An Improvement on Target Costing Technique

  • The target costing technique, mathematically discussed by Sauers, only uses the $C_p index along with Taguchi loss function and $\bar{X}$-P control charts to setup goal control limits. The new specification limits derived from Taguchi loss function is linked through the $C_p value to $\bar{X}$-P control charts to obtain goal control limits. Studies have shown that the point estimator of the $C_p index, $C_p, could vary from time to time due to the sampling error. The suggested approach is to use confidence intervals, especially the lower confidence intervals, to replace the point estimator. Therefore, an improvement on target costing technique is presented by applying the lower confidence interval of the $C_p index and using both Taguchi and Spiring's loss functions together with $\bar{X}$-P charts to make this technique more robust in practice. An example is also provided to illustrate how the improved target costing technique works.

  • Let C be a nonsingular projective curve of genus ${\geq}2$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. For a point P in C, the Weierstrass semigroup H(P) is defined as the set of non-negative integers n for which there exists a rational function f on C such that the order of the pole of f at P is equal to n, and f is regular away from P. A point P in C is referred to as a weak Galois-Weierstrass point if P is a Weierstrass point and there exists a Galois morphism ${\varphi}:C{\rightarrow}{\mathbb{p}}^1$ such that P is a total ramification point of ${\varphi}$. In this paper, we investigate the number of weak Galois-Weierstrass points of which the Weierstrass semigroups are generated by two positive integers.

COMMON FIXED POINT THEOREMS FOR TWO SELF MAPS SATISFYING ξ-WEAKLY EXPANSIVE MAPPINGS IN DISLOCATED METRIC SPACE

  • In this article, we shall prove a common fixed point theorem for two weakly compatible self-maps 𝒫 and 𝔔 on a dislocated metric space (M, d*) satisfying the following ξ-weakly expansive condition: d*(𝒫c, 𝒫d) ≥ d* (𝔔c, 𝔔d) + ξ(∧(𝔔c, 𝔔d)), ∀ c, d ∈ M, where $${\wedge}(Qc,\;Qd)=max\{d^*(Qc,\;Qd),\;d^*(Qc,\;\mathcal{P}c),\;d^*(Qd,\;\mathcal{P}d),\;\frac{d^*(Qc,\;\mathcal{P}c){\cdot}d^*(Qd,\;\mathcal{P}d)}{1+d^*(Qc,\;Qd)},\;\frac{d^*(Qc,\;\mathcal{P}c){\cdot}d^*(Qd,\;\mathcal{P}d)}{1+d^*(\mathcal{P}c,\;\mathcal{P}d)}\}$$. Also, we have proved common fixed point theorems for the above mentioned weakly compatible self-maps along with E.A. property and (CLR) property. An illustrative example is also provided to support our results.

Biochemical Characteristics of the Granulosis Viruses DNA of Common Cabbage Worm, Pieris rapae and Pieris brassicae (배추흰나비 과립병바이러스 DNA의 생화학적 특성)

  • This study was carried out to acquire some basic biochemical informations on the granulosis virus (GV) DNA of Pieris rapae and Pieris brassicae. The thermal denaturation temperature (Tm) and G+C content of the DNA of the viruses were $83.7^{\circ}C$ and 35.5% for P. rapae GV, $84.0^{\circ}C$ and 35.9% for P. brassicae GV, respectively. There were some differences in the DNA fragmentation patterns of the two GV's produced by digestion with restriction endonucleases such as EcoR I , BamH I and Hind m . The homololgy between the two DNAs was caculated to be 97.0%. The size of the genome was estimated to be 103 kbp for P. rapae GV and 108 kbp for P. brassicae GV.

Purification and Characterization of the Overproduced E. coli Endochitinase (과량 생산된 대장균 chitin 분해효소의 정제 및 특성 조사)

  • The putative endochitinase gene, yheB of Escherichia coli K-12 is not expressed under lab culture conditions. The endochitinase gene was amplified by PCR and subcloned into pET28c vector and pQE9 vector, respectively. The endochitinase produced in E. coli harboring pET28c containing yheB or pQE9 vector containing yheE was partly released into the growth medium. The overproduced endochitinase was partially purified by His affinity column chromatography and DE-52 column chromatography. The apparent molecular weight of the endochitinase determined by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis was about 97,000. The purified E. coli endochitinase showed maximal chitinolytic activity at pH 6 and $40^{\circ}C$.

Occurrence of Tn3 Sequence Upstream of aacC2 Gene in Gentamicin Resistance R Plasmids (Gentamicin 저항성 R 플라스미드에 존재하는 aacC2 유전자의 상류부위에서 Tn3의 출현)

  • Two gentamicin resistance R plasmids, pGM5 and pGM6, containing aacC2 gene were selected from environmental isolates. The gentamicin resistance determinants of R plasmids were cloned into the BamHI site of pUC18. Restriction enzyme map of inserted region of recombinant plasmids, pSYS and pSY6, and PCR results indicated that Tn3 sequence was located upstream of gentamicin resistance gene. Based on the restriction maps and susceptibility tests, it was concluded that the sequence of bla and 3' inverted repeat of Tn3 play a important roles in the expression of gentamicin resistance gene.

