A graphical method to determine the anthropometric levels that's are lean, slightly lean, normal, slightly obese, obese by BMI, Broca and Rohrer indices was developed. On the graph of height vs. weight, regions corresponding to the anthropometric levels were separated by equations calculated with boundary conditions for BMI, Broca and Rohrer indices, respectivelyl. It was observed that the determinations of the anthropometric level was influenced by the weight to a larger extent than the hight, which magnitude was in the order of BMI>Broca>Rohrer. There appeared significant differences between the results of the anthropometric level for higher and weight by BMI, Broca and Rohrer indices, respectively. Conclusively, the graphical method was proved as a good means to analyze and compare the anthropometric levels from BMI, Broca and Rohrer indices.

Objective: To report the case of a patient suffering from Broca’s aphasia after cerebral infarction, which was improved by Korean medical treatments, especially five-element acupuncture.Methods: To relievesymptoms, Korean medicine treatments such as acupuncture, moxibustion, and herb medication were performed. To evaluate the effect of the treatments, articulation accuracy, vowel accuracy, and the sequential motion rate of articulator were checked.Result: After treatments for 28 days, the symptoms were improved.Conclusion: This report suggests that five-element acupuncture can be effectively used for patients with Broca’s aphasia after cerebral infarction.

The author investigated the modified Broca's index that could be applied to Korean adults, what is called Korean Broca's Index, with 2322 apparently healthy subjects of 20-59 years old in order to obtain the index which could be used to estimate the standard body weight of Korean adults. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Linear regression equation of body weight to height was Y (weight in kg)=0.7195 X (height in cm)-57.9746 in male, and V (weight in kg)=0.4288 X (height in cm)-16.6528 in female. 2. Estimated constant that could be applied to Korean Broca's Index was 0.93 in male and 0.89 in female, and these sexual difference was statistically significant. (P<0.01)

출생 후 0일, 7일, 14일, 21일 그리고 성체의 흰쥐 전뇌 기저부의 내측중격핵과 수직 및 수평대각 Broca대에서 choline acetyltransferase(ChAT)에 면역반응을 보이는 신경조직과 세포의 분화를 면역조직화학적 및 전자현미경적 방법을 이용하여 조사하였다. 출생 후 초기와 성체에서 신경세포의 세포질과 수상돌기에서 고루 ChAT 면역반응이 확인되었다. 뇌 기저부의 ChAT 면역반응 신경세포들은 발생에 따른 뇌 크기의 증대와 뇌 조직의 분화에 따라 점차 수적 증가를 보였다. 이 ChAT 면역반응 신경세포들은 세포의 모양과 세포제의 장 · 단축의 비에 따라 6가지 형 즉 1) 월형 2) 난형, 3) 세장형, 4) 방추형. 5) 삼각형, 6) 다각형으로 분류되었다 전뇌 기저 핵에서 원형과 난형 신경세포들의 출현율은 출생 후 0일에서 높았으나 성체로 되면서 감소된 반면, 세장형. 방추형. 삼각형 그리고 다각형 신경세포들의 출현율은 출생 후 0일에서는 낮았으나 성체로 되면서 증가하였다. 모든 핵들에서 ChAT 면역반응 신경세포체의 부피는 출생 후 0일에 996-1,252 Um3로 제일 작았으며, 내측중격핵과 수직대각 Broca대 그리고 수평대각 Broca대에서는 출생 후 21일에 각각 5,061, 5.701, 5,820 um3로 최대치를 보였다. 그후 성체로 되면서 모든 핵에서1,897-2,704 roms로 다시 감소하였다. 전자현미경적 관찰에서 출생 후 21일된 흰쥐 수평대각 Broca대에서 ChAT 면역반응은 핵의 핵질 일부와 핵막 그리고 미토콘드리아와 조면소포체에서 관찰되었다. 이 결과들로 미루어 출생 후 초기 발생단계에서 흰쥐 전뇌 기저부의 내측중격핵과 수직 및 수평대각 Broca대에서 ChAT 면역반응 신경세포들은 축삭과 수상돌기의 형성에 따라 세포의 형과 그 출현율 및 세포제의 크기에서 현저한 변화가 이루어지는 것으로 생각된다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences in body fat distribution between obese boys and girls in high school and the relationship between the precent of body fat and the Broca Index. The survey of data was conducted from November 3rd to the 11th in 1997. The data were analyzed by the use of a mean, standard deviation and a Pearson's correlation coefficient. Measurements of the percentage of body fat and lean body mass were made by a Bioelectrical Impedence while height, weigh and the Broca index were measured by a fatness measuring system. First, measurements of height, weight and the Broca index were made by a fatness measuring system on 1,125 1st year students and 1,076 2nd year students. The result of measurements, 216 obese boys and 100 obese girls appeared to have above 10% of the Broca index. The result of this study can be summarized as follows: 1) Obese boys and girls were grouped by the level of the Broca index as follows: boys, 110-less than 120 60.0%, 120-less than 130 20.8%, 130-less than 140 11.1%, above 140 7.4%. ; girls, 110-less than 120 44.4%, 120-less than 130 32.0%, 130-less than 140 13.0%, above 140 11.0%. 2) Obese boys and girls were grouped by level of the percentage of body fat by Bioelectrical Impedence as follows: boys, less than 20% 5%, 20%-less than 25% 34.7%, above 25% 33.8% ; girls. less than 25% 15.0%, 25%-less than 30% 43.0%, above 30% 42.0%. 3) In obese boys the Broca index score appeared to be positively related to body weight(r = .741, p<.001), the percent of body fat(r=.604, p<.001), lean body mass(r=.375, p<.001), body fluid(r=.445, p<.001l). On the other hand the percent of body fat was not a significant correlation of lean body mass (r= -.074), body fluid(r= -.073). 4) In obese girls, the Broca index score appeared to be positively related to body weight(r= .693, p<.001), the percent of body fat(r=.645, p<.001), lean body mass(r=.531, p<.001), body fluid(r=.532, p<.01), and the percent of body weight score appeared to be positively related to lean body mass(r=.206, p<.01), body fluid(r=.207, p<.01).

