Incorporating Station Related Aging Failures in Bulk System Reliability Analysis

  • This paper proposes methods to incorporate station related aging failures in composite system reliability assessment. Aging failures of station components, such as circuit breakers and bus bars, are a major concern in composite power system planning and operation as an increasing number of station components approach the wear-out phase. This paper presents probabilistic models for circuit breakers involving aging failures and relevant evaluation techniques to examine the effects of station related aging outages. The technique developed to incorporate station related aging failures are illustrated by application to a small composite test system. The paper illustrates the effects of circuit breaker aging outages on bulk system reliability evaluation and examines the relative effects of variations in component age. System sensitivity analysis is illustrated by varying selected component parameters. The results show the implications of including component aging failure considerations in the overall analysis of a composite system.

  • This paper presents a study on evaluating the reliability indices considering a transmission system. Because successful operation of electric power under the deregulated electricity market depends on transmission system reliability management, quantity evaluation of transmission system reliability is very important. This paper introduces features and operation modes of the Transmission Reliability Evaluation for Large-Scale Systems(TRELSS) Version 6.0, a commercial program made in EPRI, and TranRel-I V3.2, a educational program made in GSNU(GyeongSang National University) for assessing reliability indices of composite power system. The packages access not only bulk but also bus indices for reliability evaluation of composite powers system. The practicality, effectiveness and future works of this methodology are illustrated by demonstrations of two case studies of modified IEEE 25 buses reliability test system using TRELSS and TranRel-I and a brief case study for the KEPCO size system using TranRel-II made in GSNU.

The quantity evaluation of transmission system reliability is very important under competitive electricity environment. The reason is that the successful operation of electric power under the deregulated electricity market depends on transmission system reliability management. This paper introduces features and operation modes of the Transmission Reliability Evaluation for Large-Scale Systems(TRELSS) Version 6.2, a program made in EPRI, for assessing reliability indices of composite power system. The package accesses not only bulk but also buses indices for reliability evaluation of composite powers system.   • In the planning stage of bulk power transmission system, reliability evaluation has been a major issue in the sense of suppling reliable power at the minimum cost. MEXICO program, based on Monte-Carlo simulation method, is known as a valuable tool for reliability evaluation. This paper presents the empirical study results when using MEXICO program for IEEE-RTS, IEEE-MRTS and KEPCO-233 system.

  • The reliability evaluation methods for the bulk power system habe been studied by several electric utilities. The evaluation methods based on the probability theory and the computer packages are being developed or already practicalized. But without correct probabilistic data, accurate result couldn't be expected. In this point, the construction of database is needed. Some of probabilistic data for evaluation of bulk power system are shown in this paper.

포름알데히드 함유 화학제품의 MSDS 신뢰성 평가 연구 (A Study of MSDS Reliability Evaluation in Chemicals including Formaldehyde)

  • Objectives: Workers who use chemicals are exposed to safety accidents and occupational diseases. Employers are required to provide workers with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) in order to prevent accidents and diseases related to chemicals. Thus, it is very important to offer reliable MSDSs. In this paper, we assessed the reliability of MSDSs for chemicals including formaldehyde. Methods: To evaluate MSDS reliability, we collected 14 MSDSs and bulk samples from the chemical industry. MSDS reliability was evaluated by the completeness of details. In order to evaluate the adequacy of the formaldehyde contents in a mixture, bulk samples were collected and analyzed by HPLC. The result of Globally Harmonized System (GHS) classification was confirmed by identifying physical chemical properties, toxicology information and ecological information. Results: The result of the evaluation of 14 MSDSs showed 76.29% average reliability on each item, especially 53.9% average appropriate rate on hazard risk classification. No chemicals failed to match between the content (%) in MSDSs and the result of analysis. Conclusions: To elevate MSDSs reliability, the certified education of MSDS drafters and reorganization of the MSDS circulation system is required.

  • The purpose of the facility investment planning for bulk power system is to appropriately configure the power system network to supply the load, which has the supply capability satisfying the probabilistically changing load on the desired reliability level. In order to achieve this purpose, this paper represents the reliability evaluation of the KEPCO's real system with using the MEXICO model, and builds the data base of the power system operation in order to effectively handle the computer model.

  • As a transmission network planning should be optimal in the sense of technology, economy and reliability, an adequate optimization tool is required. The simulation model is valuable at this case. It enables the planner to detect the weak points of the system by providing the planner with unsupplied powers, operating cost, and active losses at each substation node and each line. This paper represent the example of application of simulation model for power system planning.

  • In this paper, we fabricated $CO_2$ gas sensor based on the MEMS infrared sensor and characterized its electrical and $CO_2$-sensing properties. The fabricated $CO_2$ gas sensor by MEMS technique has many advanges over NDIR(nondispersive) $CO_2$ sensor such as monolithic fabrication, very high selectivity on $CO_2$, low power consumption and compact system. Microbolometer by surface micromachining was fabricated for gas detector and $CO_2$ filter chip by bulk micromachining was fabricated for signal referencing. By using the proposed and fabricated gas sensor, we are expected to measure $CO_2$ concentration more accurately with high reliability.
