The purpose of this study is to analyze the situation of energy consumption and its characteristics in large scale store. The related survey is carried out in large scale store to investigate the energy consumption and energy use trend of heating, cooling, hot water, lighting, ventilation, equipments and others. The area of large scale discount store is about $65000m^2$, located in Daejeon. For Annual Energy Analysis of building, We surveyed used energy for 1 year and simulated using a building energy simulation(TRNSYS 16). The results of this study are as follows. 1)The amount of annual total energy consumption are 18615.244MWh/yr(286.4KWh/$m^2yr$), The rate of heating, cooling and base energy(for hot water, lighting, ventilation, equipments, cooking and others) is 3054MWh/yr(47kWh/$m^2yr$), 5660.09MWh/yr(87.08kWh/$m^2yr$), 9900.47MWh/yr(152.31KWh/$m^2yr$) respectively. The total used energy is higher than others building in Korea. Especially, The energy consumption of large scale store is very depends on operating period and pattern such as space temperature, occupancy, lighting system, equipments operating schedule and etc.
The purpose of this study is to analyze heating and cooling load variation due to envelope retrofits in an old school building. In a previous study, envelope retrofit of an old school building resulted in annual energy consumption reduction. However, cooling energy consumption increased with the envelope retrofit. This is because of high internal heat generation rates in school buildings and internal heat cannot escape through windows or walls when the envelope's thermal performance improves. To clarify this assumption, thermal performance changes due to envelope retrofits were analyzed by simulation. Results revealed indoor temperature and inner window surface temperature increased with high insulation level of windows. Indoor heat loss through windows by conduction, convection and radiation decreased and resulted in an increase of cooling load in an old school building. From results of this study, energy saving impact of envelope retrofits in an old school building may not be significant because of high internal heat gain level in school buildings. In case of replacing windows in school buildings, local climate and internal heat gain level should be considered.
Thermal performance of pipe network of continuous heating system controlled by thermostat and flow control valve was simulated in consideration of radiation heat transfer and solved by linear analysis method. Thermal performance of real apartment building with radiant floor heating system was simulated by equivalence heat resistance-capacity method. This method enables to simulate the unsteady variation of temperature or each element of building. Heat transfer characteristics of each element were also investigated.
The present study concerns the simulation of supply-air control in a variable air volume (VAV) system. A stratified lumped thermal model (multi-zone model) is suggested to predict local thermal response of an air-conditioned space. The effects of various thermal parameters such as the cooling system capacity, the thermal mass of air-conditioned space, the time delay of thermal effect, and the building envelope heat transmission are investigated in detail. Further, the influence of control parameters, PI control factor and the sensor location on a VAV system is quantitatively delineated. The results obtained show that the previous homogeneous lumped thermal model (1-zone model) may predict a significantly different thermal response in the air-conditioned space according to the sensor location.
Energy simulation tools can provide information on the amount of heat transfer through building envelope components, which are considered the main sources of heat loss in buildings. Therefore, it is important to improve the quality of outputs from energy simulation tools and also the process of obtaining them. In this paper, a new Building Energy Performance Assessment Tool (BEPAT) is introduced, which provides users with granular data related to heat transfer through every single wall, window, door, roof, and floor in a building and automatically saves all the related data in text files. This information can be used to identify the envelope components for thermal improvement through energy retrofit or during the design phase. The generated data can also be adopted in the design of energy smart homes, building design tools, and energy retrofit tools as a supplementary dataset. BEPAT is developed by modifying EnergyPlus source code as the energy simulation engine using C++, which only requires Input Data File (IDF) and weather file to perform the energy simulation and automatically provide detailed output. To validate the BEPAT results, a computer model is developed in Revit for use in BEPAT. Validating BEPAT's output with EnergyPlus "advanced output" shows a difference of less than 2% and thus establishing the capability of this tool to facilitate the provision of detailed output on the quantity of heat transfer through walls, fenestrations, roofs, and floors.