Objective: The aim of this case report was to present the effects of traditional Korean medicine on a patient with Broca's aphasia associated with cerebral hemorrhage after middle cerebral artery infarction. Methods: The Korean version of the Western Aphasia Battery (K-WAB) and the Evaluation of Articulator Performance were used to evaluate the language functions of the patient. Herbal medication and acupuncture were administered to improve the patient's symptoms. Results: The inpatient and outpatient treatments improved the patient's symptoms. The aphasia quotient (AQ) score of the K-WAB test before treatment was 6.4, but it increased to 21.4 after treatment. The Evaluation of Articulator Performance score improved by 0.0 points before treatment, by 1.0 points after 9 days of treatment, and by 1.5 points after 42 days of treatment. Conclusions: This case report suggest that Korean medical therapy can be effective in improving the language functions of patients with Broca's aphasia.

This study attempted to determine the effects of a context-based drawing task on the language expression of a severe Wernicke's and Broca's aphasic. The subjects in this study showed a poor auditory comprehension and naming performance. They also showed paraphasia and perseveration. This study focused on improving language expression by a drawing task based on conversation at hand. Ten target words were chosen which were easily drawnable and familiar to the subjects. The results showed that the context-based drawing task was effective on improving the subjects' confrontation naming ability and expressive language ability in terms of explanation of sentences. In addition, the Broca's aphasic showed improved naming ability when the contextual cues were given and he was supposed to spontaneously name words.

This study investigated the improvement level of communication ability by mediation method using Cheap Talk in four severe Broca's aphasia patients, who have more difficulties in expression than comprehension. In the preliminary and post test, making nutritious rice dish and vegetable pancakes were performed. In the mediation stage, the activities of going to markets, making kimchi and bean paste soup were performed and script activities were performed in the first week and activities using picture cards were executed in the next week by turns. The results of this study were as follows. First, the communication functions of all subjects were improved under all of the courses using Cheap Talk. Second, the method of mediation by using picture cards showed higher communication functions than the method of mediation by using script activity with the use of Cheap Talk.

Familial Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (fCJD) is characteristic with older age onset, relatively low occurrence rate, slower progression and lower possibility of developing myoclonus, cerebellar, pyramidal signs and visual disturbance compared with classical sporadic CJD. We report a case of 75-year-old male patient presented with sudden onset of right side weakness with Broca's aphasia who has been diagnosed with fCJD with V180I mutation. This case indicates that fCJD with V180I mutation can have stroke-like initial presentation.

모성보건관리대책수립을 위한 기초자료를 제공할 목적으로 부산지역에 거주하는 $20{\sim}30$세 사이의 건강한 비임신 여성 167명과 임신부 209명을 대상으로 혈청총코레스테롤 함량과 이에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 생리적 제 인자간의 관련성을 조사한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 건강여성군과 임신부간에 체중의 증가에 따른 Broca's index의 상승을 제외할 신장, 수축기 및 이완기혈압치에는 큰 차이가 없었다. 2. 건강여성군의 혈청총코레스테롤함량은 165.9 mg/dl, 임신부는 212.6 mg/dl로서 유의한 차이가 있었으나 연령에 따른 차이는 관찰할 수 없었으며 함량별 분포양상은 양자 모두 정규분포형을 나타내었다. 3. 건강여성군에서는 혈청총코레스테롤함량과 체중 및 Broca's index간에 임신부에서는 체중, Broca's index 및 임신기간간에 통계적으로 유의한 상관성이 있었다. 4. 체중별 혈청총코레스테롤함량은 건강여성군은 $162.9{\sim}189.4mg/dl$, 임신부는 $167.2{\sim}246.2mg/dl$로서 체중이 증가됨에 따라 그치도 증가되는 경향이 있었으며 특히 임신부의 경우에 더욱 현저하였다. 5. 임신기간별 혈청총코레스테롤함량은 12주이하군 168.1 mg/dl, $13{\sim}26$주군 209.6 mg/dl, 27주이상군 235.4 mg/dl로서 임신이 진행됨에 따라 그 치도 높아지는 경향이 있었으며 함량별분포양상은 모두 정규분포형을 나타내었다.
