An Empirical Analysis of Building Energy Consumption Considering Building and Local Factors in Seoul (건물과 지역요인을 고려한 서울시 건물에너지 소비 실증분석)

  • This study aims to empirically examine the relationship between building energy consumption and building and local factors in Seoul. Building energy issue is an important topic for low carbon and eco-friendly city development. Building physical, socio-economic and environmental factors effect to increasing or decreasing energy consumption. However, there are different characteristic in each area, and this kind of variable has a hierarchical structure. The multi-level model was used to consider the hierarchical structure of the variables. In this study, a multi-level model was applied to confirm the difference between areas. Spatial area is Seoul, Korea and the temporal scope is August, summer season. As the result, in Model 1 (Null Model), ICC is 0.817. This shows that the energy consumption differs by 8.174% due to factors at the Dong level. Model 2 (Random Intercept Model) suggests that building's physical factors and Average age, Household size and Land price in Dong level have significant effects on Building energy consumption. In Model 3 (Random Coefficient Model), random effect variables have intercepts and slopes to vary across groups. This study provides a perspective for policy makers that the building energy reduction policies to be applied for buildings should be differently applied on area. Furthermore, not only physical factors but also socio-economic and environmental factors are important when making energy reduction policy.

Development and Application of the Calibration Method of Individual Building Energy Consumption (개별건물 에너지소비량 보정기법 개발 및 적용방안)

  • Building energy consumption generally depends on living patterns of residents and outdoor air temperature changes. Although outdoor air temperature changes effect on building energy consumption, there is no calibration method for the comparison before and after Green Remodeling or BEMS installation etc., Big data of building energy consumption are collected and managed by 『National Integrated Management System of Building Energy』 in Korea, and they are utilized for the development of a calibration method for individual buildings as shown as the calibration method for small-area building stocks in the previous research. This study aims to develope a calibration method using big data of building energy consumption of individual buildings and outdoor air temperature changes, and to propose application of appropriate calibration methods for individual buildings or small-area building stocks according to the calibration purpose and conditions.

Hygroscopic Characteristic of Hydrothermal Reacted Panels Using Porous Materials (다공성 원료를 사용한 수열합성 패널의 흡습 특성)

  • Diatomite, bentonite and zeolite were used as porous materials for fabricating hygroscopic panels. Moisture adsorption and desorption of porous materials were investigated and hydrothermal method was applied to fabricate panels. Cheolwon diatomite and Pohang zeolite showed excellent characteristics of moisture adsorption and desorption. These characteristics were caused by higher surface area and pore volume of porous materials. Correlation coefficient between surface area and moisture adsorption content of porous materials was 0.93. Moisture adsorption contents were influenced by surface area and pore volume of panels, and surface area more effected on moisture adsorption. Correlation coefficient between surface area and moisture adsorption content of panels was 0.86. Moisture adsorption content of panel with 10% Pohang zeolite was $180\;g/m^2$ and that of 10% Cheolwon diatomite was $170\;g/m^2$. Moisture desorption content of panel with 10% Pohang zeolite was $105\;g/m^2$. Moisture adsorption contents of panel with porous materials were higher than that of panel without porous materials.

Preliminary ALARA residual radioactivity levels for Kori-1 decommissioning and analysis of results and effects of remediation area

  • The effects of nearby residents and the public by the residual contamination from the decommissioning of nuclear facilities should comply with the dose criteria, and whether additional remediation action is necessary from the ALARA perspective must be determined. Therefore, we analyzed the requirements of ALARA action levels and performed preliminary ALARA evaluation. The ratio of residual contamination concentration to DCGL was calculated for the basement fill and the building occupancy mode. The results showed that the additional remediation actions below DCGL are not justified. In addition, we analyzed the effect of remediation area. It was noted that the increase of the remediation area showed a positive correlation with the Conc/DCGL value in the basement fill mode. On the other hand, in the building occupancy mode, since the floor area of the building is the target of remediation and has the effect of increasing the same as the evaluation area of the building occupants, but due to the difference in the amount of increase, the Conc/DCGL showed a negative correlation. We expect the approach and method of ALARA evaluation can be utilized for concrete cost-benefit calculation during the decommissioning or at the time of remediation.

