  • It is shown that for $A_{k, m}$ a k-homogeneous $C^*$-algebra over $S^{2n - 1} \times S^1$ such that no non-trivial matrix algebra can be factored out of $A_{k, m}$ and $A_{k, m} \otimes M_l(C)$ has a non-trivial bundle structure for any positive integer l, we construct an $A_{k, m^-} C(S^{2n - 1} \times S^1) \otimes M_k(C)$-equivalence bimodule to show that every k-homogeneous $C^*$-algebra over $S^{2n - 1} \times S^1)$. Moreover, we prove that the tensor product of the k-homogeneous $C^*$-algebra $A_{k, m}$ with a UHF-algebra of type $p^\infty$ has the tribial bundle structure if and only if the set of prime factors of k is a subset of the set of prime factors of pp.

  • Extended H ckel Theory and CNDO/2 MO calculation methods have been applied to $C_6H_5YCH_2Cl$(Y = None, -$CH_2$-, -O-, -S-, -CO-, -$SO_2$-). It has been shown that charge distributions in molecules are mainly controlled by the migration of valence inactive electron, giving the order of ${\sigma}$-acceptor and ${\pi}$-donor effects -O- > -S- > -$CH_2$- > -$SO_2$-. The -CO- group exceptionally acts as ${\sigma}$-donor and ${\pi}$-acceptor. It was also predicted that, $S_N2$ reactivities of C$C_6H_5YCH_2Cl$ would be in the order of -O-${\thickapprox}$-CO- >>-S-${\thickapprox}$None > -$CH_2$-, neglecting solvent effect. From the results of our studies, we conclude that the structural factors influencing 의 $S_N$ reactivities will be: (1) positive charge developments on reaction center carbon atom (2) energy level of ${\sigma}$-antibonding unoccupied MO with respect to C-Cl bond. (3) ${\sigma}$-antibonding strength of C-Cl bond at that level.

  • The isotope effect of pure liquid on vapor pressure is examined, and the vapor pressure ratios of two different isotopes are calculated. Based on the Significant Structure Theory of Liquids, the effect of molecular weight and the effect of moments of inertia are dominant in ordinary/trans-$d_2$ ethylene isotopes; the effect of hindered rotational zero-point energy is dominant in trans-$d_2$/cis-$d_2$ ethylene isotopes; and the effect of intermolecular potential difference is found in $CH_3OH/CH_3OD$ isotopes. In the isotopes of $CH_4/CD_4,\;SiH_4/SiD_4\;and\;GeH_4/GeD_4$, the weight effect decrease in the order of $CH_4/CD_4 >SiH_4/SiD_4 >GeH_4/GeD_4$.

  • Spin exchange interactions of $(C_2N_2H_{10})[Fe(HPO_3)F_3]$ were examined by performing a spin dimer analysis based on extended Huckel tight binding method and a mapping analysis based on first principles density functional theory. Spin exchange interactions occur through the super-superexchange paths $J_1$ and $J_2$ in $(C_2N_2H_{10})[Fe(HPO_3)F_3]$. In the super-superexchange path $J_2$ magnetic orbital interactions between eg-block levels are much stronger than those from $t_{2g}$-block levels. Both electronic structure calculations show that the spin exchange interaction through the super-superexchange path $J_2$ is much stronger than that of $J_1$.

