WSN is composed of a lot of small sensors with the limited hardware resources. In WSN, at the initial stage, sensor nodes are randomly deployed over the region of interest, and self-configure the clustered networks by grouping a bunch of sensor nodes and selecting a cluster header among them. Specially, in Mobile-WSN environment, in which the administrator's intervention is restricted, the self-configuration capability is essential to establish a power-conservative Mobile-WSN which provides broad sensing coverage and communication coverage. In this paper, we propose a self-configuration routing protocol for Mobile-WSN, which consists of step-wise novel protocols for initial deployment, effective joining and removal of sensor nodes, which result in reducing overall power consumption, and extending the lifetime of network.
Hydrolysis of biomass for the production of fermentable sugar can be improved by the addition of surfactants. In pulp and paper mills, lignin, which is a by-product of the pulping process, can be utilized as a fine chemical. In the hydrolysis process, lignin is one of the major inhibitors of the enzymatic breakdown cellulose into sugar monomer. Therefore, the conversion of lignin into a biosurfactant offers the opportunity to solve the waste problem and improve hydrolysis efficiency. In this study, lignin derivatives, a biosurfactant, was applied to enzymatic hydrolysis of various lignocellulosic biomass. This Biosurfactant can be prepared by reacting lignin with a hydrophilic polymer such as polyethylene glycol diglycidylethers (PEDGE). In this study, the effect of biosurfactants on the enzymatic hydrolysis of pretreated sweet sorghum bagasse (SSB), oil palm empty fruit bunch, and sugarcane trash with different lignin contents was investigated. The results show that lignin derivatives improve the enzymatic hydrolysis of the pretreated biomass with low lignin content, however, it has less influence on the enzymatic hydrolysis of other pretreated biomass with lignin content higher than 10% (w/w). The use of biosurfactant on SSB kraft pulp can increase the sugar yield from 45.57% to 81.49%.
It is necessary to evaluate the resistance to disease among genetic resources for development of disease resistant grapes. This study was conducted to screen the resistance to crown gall in muscadine and Florida hybrid bunch grapes by pathogen inoculation. In order to compare the responses to infection with different pathogen strains, muscadine and Florida hybrid grapes were inoculated with 3 strains of Agrobacterium vitis. Although there were different levels crown gall formation among grape cultivars, there little variation in response to inoculated strains. Among 29 muscadine cultivars tested by inoculation of A. vitis 'C4612', most of them were shown to be susceptible, and 'Gold Isle' and 'Africa Queen' were highly susceptible, and two cultivars, 'Welder' and 'Jumbo' were found to be resistant to crown gall disease. Among Florida hybrid grapes, 'Daytona', 'Stover', and 'Swanee' were susceptible and 'Blanc du Bois' was moderately susceptible to crown gall. Because muscadine grapes have been actively utilized as useful genetic resources for development of new grape varieties by intersub-genus cross, this result from the screening of resistance among muscadine grapes can provide valuable information in breeding programs of grape resistant to crown gall.
My responses to Kim Kyung-Ok's Critique on my critique on the Hungerford approach can be summarized as follows; First, it was argued that possible confusions and misunderstandings around the concept of behavior in REB were mainly caused by Hungerford himself who has used the word in several different ways, from a bunch of overt actions to almost all kinds of responses including cognitive skills, without any clear operational definition of it for more than 20 years. It seems to be needed for future users of the word, 'Behavior' to Prevent unnecessary confusions by providing their operational definition of it. Second, REB is too ambiguous to be a legitimate goal of environmental education and too outcome-oriented to be a meaningful measure for environmental education research. Anyone who accept REB as a goal of EE or a measure for research should clearly suggest procedures and criteria for judging the environmental responsibility of actions under consideration. Third, the Hungerford approach has begun by realizing the limit of a linear traditional behavior change system and has been evolving toward a complex model with dynamic interactions among/between cognitive variables and affective variables. However, it still has one-way structural orientation toward 'Behavior' with no feedbacks. Addition of some feedback processes would make the model more flexible and realistic. Finally, both the Hines model and the Hungeford model were established based on a series of behavioristic studies including three doctoral dissertations equiped with a list of actions which were prejudged to be environmentally responsible by the researchers, not by the learners. What they were primarily interested in was not how mind functions during the learning processes but how learners' behavior can be effectively changed. Considering uncertainty and complexity associated with environmental problems, a great deal of efforts ought to be made toward more context-based and less normative studies applying cognitive psychology and quantitative approaches.
Canine adenovirus type 2 (CAV-2) infection results in significant respiratory illness in dogs. Isolating and culturing CAV-2 allows for investigations into its pathogenesis and the development of vaccines and diagnostic assays. In this study, we successfully isolated a virus from a naturally infected dog in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. The virus was propagated in Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) and Vero cells and showed a specific cytopathic morphology that appeared similar to a bunch of grapes. The virus was first confirmed as CAV-2 based on these cytopathic effects, an immunofluorescence assay, hemagglutination assay, and electron microscopy. The viral titer of the isolate designated APQA1601 reached $10^{6.5}$ 50% tissue culture infections dose per mL in MDCK cells and exhibited no hemagglutination units with erythrocytes from guinea pig. The virus was also confirmed by polymerase chain reaction and next-generation sequencing. The APQA1601 strain had the highest similarity (~99.9%) with the Toronto A26/61 strain, which was isolated in Canada in 1976 when the nucleotide sequences of the full genome of the APQA1601 strain were compared with those of other CAV strains. Isolating CAV-2 will help elucidate the biological properties of CAV-2 circulating in Korean dogs.
