3$ sintered at $1300^{\circ}C$ for 3 h showed optimum microwave dielectric properties of ${\varepsilon}_r=47$, $Q{\time}f_0=37000$ and ${\tau}_f=+17ppm/^{\circ}C$, which demonstrates the promising candidates for microwave dielectric materials covering 5~7 GHz range.
The structures of fully dehydrated Ca2+- and Rb+-exchanged zeolite X, Ca31Rb30Si100Al92O384(Ca31Rb30-X; a=25.009(1) Å) and Ca28Rb36Si100Al92O384(Ca28Rb36-X; a=24.977(1) Å), have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods in the cubic space group Fd&bar{3} at 21(1) ℃. Their structures were refined to the final error indices R1=0.048 and R2=0.041 with 236 reflections for Ca31Rb30-X, and R1=0.052 and R2=0.043 with 313 reflections for Ca28Rb36-X; I>3σ(I). In both structures, Ca2+ and Rb+ ions are located at six different crystallographic sites. In dehydrated Ca31Rb30-X, sixteen Ca2+ ions fill site I, at the centers of the double 6-rings (Ca-O=2.43(1) Å and O-Ca-O=93.3(3)°). Another fifteen Ca2+ ions occupy site II (Ca-O=2.29(1) Å, O-Ca-O=119.5(5)°) and fifteen Rb+ ions occupy site II opposite single six-rings in the supercage; each is 1.60 Å from the plane of three oxygens (Rb-O=2.77(1) Å and O-Rb-O=91.1(4)°). About two Rb+ ions are found at site II', 1.99 Å into sodalite cavity from their three-oxygen plane (Rb-O=2.99(1) Å and O-Rb-O=82.8(4)°). The remaining thirteen Rb+ ions are statistically distributed over site III, a 48-fold equipoint in the supercages on twofold axes (Rb-O=3.05(1) Å and Rb-O=3.38(1) Å). In dehydrated Ca28Rb36-X, sixteen Ca2+ ions fill site I (Ca-O=2.41(1) Å and O-Ca-O=93.6(3)°) and twelve Ca2+ ions occupy site II (Ca-O=2.31(1) Å, O-Ca-O=119.7(4)°). Sixteen Rb+ ions occupy site II; each is 1.60 Å from the plane of three oxygens (Rb-O=2.81(1) Å and O-Rb-O=90.6(3)°) and four Rb+ ions occupy site II'; each is 1.88 Å into sodalite cavity from their three-oxygen plane (Rb-O=2.99(1) Å and O-Rb-O=83.8(2)°). The remaining sixteen Rb+ ions are found at III site in the supercage (Rb-O=2.97(1) Å and Rb-O=3.39(1) Å). It appears that Ca2+ ions prefer sites I and II in that order, and that Rb+ ions occupy the remaining sites. Rb+ ions are too large to be stable at site I, when they are competing with other smaller cations like Ca2+ ions.

Effects on sintering and electrical properties of $La_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}Cr_{0.9}Co_{0.1}O_{3-{\delta}}$ system, a interconnect material for cylindrical and flat tubular solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), have been investigated by Ca-source when using $CaCO_3$ and $CaF_2$. When using $CaCO_3$ and $CaF_2$ was mixing as Ca-source, single phased perovskite solid solution was observed for each sample. The sintering temperature was decreased by $CaF_2$ contents was increased. When using 0.1 mole $CaF_2$ was densely sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ and relative density was 93.8%. Also, electrical conductivity in oxidation and reducing atmosphere was 47, 4.3 S/cm, respectively, due to $F^-$ ion enhance the electrical conductivity in reducing atmosphere.
The adsorption behavior of 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$-sodium gluconate-$H_2O$ system by measuring adsorp-tion isotherm DTA and IR sepctra. The adsorbed amount of sodium gluconate on 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$ is exceedingly larger than 3CaO.$SiO_2$ and portland cement. From the DAT experiment the formation of complex is observed by the characteristic exothermic peak of the complex at 45$0^{\circ}C$ It is now strong deduced that the chemical bonding between gluconate anion and 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$ should be coordinative due to the complex formation on the surface 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$ from the IR spectra of sod-ium gluconate only and 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$ -sodium gluconate-$H_2O$.
Chemical analyses and Rietveld structural refinement with powder X-ray diffraction data were done for Nb-rich perovskite, named latrappite ($Ca_2NbFe^{3+}O_6$)from the Oka, Quebec, Canada. Latrappite is shown to be a member of a continuous solid solution of $CaTiO_3-NaNbO_3-Ca_2NbFe^{3+}O_6$ and approximately $(Ca_{1.5}Na_{0.4})\;(Nb_{0.1}Ti_{0.6}Fe_{0.4})O_6$ in composition. The crystal structure of latrappite, determined by Rietveld refinement, is similar to that of perovskite ($CaTiO_3$). It differs in that replacement of Ti by Nb and $Fe^{3+}$ results in greater distortion and tilting of the $TiO_6$ framework octahedra relative to $CaTiO_3$. Revised unit-cell parameters of latrappite are a=5.4474(4), b=5.5264(4), c=7.7519(5) ${\AA},\;V=233.4(3){\AA}^3$ space group Pbnm.
This study was carried out to investigate effect of $CaCO_3$ treatment on cultivation of oyster mushroom for suppression of green mold disease and for promotion of mycelial growth to stabilize mushroom production in field and laboratory experiment. Treatment of $CaCO_3$ in PDA media promoted mycelial growth of mushroom and suppressed that of green mold. Addition of $CaCO_3$ in rice straw substrate increased mushroom mycelial growth compared with control. In that case, growth of green mold increased up to treated 0.6% $CaCO_3$ but decreased in treatment beyond 0.8% $CaCO_3$. There were some differences on effect of $CaCO_3$ treatment according to green mold species. Trichoderma longibrachiatum was effected but T. virens was not effected by treated $CaCO_3$. Differences among mushroom strains by treated $CaCO_3$ were not shown. It is confirmed that treatment of $CaCO_3$ can promote mushroom mycelial growth but it's not clear in the field. In the result of field test, treatment of $CaCO_3$ in rice straw substrates tended to increase yield and decrease incidence of disease compared with non-treatment. These results suggest that $CaCO_3$ treatment on cultivation of oyster mushroom can be applied to take preventive steps against of green mold disease.