  • Objective : The meridian theory in oriental medicine explains that each acu-point has a characteristic functional effect. It will be supposed that an acupuncture stimulation on different acu-point evokes different activation on different areas in the central nervous system(CNS) according to the meridian theory. On this supposition, our group tried the semi-quantitative [14C]2-deoxyglucose([14C]2-DG) autoradiography on the acupuncture stimulation to the hindlimb acu-points of Sprague-Dawley rats. Methods : A venous catheter for the intravenous administration of isotope was equipped in the right external jugular vein on 3 days prior to the [14C]2-DG study. On the day of the study, two acupuncture needles were inserted into the ST36(Zusanli) or LR3(Taichong) on the left hindlimb. Electro-acupuncture stimulation (2 Hz, 5 ms, 1~3 mA, 15 minutes) started just before the i.v. injection of [14C]2-DG ($25{\mu}Ci/rat$). The brain and the spinal cord were removed and processed for the [14C] 2-DG autoradiography. Results : The EA stimulation on ST36 reveals over 120% metaboilc activation in Arcuate nucleus, Anterior pretectal nucleus, Dorsal cochlear nucleus, Interposed cerebellar nucleus, and Nucleus of Darkschewitsch. The EA stimulation on LR3 reveals over 120% metaboilc activation in Lateral habenula nucleus, Medial vestibular nucleus, Ventromedial thalamic nucleus, Anteroventral thalamic nucleus, Anterior cingulate cortex, Dentate gyrus, Antero cortical amygdaloid nucleus, Anterior pretectal nucleus, and Dorsal tegmental nucleus compared with the non EA stimulation control group. Conclusion : These results demonstrate that the different acu-points evoke the different activations in brain areas. And with this functional brain mapping study, a new scientific elucidation for the basis of the acupuncture-meridian theory in oriental medicine through differences of activated area in CNS according to the each acupuncture point.

  • The extraction ratio of oil using solvent from the muscle of sardine, Sardinops melanosticta, was studied. The results were critically evaluated in the light of the theory of oil diffusion in a porous solid model. In addition the effect of temperature and moisture on the extraction rate was examined. Sardine muscle was prepared in a manner to meet the conditions required by the diffusion theory from Fick's law. The results of the model were well coincidenced to the theory derived from Fick's law. Diffusion constants at the direction to muscle fiber($D_1$) and at direction perpendicular to fiber($D_2=D_3$) when extracted at $45^{\circ}C$ were $8.16{\times}10^{-8}cm^2/sec\;and\;4.12{\times}10^{-8}cm^2/sec$, respectivly. The extraction rate was linearly propotional to absolute temperature(T) by eleventh power under the constant condition of moisture contents and muscle size. A comparison of the experiments with the highest($74.22\%$) and the lowest ($32.48\%$) moisture indicated that difference of $1\%$ in moisture contents caused to change the slope(K) of the extraction curve $0.53{\times}10^{-6}sec^{-1}$ approximately.

  • ECHO progress was defined to depict the rotordynamic pump theory development. Experience (E) era for pumps lasted nearly one and a half hundred years before the Industrial Revolution due to the low rotation speed of motor and undeveloped manufacture ability. Classic (C) theory referring to quasi-static performance as well as the items those were not able to be steadily resolved under the level were briefly and sophisticated outlined. Since 1962, flow instabilities and the dynamic responses had come into main attention with the development of the modern technologies such as ballistic missile, rocket and space shuttle main engine, and were finally heuristically (H) elucidated by talented scholars and researchers. Recently, new applications for the pumps open (O) to the surrounding fluid and diversity of the medium such as multiphase flow need more studies and some examples were briefly introduced to display the potential problems lastly.

  • A unified theory has recently been developed for reinforced concrete structures (Hsu 1993), subjected to the four basic actions - bending, axial load, shear and torsion. The theory has five components, namely, the struts-and-ties model, the equilibrium (or plasticity) truss model, the Bernoulli compatibility truss model, the Mohr compatibility truss model and the softened truss model. Because the last three models can satisfy the stress equilibrium, the strain compatibility and the constitutive laws of materials, they can predict not only the strength, but also the load-deformation history of a member. In this paper the five models are summarized to illustrate their intrinsic consistency.

  • The theoretical framework of the interaction fields for multiple scales based on field theory is applied to one-dimensional problem mimicking dislocation substructure sensitive intra-granular inhomogeneity evolution under fatigue of Cu-added steels. Three distinct scale levels corresponding respectively to the orders of (A)dislocation substructures, (B)grain size and (C)grain aggregates are set-up based on FE-RKPM (reproducing kernel particle method) based interpolated strain distribution to obtain the incompatibility term in the interaction field. Comparisons between analytical conditions with and without the interaction, and that among different cell size in the scale A are simulated. The effect of interaction field on the B-scale field evolution is extensively examined. Finer and larger fluctuation is demonstrated to be obtained by taking account of the field interactions. Finer cell size exhibits larger field fluctuation whereas the coarse cell size yields negligible interaction effects.