In this work, various wood biomasses were used to determine the combustion characteristics for the fuel of cogeneration plant. Combustion characteristics of four types, i.e., (i) forest products, (ii) recycled wood, (iii) empty fruit bunch, and (iv) palm kernel shell, were examined via thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA) in air atmosphere and coal was used as a comparison group. From the TGA results, the combustion of the wood biomass was occurred in the range of 280 to $420^{\circ}C$, which was lower than that of coal. Forest product showed the lowest activation energy (0.4 kJ/mol) compared to that of other wood biomasses (about 6 to 14 kJ/mol) and coal (64 kJ/mol). In addition, the reaction rate constant of the wood biomass was lower than that of coal. These results indicate the higher combustion initiation rate of wood biomass due to the high content of volatile matter, which had a low boiling point.
Regulation of proper gene expression is important for cellular and organismal survival, maintenance, and growth. Abnormal gene expression, even for a single critical gene, can thwart cellular integrity and normal physiology to cause diseases, aging, and death. Therefore, gene expression profiling serves as a powerful tool to understand the pathology of diseases and to cure them. In this study, the difference in gene expression in Flammulina velutipes was compared between the wild type (WT) mushroom and the mutant one with clogging phenomenon. Differentially expressed transcripts were screened to identify the candidate genes responsible for the mutant phenotype using the DNA microarray analysis. A total of 88 genes including 60 upregulated and 28 downregulated genes were validated using the real-time quantitative PCR analysis. In addition, proteomic differences between the WT and mutant mushroom were analyzed using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight (MALDI-TOF). Interestingly, the genes identified by these genomic and proteomic analyses were involved in stress response, translation, and energy/sugar metabolism, including HSP70, elongation factor 2, and pyruvate kinase. Together, our data suggest that the aberrant expression of these genes attributes to the mutant clogging phenotype. We propose that these genes can be targeted to foster normal growth in F. velutipes.
The ability hypothesis about black-and-white Mary once enjoyed the status of the "received view." But its popularity has declined since then. There seem to be two reasons for this. One is Martine Nida-Rümeline criticism against the ability hypothesis, where he tries to show that what Mary learns upon release is more than a bunch of abilities. The other is Jason Stanley and Timothy Williamson's criticism. They argue that the abilities Mary acquires amount to "knowledge-how", which in turn is reduced to "knowledge-that." This essay aims to defend the ability hypothesis against these criticisms, and thereby restore the status of the ability hypothesis. As for the first criticism, it is argued that the kind of knowledge Mary acquires other than the abilities is "demonstrative knowledge," which not only poses no threat to physicalism, but also is orthogonal to phenomenal knowledge. As for the second criticism, it is argued that by ruling out "the ability to imagine experiences," the ability hypothesis can survive Stanley and Williamson's criticism.

Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) is a Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG) Tier-1 center mandated to preserve raw data produced from A Large Ion Collider Experiment (ALICE) experiment using the world's largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Physical medium used widely for long-term data preservation is tape, thanks to its reliability and least price per capacity compared to other media such as optical disk, hard disk, and solid-state disk. However, decreasing numbers of manufacturers for both tape drives and cartridges, and patent disputes among them escalated risk of market. As alternative to tape-based data preservation strategy, we proposed disk-only erasure-coded archival storage system, Custodial Disk Storage (CDS), powered by Exascale Open Storage (EOS), an open-source storage management software developed by CERN. CDS system consists of 18 high density Just-Bunch-Of-Disks (JBOD) enclosures attached to 9 servers through 12 Gbps Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Host Bus Adapter (HBA) interfaces via multiple paths for redundancy and multiplexing. For data protection, we introduced Reed-Solomon (RS) (16, 4) Erasure Coding (EC) layout, where the number of data and parity blocks are 12 and 4 respectively, which gives the annual data loss probability equivalent to 5×10-14. In this paper, we discuss CDS system design based on JBOD products, performance limitations, and data protection strategy accommodating EOS EC implementation. We present CDS operations for ALICE experiment and long-term power consumption measurement.
Banana blast was frequently encountered in greenhouses of Jeju province during a local survey of plan diseases from 1985 to 1986. The disease incidence on banana was very severe up to $100\%$ in a greenhouse. The causal fungus was identified as Pyricularia angulata Hashioka based on mycological characteristics and Path genicity of the fungus. The symptom of blast produced on leaves of banana was circular to oval, dark brow spots with yellow margins which measured 1-10mm in diameter, and the symptom on fruits was circular to oval reddish brown or dark brown, depressed spots which measured up to 20mm in diameter. The symptoms were scattered not only on leaves and fruits of banana but. also on petioles, leaf sheaths, bunch stalks and crowns The pathogen was characterized that conidia were hyaline, 2 septated, ovate to pyriform with a small hilum solitary at ends of den tides of conidiophores, and measured $16.0-34.0\times7.0-12.0{\mu}m$ (average $22.5\times9.0{\mu}m$) and conidiophores were mostly 2 septated, occasionally 2 or 3 branched, denticulate at the tips, and measured $7.5-100.0\times3.0-5.0{\mu}m$(average $90.0\times4.0{\mu}m$). The optimum temperature range for mycelial growth of the fungus on PDA was $26-28^{\circ}C$. The result of pathogenicity tests revealed that P. angulata had pathogenicity only on banana. On the other hand Pyricularia grisea (Cke.) Sacc. isolated from Digitaria sanguinalis(L.) Scopo. was not pathogenic to banana. It was revealed that the leaves were the most susceptible to P. angulata among several parts of banana in inoculation tests. Thirty-day-old fruits of banana were more susceptible to the fungus than 60-day-old fruits, and bunch stalks were more susceptible than the fruits.
