Analysis of Storytelling in On-line Personal Game Broadcasting (온라인 개인 게임 방송의 스토리텔링 분석)

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze storytelling in on-line personal game broadcasting in order to find out unique characteristics of on-line personal game broadcasting. This study selects Youtube channel and as classic cases of on-line personal game broadcasting, and analyzes the cases with Bakhtin's theory of carnival. The on-line personal game broadcasting modifies the broadcasting format of mass media externally. Also, the on-line personal game broadcasting internally moves between interior and exterior of the game text in order to create new narrative events. In this process, the polyphonic utterances of the broadcasting host appeared. The reversal of the tragedy and the comedy leads the audience to catharsis.

  • Since 2008 when IPTV service entered the broadcasting market, the competition among interactive broadcasting media has been growing more and more fierce. To make a market strategy under the harsh competition, this study tried to make an IPTV customer segmentation based on the characteristics of interactive broadcasting media. From previous literature, this study drew five characteristics of interactive broadcasting media : ease of use, two-way communications, active control, variety of content, and economic efficiency. Two-step clustering based on these characteristics identified four customer segments. There were statistically significant differences in the five characteristics among the customer segments. This study profiled the customer segments and proposed competitive strategies for each customer segment.

  • The recent broadcasting environment has shifted to embrace multimedia and multi-channel features through terrestrial, satellite and cable media. This has multiplied the number of broadcasting programs. With the information on a myriad of programs provided to TV viewers, information overload occurs, and thus, the TV viewing environment is shifting to one where viewers cannot select programs passively. Thus, a growing need is emerging to ensure a personalized electronic program guide (EPG) to help individuals select TV programs according to their taste. This paper presents a personalized EPG that enables a purpose-oriented broadcasting service to provide personalized broadcasting programs in tune with the user's requirements and preferences.

  • Terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting(T-DMB) is one of mobile broadcasting services, and the commercial service was started in December 2005 in Korea. The performance targets of T-DMB are providing VCD(video CD) quality video and FM radio quality audio. In recent years, the researches for providing high quality video or audio service on T-DMB environments have been being carried out. To provide high-quality video or audio service, some additional data should be transmitted to the receiver as well as T-DMB video and audio data. Since the data rate for one T-DMB program is low, it is important to transmit the additional data at a low bit rate. In this paper, we propose a packetizing method for efficient transmission of the additional data to provide multichannel audio service on T-DMB environment.

  • DRM 기술의 호환성 부재는 콘텐츠 소비 활성화에 큰 장애물로 부각되고 있다. 현재 상호운용적인 DRM 기술 개발을 위하여 다양한 산업체와 기관들이 DRM 기술에 대한 표준화 단체를 조성하고 이 문제를 해결하기 위해 노력하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 툴 개념을 기반으로 서로 다른 DRM 간의 상호운용성(interoperability)을 지원하는 방법에 대하여 설명한다.

  • In this paper, we present a design and implementation of a personalized broadcasting system using TV-Anytime metadata for providing personalized services. The TV-Anytime specifies metadata schema, metadata coding and delivery, and provides service models to provide personalized broadcasting content services at anytime when users want to consume using metadata, which includes ECG (Electronic Content Guide) and content descriptive information in a PDR (Personal Digital Recorder)-centric environment. The proposed personalized broadcasting system consists of a server that provides metadata binary-coding, encapsulation and multiplexing, and a client terminal that takes charge of de-multiplexing, metadata decoding, and metadata processing for personalized content accessing and consumption. This paper presents the details of the design of each functional module, and the evaluation results with a set of service scenarios in an end-to-end broadcasting test-bed.

Color Noise Reduction Method in Non-constant Luminance Signal for High Dynamic Range Video Service

  • A high dynamic range (HDR) video service is an upcoming issue in the broadcasting industry. For compatibility with legacy devices receiving a non-constant luminance (NCL) signal, new tools supporting an HDR video service are required. The current pre-processing chain of HDR video can produce color noise owing to the chroma component down-sampling process for video encoding. Although a luma adjustment method has been proposed to solve this problem, some disadvantages still remain. In this paper, we present an adaptive color noise reduction method for an NCL signal of an HDR video service. The proposed method adjusts the luma component of an NCL signal adaptively according to the information of the luma component from a constant luminance signal and the level of color saturation. Experiment results show that the color noise problem is resolved by applying our proposed method. In addition, the speed of the pre-processing is increased more than two-fold compared to a previous method.

  • Recently, broadcasting companies have been faced with changes in social environment, particularly, the emergence of new media, including the internet, cable TV and DMB, and in the political environment, such as convergence in broadcasting and communications media. To cope with these changes, broadcasting companies are showing increasing interest in building new broadcasting information systems. This study presents how to develop a web-based broadcasting information system for the small and medium-sized broadcasting company. For developing the system, the study describes system configuration, business function relationship diagrams and business flow diagrams, entity relationship diagrams, major programs, and graphic user interfaces. The newly developed web-based broadcasting information system is expected to increase business productivity to a significant extent through faster decision-making and business execution in and out of the company.

  • 본 논문에서는 시간적 움직임 벡터 성분 값을 절삭하여 시간적 움직임 벡터를 저장하는데 필요한 메모리 요구량을 감소하는 방법에 대해서 제안한다. HEVC 에서 시간적 움직임 벡터는 움직임 병합 모드와 향상된 움직임 벡터 예측 방법에서 부호화 효율 향상을 위해서 사용되고 있다. 하지만 부호화해야 할 원본 영상의 공간적 해상도 및 비트 심도가 증가함에 따라 메모리에 저장할 시간적 움직임 벡터의 데이터뿐만 아니라 메모리 접근 대역폭도 크게 증가한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 시간적 움직임 벡터 성분의 비트 심도를 조절한 후 메모리에 저장하는 방법에 대해서 제안한다. 제안하는 방법을 HM 2.0 에 구현하고 HEVC 표준화에서 사용되는 임의접근 및 저지연 실험 조건에서 실험했을 때, 평균 0.2%의 비트율 손실을 보이지만, 필요한 메모리 요구량을 약 반 정도 줄일 수 있다.

  • Technology for compressing low-bitrate multichannel audio coding is being standardized owing to the increasing need of consumer for multichannel audio contents. In this paper we propose the sound source location cue coding (SSLCC) for extremely compressing multichannel audio to be suitable at the narrow bandwidth transmission environment. To improve the compression capability of the conventional binaural cue coding(BCC), the SSLCC adopts the virtual source location information (VSLI) as a spatial cue parameter, a symmetric uniform quantizer, and Huffman coder. The objective and subjective assessment results show that the SSLCC provides lower bitrate and better audio quality than conventional BCC method.
