  • Conductive microcellular foams consisted of polystrene (PS) and polydopamine-coated carbon nanotube (PDA-CNT) were prepared via high internal phase emulsion (HIPE) polymerization and their morphology and electrical conductivity were investigated. CNT as a conductive nanofiller was modified to PDA-CNT by coating with hydrophilic PDA on the surface of CNT to increase aqueous phase dispersion and emulsion stability. It was possible to prepare the HIPEs having higher PDA-CNT content and the resultant foams having improved conductivity due to its good dispersion. The foams showed the morphology of interconnected cell structure. As PDA-CNT content increased, yield stress and storage modulus increased and cell size reduced. The PDA-CNT content showing electrical percolation threshold was ca. 0.58 wt% and the conductivity at PDA-CNT content of 5 wt% was increased to $10^{-3}S/m$.

  • This study empirically analyzes how factors inside university influence the creation of technology-based spin-offs, employing unique data sets. We posit a two-year time lag between the explanatory variables and the dependent one using total 270 university data sets for 5 years in Korea. The results show that universities with experienced technology licensing offices (TLO), those with R&D personnel size, those in possession of incubation policies or business incubators have an edge in creating technology-based spin-offs. The findings provide policy implications. By making more informed decisions on fostering technology-based spin-offs at universities, policymakers can promote the creation of new industries and lead them to create jobs in line with the national economic growth policy.

  • The polymorphism and the genetic relationships among 32 genetic resources of genus Nelumbo from Korea, Japan, China, USA, India, Thailand and Gabong were thoroughly investigated and extensively examined using ISSR markers. Out of 103 loci detected overall, 94 were identified to be polymorphic with a rate of 91.2%. The genetic similarity matrix revealed a wide range of variability among the 32 accessions, spanning from 0.227 to 0.833. The study findings indicate that the Nelumbo accessions have a high genetic diversity, and accordingly carry a germplasm qualifying as good genetic resources for cross breeding. According to the clustering analysis, different subspecies, N. nucifera and N. lutea, were divided into independent groups and all of the N. nucifera accessions could be classified into five categories. Compared to RAPD analysis, ISSR method showed a clearer picture of polymorphism among the accessions and exhibited a definite distinction even among the subspecies. In this respect, ISSR analysis is considered to be more effective in differentiating the accessions and subspecies of the genus Nelumbo than RAPD test.

  • Objective of this study was to examine the effects of grouts and temperature change on microorganisms in geothermal heat pump. Groundwater samples were obtained from wells in the heat pump system during installation (Oriental medicine hospital) and in the heat pump system under operation (Business incubation center). Grouts are the volclay sodium bentonite. Real-time PCR was used to evaluate total bacterial number and 16S rDNA. The results showed that total bacterial number of groundwater in the heat pump operation was greater than that of non-operation case, which indicates a temperature effect on the bacterial culture. In addition, high concentration of grout showed an elevated bacteria number. In the mean time, a long-term field monitoring is essentially required to confirm the effects of the grouts and the temperature changes.

  • This paper analyzed the effects the regional competitiveness index on the characteristics of the regional growth. This study divides the regions in the US based on the static and dynamic standard of income for the characteristics of the regional growth. The results of the analysis are as follows. First some regions such as Alaska, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming have higher levels of SCI and both the rate of growth and per capita income than the national average. These are considered prosperous regions based on their high level of SCI. Second, in regards to the relation between the income level and regional competitiveness index for the regional growth, the variables such as human resource, science technology, business incubation, openness, safety and environmental policy are significant. Third, infrastructure, human resource, science technology and openness are the significant variables concerning the relation between the rate of income growth and regional competitiveness index for the regional growth.

  • In this work, preparation and characterizations of hybrid membranes containing sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) (SPES) and sulfonated poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (SPVdF-co-HFP) (20, 30 or 40 wt%) were carried out. The structure of hybrid membranes was confirmed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and the Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The prepared SPAES/SPVdF-30 membrane exhibits higher ionic conductivity of 68.9 mS/cm at $90^{\circ}C$ and 100% RH. Besides, the other studies showed that the hybrid membrane has good oxidation stability, thermal stability, and mechanical stability. Thus, we believe that the prepared hybrid membrane is suitable for the development of membranes for fuel cell applications.

  • This study identified the factors that influence the problem solving intention of students who completed the action learning-based creativity programs based on the theory of reasoned action, and examined the influence relationship between these factors. As a result of the study, first, subjective norms of problem solving had a positive effect on problem solving intention, and second, attitude toward problem solving had a significant effect on problem solving intention. Third, it was found that students who had experience of participating in a patent education program applying the action learning methodology had a positive effect on the relationship between their attitude toward problem solving and their intention to solve the problem. These findings confirmed that in order to enhance the problem-solving intention, which is the basis for creativity of university students, it is important to spread the positive value of problem-solving within the university and to give students a positive attitude toward problem solving.

  • Morphological characters of Baemoochae, xBrassicoraphanus are mostly intermedium of the both parents, Chinese cabbage, Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis and radish, Raphanus sativus. The upper and lower parts of the leaf resemble the shape of Chinese cabbage and radish, respectively. The midrib of the leaf is round like to that of radish, but very big more than 3 cm in diameter and white in color like that of Chinese cabbage. The root was changed from the swollen type like that of radish to the enlarged taproot like that of the land race of Chinese cabbage after attaining genetical stability. The flower is white. The seed pod is divided into 2 different parts; the upper part is radish and about 4 cm in length and holds 3-4 seeds and the lower part is Chinese cabbage and about 3 cm in length and holds 7-8 seeds. The color of seed is brown, weight per 1.000 seeds is 5.5 g and the number of seeds per mL is 120. The matured plant in the fall season is around 5 kg in weight and outer leaves are very vigorous and stiffly and inner leaves are erect and form a loose head. The leaf and the root contain a high level of sulforaphene which is well known as a functional substance for anti-cancer and anti-super-bacteria. Baemoochae is an amphidiploid and does not have the self incompatibility function. It has a high level of cross compatibility with Chinese cabbage as the female parent, but not the male parent. It is cross incompatible to cabbage, B. oleracea, black mustard, B. nigra and radish. However it is highly compatible to oil seed rape, B. napus, yellow mustard, B. carinata and partial compatible to muatard, B. juncea in the reciprocal cross.

  • This study aims to measure the result of R&D support projects on the beneficiary companies of the World Class 300 project, a representative domestic middle market enterprise incubation project. In particular, beneficiary companies were classified into industry groups(materials, components, equipment, modules, consumer goods) and the empirical study was conducted on how the result of R&D support project was differentiated by each industry group's characteristics. The analysis was performed on 272 companies selected as WC300 project during 2011 to 2017. The result of Panel regression Analysis confirmed that R&D support project had divergent influences on the performance (net profit) of companies depending on which industry group they belong. The samples of materials, components, equipment companies turned out not to have statistical significance. The samples of modules companies showed negative correlations, while those of consumer goods was observed to have positive correlations. This study demonstrates that it is essential to plan and implement policies suited to the characteristics of each industry groups to maximize the effect of R&D support projects henceforward.
