  • Shear wall is the most important component resisting lateral loads imposed to a building by wind or earthquake. In shear walls, lateral load applied to framing is transmitted to sheathing panel through nailed joints between sheathing and framing so that the load is resisted by in-plane shear strength of sheathing. Therefore, nailed joints are the most basic and important component in the viewpoint of stiffness and strength of shear walls. In this study, stiffness and strength of single nailed joint were measured by single shear tests of nailed joints and used as input for theoretical models developed to estimate racking behavior of shear walls. And shear walls were tested to check the accuracy of theoretical models estimating racking resistance of shear walls. Stiffness of nailed joint was affected by grain direction of stud but direction of sheathing panel had little effect. Behavior of nailed joint and shear walls under lateral loads could be represented by three lines. Theoretical model II was more accurate than theoretical model I in estimating racking behavior of shear wall under loads.

  • In the era of building engineering the intensification of Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) is world-shattering magnetism. It has lot of rewards over ordinary concrete i.e., enrichment in production, cutback in manpower, brilliant retort to load and vibration along with improved durability. In the present study, the mechanical strength of CM-2 (SCC containing 10% of rice husk ash (RHA) as cement replacement and 600 grams of glass fibers per cubic meter) was investigated at various dosages of cement replacement by fly ash (FA) and GGBS. A total of 17 SCC mixtures including two control SCC mixtures (CM-1 and CM-2) were developed for investigating fresh and hardened properties in which, ten ternary cementitious blends of SCC by blending OPC+RHA+FA, OPC+RHA+GGBS and five quaternary cementitious blends (OPC+RHA+FA+GGBS) at different replacement dosages of FA and GGBS were developed with reference to CM-2. For constant water-cement ratio (0.42) and dosage of SP (2.5%), the addition of glass fibers (600 grams/m3) in CM-1 i.e., CM-2 shows lower workability but higher mechanical strength. While fly ash based ternary blends (OPC+RHA+FA) show better workability but lower mechanical strength as FA content increases in comparison to GGBS based ternary blends (OPC+RHA+GGBS) on increasing GGBS content. The pattern for mixtures appeared to exhibit higher workablity as that of the concentration of FA+GGBS rises in quaternary blends (OPC+RHA+FA+GGBS). A decrease in compressive strength at 7-days was noticed with an increase in the percentage of FA and GGBS as cement replacement in ternary and quaternary blended mixtures with respect to CM-2. The highest 28-days compressive strength (41.92 MPa) was observed for mix QM-3 and the lowest (33.18 MPa) for mix QM-5.

  • This study aims to understand the process of valuing contemporary artworks by young and emerging artists via online art platforms. This paper conceptualizes Bourdieu's theory of cultural capital, which theoretically guides us for conducting a case study of Saatchi Art. This article mainly collected data by interviewing seven Korean artists who were selected by our case with the supplement information carried out direct observation and document reviews. By analyzing the gathered data, the key finding of this research is that the selection of artists in Saatchi Art's curatorial program implicitly admits and guarantees the value of their artworks. By doing so, it contributes to building symbolic capital for the selected artists. This article also contends that such construction of the artists' symbolic capital results from the accumulated symbolic capitals of the founder and curator of the online platform. The theoretical contribution of this paper is to expand previous research on valuing artworks in the offline art world into the online one.

  • This study describes the evaluation results on the effect of soil particle surfaces coated with various hydrophobic conditions on spectral information according to water content. Wettability test and spectral information evaluation test were performed on the hydrophobic coated standard sand. When the standard sand was coated with 1%, 3%, and 5% hydrophobic, the contact angles of sand-water interface were 130°~143°, 129°~144°, and 131°~144°, respectively. This means that the contact angle increased as the degree of hydrophobic coating increased at the same drying time, but the range of the contact angle had the same wettability. This means that the contact angle increases as the hydrophobic coating degree increases at the same drying time, whereas the contact angle range has the same wettability. As a result of spectral information evaluation, the maximum spectral reflectance of the dried sand with hydrophobic condition decreased compared to that of the hydrophilic sand, as the degree of hydrophobic increased. However, the maximum spectral reflectance was increased by increasing the degree of hydrophobic under the same water content conditions.

  • In this study, the effect of aspect ratio and soil strength on the skin friction for barrette pile was evaluated using numerical analysis. The back analysis was conducted to obtain the friction coefficient between pile and soil using the experimental results of the static pile load test for the barrette pile installed at OOsite in Busan. A total of 36 simulations for the static pile load test were also conducted with respect to various aspect ratios and soil strengths. It was found that the skin friction increases as the aspect ratio increases and the change in increasing rate was remarkable near the ultimate skin friction. In addition, the effect of aspect ratio on the skin friction was investigated when the strength of soil at pile tip was varied.