Study of Comparison on Energy Consumption Based on HVAC area along Floor in High Rise Building (고층빌딩의 층별 에너지 사용량 비교에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the energy consumption of the typical floor was compared by the total energy comsumption of the building in highrise building. In gerneral, many researchers are studying on the typical floor in highrise buildings for avoiding complexity in energy simulation. But few papers are studied on energy consumption along the floors. In the model bulding, the energy consumption data were acquired by BEMS system in 2011. According the data, the total net energy consumption was $193.99kWh/m^2$ for all area and the total net energy consumption was $247.61kWh/m^2$ for HVACR area. The total electricity and gas energy are used 47.7% for heating and cooling, 33.5% for lighting and plug, 12.9% for conveyance power and 5.9% for restaurant. In comparison of only ground floor, amount of energy consumption in the lobby is 10%, and 90% of total energy consumption is used in the typical floor. For this result, energy simulation on the typical floor is acceptable for calculating the total energy consumption in the highrise building.

An Asbestos Risk Assessment and Areal Distribution of Asbestos Containing Materials in Public Buildings (석면함유 공공 건축물의 위해성 평가 및 면적 분포 특성)

  • Objectives: This study, aims to examine the distribution characteristics of asbestos-containing building materials; risk assessment and area of distribution of asbestos-containing building materials depending on year of construction; building materials; types of building materials; and usage in public buildings in order to create fundamental data for safe management of public buildings. Methods: The asbestos investigation was conducted by an asbestos research institution from March to May 2014, targeting 41 public buildings which were subject to asbestos investigation in South Chungcheong-do Province. With respect to 381 presumed asbestos-containing materials, an investigation was conducted into whether they contained asbestos, asbestos type, content, year of construction, and use in the building were examined, and a risk assessment was performed. Results: Asbestos-containing building materials were used in 35 buildings(85.4%). Among them, 31(88.6%) were public buildings. Asbestos was detected in 73% of 381 suspected asbestos-containing materials, which were mostly ceiling materials (85.2%). The older the buildings, the more they showed a tendency to have a significantly higher risk assessment score. The ratio of average area with asbestos-containing building materials to total floor area was 57.6%, 44.1%, and 17.8% for buildings built in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, respectively. This showed a tendency to be significantly higher with the age of the building. Conclusions: From the results above, it can be concluded that with the age of the buildings, the risk assessment score and the ratio of average area with asbestos-containing building materials to total floor area became significantly higher. Given the concern about the exposure to asbestos of residents and civil petitioners, safety management of older public buildings and measures for dismantling and removal of asbestos-containing building materials should therefore be urgently established.

  • The evaluation of economy of wards is based on the building area. The parameters are nursing area per bed, occupied area per patient, and the portion of movement area. Three areas such as patient area, nurse area, and corridor area are devided. The results of analysis are as follows. At first, allocation of patient area has the highest priority. Even though nurse area is small, the patient area is relatively large. Secondly, the patient area is mostly determined by the type of rooms, such as single, double, etc.. Finally, the type of alley on the floor is important to economy. The single corridor type is the most economical followed by the double corridor type. the single loaded type shows the worst economy.

A Study on Effects of Urban Growth Management Style Urban Regeneration of the Mixed Use Building in Seoul (주상복합건물의 성장관리형 도시재생 효과에 관한 연구)

  • In the urban area where rapid suburbanization trend continues, the role of mixed use building is controversial. It is argued that the mixed use building is an effective tool to recover residential function of urban core(urban regeneration). It is also argued that the building is a cause of serious urban problems, such as congestion, public service shortages. The fundamental purpose of this study is to examine the role of mixed use building in terms of urban growth management in Seoul. For this purpose, data of mixed use building from 1981 to 2007 are collected and analysed. The results show that most of mixed use buildings are located in either sub-centers or population losing areas, rather than traditional urban core. Therefore, it is hard to accept that the two controversial arguments. The mixed use building noncore areas in most cases. However, it dose help to increase population inflow in non-core areas. it is difficult to accept the public service assertion which states that super-high rise mixed use building causes public service congestion, because the building is built in population losing or demand decreasing area. Based on these findings this study suggests some policy alternatives such as urban service boundary or concurrency program to management urban growth.

Building Boundary Extraction from Airborne LIDAR Data (항공 라이다자료를 이용한 건물경계추출에 관한 연구)

  • Due to the increasing need for 3D spatial data, modeling of topography and artificial structures plays an important role in three-dimensional Urban Analysis. This study suggests a methodology for solving the problem of calculation for the extraction of building boundary, minimizing the user's intervention, and automatically extracting building boundary, using the LIDAR data. The methodology suggested in this study is characterized by combining the merits of the point-based process and the image-based process. The procedures for extracting building boundary are three steps: 1) LIDAR point data are interpolated to extract approximately building region. 2) LIDAR point data are triangulated in each individual building area. 3) Extracted boundary of each building is then simplified in consideration of its area, minimum length of building.The performance of the developed methodology is evaluated using real LIDAR data. Through the experiment, the extracted building boundaries are compared with digital map.
