A New Conceptual Framework for Designing Cloud Computing Business Model (클라우드 컴퓨팅 비즈니스 모델 개발을 위한 프레임워크 설계)

  • In this paper, we develop a new conceptual framework for finding new business opportunities in the cloud computing environment. We propose a service model framework for cloud computing business. In the service concept of the proposed business model, we categorize customer needs and service offering value, while we analyze customer behavior for developing revenue model. In addition, we analyze cloud computing market drivers for finding an evolution path of the proposed business model. Finally, we develop cloud computing business strategies for Korean IT service industry.

  • This paper develops a business model analysis framework and suggests a step-wise approach to the exploration of new business models. Three generic business model components, Value Change Model, Value Connection Model, and Value Complement Model, are identified based on their value propositions, and a composite of them, called Value Combination Model, is proposed. In order to integrate various value propositions from these business models, a business model analysis framework is also suggested. In order to test its real-world applicability, a case study is performed on the WLAN services and the effectiveness of the framework as a business model analysis tool is demonstrated.

  • The focus of enterprise collaboration of supply chain management, has changed from integrating and exchanging business information to integrating and managing business processes between business partners. However, the collaboration is difficult due to the inherent complexity such as diverse business processes and dynamic business environments. To settle these problems, a reference model based enterprise architecture framework for the collaboration of supply chains is proposed in this paper. The supply chain collaboration framework is composed of three reference models capturing the different views of supply chain collaboration: supply process reference model, service component reference model, and technology and standard reference model. As the framework adapts the OMG's metadata architecture, the processes in the supply chain can be extended and integrated with other value chains, such as design chains, when it is necessary. Using the proposed framework, business managers can rapidly integrate and manage their business processes with their suppliers and customers.

  • Since the emergence of the Internet, electronic business (e-business) has become one of the most widely investigated issues. E-business is considered to have the potential of generating considerable new values and the capability to transform the rules of competition in unprecedented ways. This study aim to suggest a approach for new business idea creation. This is based on the analysis and manipulation of business method patents. For this end, our research is performed in the following ways. First, business keywords are extracted from business method patents. Second, business model framework which is used to structuralize the business is suggested based on the literature survey. Third, the business keywords are classified into the business model framework. Forth, existing business model is expressed based on the suggested framework. Finally, new business idea is created from the existing business model by adding, subtracting, or substituting the business keywords.

  • In this paper, we argue that characteristics of ubiquitous business are different from those of e-business or m-business. We have developed a u-business model development framework incorporating the concept of value co-creation experiences, which is a core of the ubiquitous business paradigm. The framework of u-business model development presented in this paper consists of eight steps such as defining of domain, discovery of opportunity nucleus, defining of potential co-creation experience environment, deriving candidates of u-business services, selecting u-business killer services, defining value propositions of u-business killer services, defining u-business killer service offerings, and drawing a resource map of u-business killer services. The proposed u-business model development framework offers useful guidelines for practitioners to develop successful u-business models under a ubiquitous business paradigm.

Establishment and Application of a Comprehensive Business Model Framework : Focusing on Healthcare Business Models (포괄적 비즈니스 모델 프레임워크 구축 및 적용 : 헬스케어 비즈니스 모델을 중심으로)

  • A business model (BM) can be developed based on a business model framework (BMF) consisting of key components such as value proposition, customers, and resources. To systematically generate and analyze emerging BMs such as healthcare BM, an integration of diverse BMF components is needed. The present study is to establish a comprehensive BMF and evaluate its applicability to healthcare BMs. Based on a review of eight BMF studies, ten BMF components were identified and classified into five major components (value proposition, resources, organizing model, customers, and revenue model) and five minor components (technology, service platform, delivery, competitive strategy, and growth/exit) by analyses of frequency and functional importance. Lastly, the BMs of three emerging healthcare companies (WellDoc, Inc., CFW Shops, and Aravind Eye Care System) were analyzed and compared in terms of the proposed BMF components. The comprehensive BMF components presented in the study can be of help for developing new BMs and analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of BMs.

  • Cloud computing, which means a new way of deploying information technology(IT) in organizations as a service and charging per use, has a deep impact on organizations' IT accessibility, agility and efficiency of its usage. More than that, the emergence of cloud computing surpasses a mere technological innovation, making business model innovation possible. We call this innovation realized by could computing a cloud business model. This study develops a comprehensive framework of business model, first, and then defines and analyzes the cloud business model through this framework. This study also examines the case of M-Pesa mobile payment as a cloud business model in which a new value creation and profit realization schemes have been realized and industry value network has changed. Finally, this study discusses the business implications from this new business model.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to present a framework for determining the most appropriate business model for e-learning. Research design, data, and methodology - The Electronics Branch of Azad University has been elected as a case study in this research. This study conducted using a descriptive method. The information was obtained using interviews with experts including managers, faculty and students at the Electronics Branch of Azad University. Results - Three service-product system (product oriented system, use an oriented and result oriented system) approaches determined a framework for the formation of a portfolio. This portfolio is including three types of e-learning business models. Examining the relevant characteristics, correspondence of behaviorism learning theory with a product-oriented approach, correspondence of cognitivism theory with a user-oriented approach and in finally match correspondence of constructivist learning theory with a results-oriented approach which is evident. Conclusions - After reviewing the literature on the fields of e-learning, business model and product - service systems, we have achieved three types of e-learning business models. Then the variables in any of the business models were defined by using business model canvas tool and thus a portfolio consisting of three types of e-learning business model canvas was obtained.

  • This paper presents an idea and framework to automate a full cycle business process management and re-engineering by integrating traditional business process management systems, process mining, data mining, machine learning, and simulation. We build our framework on the cloud-based platform such that various data sources can be incorporated. We design our systems to be extensible so that not only beneficial for practitioners of BPM, but also for researchers. Our framework can be used as a test bed for researchers without the complication of system integration. The automation of redesigning phase and selecting a baseline process model for deployment are the two main contributions of this study. In the redesigning phase, we deal with both the analysis of the existing process model and what-if analysis on how to improve the process at the same time, Additionally, improving a business process can be applied in a case by case basis that needs a lot of trial and error and huge data. In selecting the baseline process model, we need to compare many probable routes of business execution and calculate the most efficient one in respect to production cost and execution time. We also discuss the challenges and limitation of the framework, including the systems adoptability, technical difficulties and human factors.

Environment of Doing Business in East Asia : South Korean Experience

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to aim to stress the importance of doing business environment in South Korean economy. The theoretical justification is based on neo-institutional theories and new business management including Porter's Model as main justifications of state intervention due to the market failures to promote a competitive environment of doing business. Research design, data and methodology - The methods to be taken is to provide a comparative performance analysis, and offer in terms of doing business and economic freedom sub-index complemented by Korean reforms diagnostics. Results - The main results underlined the key factors explain the success of business environment in South Korea such as: a simplified registration procedures, a target tax incentives, the removal of business barriers, the improvement of legislative and regulatory framework, target reforms, property right and technical norms, good governance and the quality of institution, a role of a well-functioning legal framework, a strong competition framework, and the transparency of regulation, etc. Conclusion - A competitive environment of doing business is based on the target national strategies, appropriate reforms responding to national needs and good governance system.