It is currently agreed upon that one of the major challenges in the construction industry is the energy efficiency of existing buildings. The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and United Nations (UN) have reported that the concentration of global atmospheric carbon dioxide has increased by an average of 50%, a record speed, from 2015 to 2016. The housing sector contributes to 45% of the UK's carbon emissions. To help tackle some of those issues the recast Energy Performance Building Directive (EBPD) has introduced Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEBs) in the coming years (including buildings that will undergo refurbishment/renovations). This paper will explore the retrofitting of a UK residential dwelling using Thermal Analysis Simulation (TAS, EDSL) software by focusing on building fabric improvements and usage of on-site renewables. The CIBSE Test Reference Year (TRY) weather data has been selected to examine the performance of the building under current and future climate projections. The proposed design variables were finally implemented in the building altogether on TAS. The simulation results showed a reduction in the building's annual energy consumption of $122.64kWh/m^2$ (90.24%). The greatest savings after this were achieved for the annual reduction in carbon emissions and avoided emissions, which were 84.59% and $816.47kg/CO_2$, respectively.

The packaged terminal air conditioner, the typical cooling system for the residential buildings, consumes a large amount of electricity in a short period time during peak hours. In order to reduce the peak load and conserve the electricity, the thermally activated building system can be used as a secondary system to handle the partial cooling load. However, the thermally activated building system may cause condensation and under-cooling. Thus, design of both systems should be performed with careful investigation in characteristics of both systems to amplify the advantages. Since the thermally activated building system has the time-delay effect which may cause under-cooling, the system is designed to handle the base load of the building. Hence, simple simulation with EnergyPlus was performed to observe the characteristics of cooling load in residential buildings. Once the possible range of the load handling ratio of the thermally activated building system was decided, characteristics of system was analyzed in terms of hardware component and operation parameters. The hardware components were analyzed in plant and system aspects and the operation parameter was evaluated in the thermal comfort aspect. As the load handling ratio increased, the thermal comfort increased due to the lower radiant mean temperatures. Within the range of thermal comfort, the several adjustments were made in setpoint temperature and electricity consumptions of difference cases were observed to decide which components and parameters were important for designing the systems.
The purpose of this study is to accomplished an in-site evaluation method for existing building insulation status using Infra-red camera and to consider improvement performance to prevent condensation and draw the optimum insulation design method for building using simulation tool. The research contents of this study are to evaluate validity and suitability of building insulation defect survey using Infra-red camera for apartment housing with temperature and heat flow pattern analyze method. Based on this research, the three corners, weak part in condensation, were selected in apartment building and conducted simulation by three-dimensional steady state. From the results, it is required to strengthen insulation design, and it is founded that existing insulation system typically applied to most Korean apartment housings have serious insulation defect that insulation is disconnected by structural components at the joints of wall-slab and wall-wall in envelope. Thus, it is considerate to need a concrete technology improvement.
The air flows in building caused by thermal buoyancy, known as the stack effect, have a pronounced influence on both the indoor environment (thermal environment, noise, draught and contaminant diffusion) and energy needs in high-rise buildings. Prior studies for airflow in high-rise buildings were focused on the degree of stack effect and countermeasures. The wind pressure was neglected during the calculation of the indoor airflow in high-rise buildings to clarify the effect of thermal buoyancy in previous studies. However, wind is an important driving force of indoor airflows in buildings with the stack effect. In this study, the effect of wind pressure on indoor airflow in high-rise building when the stack effect is dominant in winter was analyzed. In this paper, methods that involved considering the wind pressure in airflow network simulation were analyzed.
This study is focused on the evaluation of thermal output of TABS (Thermally Activated Building System). The aim of this study is to evaluate TABS in terms of the temperature difference between heating medium supply temperature ($T_s$) and return temperature ($T_r$), thermal output and the surface temperature distribution according to the design flow rate and the design flow temperature. Through the transient heat transfer simulation using temperature calculation using Crank-Nicolson FDM using Physibel Voltra 6.0 W, the temperature difference between $T_s$ and $T_r$, thermal output and the surface temperature distribution of specific TABS was calculated and evaluated. The results show that specific thermal output and temperature difference at $60^{\circ}C$ of supply water temperature were about 162 $W/m^2$, $13.6^{\circ}C$ respectively.