  • In this paper, a boundary version of the Schwarz lemma is investigated. We take into consideration a function $f(z)=z+c_{p+1}z^{p+1}+c_{p+2}z^{p+2}+{\cdots}$ holomorphic in the unit disc and $\|\frac{f(z)}{{\lambda}f(z)+(1-{\lambda})z}-{\alpha}\|$ < ${\alpha}$ for ${\mid}z{\mid}$ < 1, where $\frac{1}{2}$ < ${\alpha}$ ${\leq}{\frac{1}{1+{\lambda}}}$, $0{\leq}{\lambda}$ < 1. If we know the second and the third coefficient in the expansion of the function $f(z)=z+c_{p+1}z^{p+1}+c_{p+2}z^{p+2}+{\cdots}$, then we can obtain more general results on the angular derivatives of certain holomorphic function on the unit disc at boundary by taking into account $c_{p+1}$, $c_{p+2}$ and zeros of f(z) - z. We obtain a sharp lower bound of ${\mid}f^{\prime}(b){\mid}$ at the point b, where ${\mid}b{\mid}=1$.

Detection of p53 Mutation in Colorectal Cancer Using PCR-SSCP and DHPLC (대장암에서 PCR-SSCP와 DHPLC를 이용한 p53 돌연변이의 검출)

  • Structural alteration of p53 and overexpression of p53 protein are the most common genetic abnormalities in various kinds of human cancer. Mutations in the p53 tumor-suppressor gene are usually associated with an advanced development of colorectal cancer characterized by the transition from the adenoma to carcinoma stage. Mutations in exons 5-8 of the p53 gene were analyzed by the polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism(PCR-SSCP) and denaturing high performance liquid chromatography(DHPLC). SSCP analysis detected 7 mutations(C13109>T) in 50 colorectal cancer samples(14%) at exon 5, and DHPLC analysis detected 7 mutations (C13109>T) and 2 mutation(C13202>A, C13204>G) in 50 colorectal cancer samples(18%) at exon 5. All of 9 mutations were proved by sequencing analysis. We conclude that DHPLC is a highly sensitive and specific method for p53 gene mutations.

The Change of the Important Blood Factors According to the Recovery of Motor Function with Ischemic Stroke Patients (허혈성 뇌졸중 환자의 운동기능회복에 따른 중요 혈액인자들의 변화)

  • Background: This study had been carried out with 18 ischemic stroke patients as its object for about eight months from October, 2006 to May, 2007 in order to observe the recovery of motor function and the change of important blood factors according to the different quantitative exercises. Methods: Subjects were assigned randomly either experimental group (n=19) or the control group (n=19), when the study began the halfway on this study dropout 20 patients, and final subjects remained experimental group's 9 patients and control group's 9 patients. Both groups received thermotherapy and functional electrical stimulation (FES), also taken different quantitative exercise therapy (experimental group 180 minutes, control group 80 minutes). Subjects were assessed for upper and lower extremities motor function Fugl-Meyer Scale; FMS), blood test (white blood count; WBC, low density lipoprotein -cholesterol; LDL-C, high density lipoprotein-cholesterol; HDL-C, Troponin) during pretest, after 2 months, after 3 months. Results: The results of this study were as follows; 1. FMS has no statistically significant difference with intergroup(p>.05). But there was a statistically significant difference with each groups (p<.05). 2. WBC has no statistically significant difference with intergroup (p>.05). But there was a statistically significant difference in control group (p<.05), without experimental group (p>.05). 3. LDL-C has no statistically significant difference with intergroup (p>.05). But there was a statistically significant difference in control group (p<.05), without experimental group (p>.05). 4. HDL-C has no statistically significant difference with intergroup (p<.05). But there was a statistically significant difference with each groups (p>.05). 5. Troponin Ⅰ has no statistically significant difference with intergroup (p>.05). Also there was no statistically significant difference with each groups (p>.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that different quantitative exercises has no effect on FMS, LDL-C, HDL-C, WBC, Troponin Ⅰ with ischemic stroke patients. But the treatment period that there's less correlation between the recovery of motor function and the different quantitative exercise, also less correlation between the change of important blood factors and the different quantitative exercises with ischemic stroke patients.

A Study on Hyperlipidemia in Koran -Specially Related to Hematological Characteristics and Risk Factors of Hypercholesterolemia- (한국인의 고지혈증에 관한 연구 -고콜레스테롤혈증 소견자의 혈액학적 특성과 위험인자를 중심으로-)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the hematological characteristics and risk factors of hypercholesterolemia(HC) in Korean. 344 adult men who took the annual health check ups at D or J hospitals were participated in this cross sectional study. The subjects were grouped by plasma total cholesterol level into three groups: normal cholesterolemic(n=139), borderline hypercholesterolemic (n=93) and hypercholesterolemic(n=112) groups. The data of systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP/DBP), hemoglobin, plasma glucose, albumin and cholesterol levels were collected from medical records. The levels of plasma triglyceride(TG), HDL C, phospholipid, insulin, apo A and apo B were measured. The levels of plasma LDL C, VLDL C and atherogenic index(AI) were calculated. The subjects with HC had significantly higher SBP and DBP, albumin, TG, phospholipid, HDL C, LDL C, VLDL C and apo B level than those of the normal subjects. The relative and attributable risks on HC were 1.59 and 0.18 for hypertension(SBP/DBP$\geq$160/95), 2.08 and 0.35 for hypertriglyceridemia (TG $\geq$400mg/dl). Plasma total cholesterol level was positively correlated with several hematologic parameters: age(r=0.1242, p<0.05), DBP(r=0.1194, p<0.05), albumin(r=0.2029, p<0.001), plasma TG(r= 0.3829, p<0.001), phospholipid(r=0.6036, p<0.001), LDL C(r=0.8572, p<0.001), HDL C(r=0.2399, p< 0.001), AI(r=0.3116, p<0.001), apo B(r=0.2602, p<0.05) and Lp(a)(r=0.1372, p<0.05). However, plasma total cholesterol level was negatively correlated with the levels of Apo A1(r= 0.2922, p<0.001), and ABR(r= 0.3598, p<0.001).