  • Tunnel face mapping involves the determination of rock discontinuities or weak rock conditions where extra support might be required. In this study, we investigated the application of Lidar scanning and photogrammetry to quantitatively characterize discontinuities of the rock mass on the tunnel face during excavation. The 3D models of tunnel faces generated by using these methods enable accurate and automatic discontinuity measurement to overcome the limitations of manual mapping. The results of this study show that both photogrammetry and Lidar can be used to reconstruct the 3D model of the tunnel face, although the photogrammetric 3D model is less detailed than its counterpart produced by Lidar. Given acceptable accuracy and cost-effectiveness, photogrammetry can be a fast, reliable, and low-cost alternative to Lidar for acquiring 3D models and determining rock discontinuities on tunnel faces.

  • In the plant structures including nuclear power plants, penetrations are frequently installed in walls and slabs to reinforce facilities during operation, and reinforcing bars are sometimes cut off during concrete coring. Since these penetrations are not considered at the design or construction stage, cutting of reinforcing bar during opening installation is actually damage to the structure, structural integrity evaluation considering the stress transition range or effective width around the new penetration is necessary. In this study, various nonlinear analyses and static loading experiments are performed to evaluate the effect of reinforcing bar cutting that occurs when a penetration is newly installed in the shear wall of wall-type building of operating nuclear power plant. In addition, the decrease in wall stiffness due to the installed new penetration and cutting of reinforcing bars is evaluated and the stress and strain distributions of rebars around penetration are also measured.

  • Hydrogen is expected to be widely applied in most sectors within the current energy system, such as transportation and logistics, and is expected to be economically and technologically utilized as a power source to achieve vehiclebon emission reduction. In particular, the construction of hydrogen charging station infrastructure will not only support the distribution of hydrogen electric vehicles, but also play an important role in building a hydrogen logistics system. Therefore, This paper suggest additional charging infrastructure areas in Seoul with a focus on supply according to the annual average growth rate (CAGR), centering on Seoul, where hydrogen vehicles are most widely distributed. As of February 2022, hydrogen charging infrastructures were installed in Gangseo-gu, Gangdong-gu, Mapo-gu, Jung-gu, and Seocho-gu in downtown Seoul. Next, looking at the number of hydrogen vehicles by administrative dong in Seoul from 2018 to 2022, Seocho-gu has the most with 246 as of 2022, and Dongjak-gu has the highest average growth rate of 215.4% with a CAGR of 215.4%. Therefore, as a result of CAGR analysis, Dongjak-gu is expected to supply the most hydrogen vehicles in the future, and Seocho-gu currently has the most hydrogen vehicles, so it is likely that additional hydrogen charging infrastructure will be needed between Dongjak-gu and Seocho-gu.

  • At present, naked-eye 3D appears more and more commonly on the facades of urban buildings. It brings an incredible visual experience to the audience by simulating the natural 3D 3D space effect. At the same time, it also creates enormous commercial value for city publicity and commercial advertisements. There is much research on naked-eye 3D visual effects, but for right-angle LED screens. Right-angle LED screen's brand-new expression method that has only become popular in recent years, how to convey a realistic naked-eye 3D effect through two LED screens combined at right angles has become a problem worth exploring. To explore the whole design ideas and production process of the naked-eye 3D impact of the right-angle LED screen, this paper is a preliminary study aimed at understanding the performance principle and expression features. Before the case analysis, first, understand the standard virtual 3D space construction techniques. Combining it with the optical illusion phenomenon, according to the expression principle of the naked-eye 3D effect of the right-angle LED screen, it can be summarized into seven expressions: Shadow, Color contrast, Background structure line, Magnify object, Object out of bounds, Object floating, Fusion of picture and background. By analyzing the optical illusion phenomenon used in the case, we summarized the main performance characteristics of the naked eye 3D effect. The emergence of right-angle LED screens breaks the limitation of a single plane of optical illusion art, perfectly combines building facades with naked-eye 3D visual effects, and provides designers with a brand-new creative platform. Understanding its production principles and main expressive features can help designers enter this innovative platform better.

  • A new type of private education institute appeared starting from the 16th century, called Seowon consist of educational spaces and Jesa(a form of memorial ritual for the family's ancestors) space. Seowon Architecture is representative Confucian Architecture. Seowon is a kind of private school and it is a higher educational institute. the time of establishment was from the middle of 16th century to the end of 19th century, but the famous Seowon which remains up to now had been mainly built from the end of 16th century to the beginning of 17th century. Seowon was built on a quiet place far from the town for Students and Scholars to concentrate on their study. and it has beautiful surrounding scenery. Seowon has a place for study in the front and a place for sacrifice at the back regardless of configuration of ground. Gangdang is a building in the place for study in which teacher and students study. It is smilar place to Myongryundang of Hyanggyo. As a plan composition, there is a wide Daechong and two rooms at the both sides. Infront of Cangdang, there are Dongjae and Seojae on the right and the left side which are student' dormitory. This study argues that the Confucianist ideas and topography are the factors that determine the hierarchy Seowon. In light of this, A Study on Spatial Configuration of Education Area in Do-dong Sewon attempted to conduct an analysis by applying such backgrounds, and therefore studied the arrangement rules and construction methods for Seowons.
