  • Steel piling for abutments of new and replacement bridges can be aesthetically attractive and cost effective. Use of embedded steel sheet piling brings savings in dead load, provides a compliant retaining wall, and permits speedier construction. In addition, for replacement bridge projects, traffic interruption can be minimized. It is hoped that this study will encourage designers and constructors to consider a steel substructure option more frequently during the conceptual and preliminary design phases of projects and thereby to take advantage of the Potential to construction more efficiently.

우리나라 근해대형트롤어선의 선교 환경과 업무가 선교팀의 피로도와 신체이상에 미치는 영향 (Effects on bridge team's work fatigue and body abnormality by bridge environment and tasks of Korean coastal large trawlers)

  • This study carried out and analyzed survey data on captains and mates of Korean coastal large trawlers in order to examine factors affecting body abnormalities and fatigue on bridge teams from work and environment at bridges of trawlers. The summarized result may be summed up as follows: multiple regression analysis with body pain and fatigue as dependent variables yields t-values of -2.559 (p<0.05) and -3.928 (p<0.05) respectively. From the result, environment at bridges (views, spaces and exhaust) were negative factors in affecting bridge workers' pain and fatigue. Thus, it is determined to secure available spaces to improve the workers' views through windows in front of, besides and rear bridge and create more pleasant atmospheric environment at bridge.

A New Half-bridge Resonant Inverter with Load-Freewheeling Modes

  • This paper presents a new circuit topology and its digital control scheme for a half-bridge resonant inverter. As the proposed half-bridge inverter can be operated in load-freewheeling modes, the pulse-width modulation (PWM) method can be used for the output power control. The proposed half-bridge inverter is based on the resonant frequency-tracking algorithm with the goal of maintaining the unity of the output displacement factor of the load impedance even in varying conditions. In this paper, the operation principle, electrical characteristics, and detailed digital control scheme of the proposed half-bridge resonant inverter are described. The experimental results of the prototype experimental setup to verify the validity of the proposed half-bridge inverter are presented and discussed.

After-fracture redundancy in simple span two-girder steel bridge

  • An experimental study to evaluate a redundancy capacity in simple span two plate-girder bridges, which are generally classified as a non-redundant load path structure, has been performed under the condition that one of the two girders is seriously damaged. The bottom lateral bracing was selected as an experimental parameter and two 1/5-scale bridge specimens with and without bottom lateral bracing have been prepared. The loading tests were first performed on the intact specimens without cracked girder within elastic range. Thereafter, the ultimate loading tests were conducted on the damaged specimens with an induced crack at the center of a girder. The test results showed that the cross beams and concrete deck redistributed partly the applied load to the uncracked girder, but the lateral bracing system played a significant role of the load redistribution when a girder was damaged. The redundancy was evaluated based on the test results and an appropriate redundancy level was evaluated when the lateral bracing was provided in a seriously damaged simple span two-girder steel bridge.

Performance assessment of advanced hollow RC bridge column sections

  • This study investigates the performance of advanced hollow reinforced concrete (RC) bridge column sections with triangular reinforcement details. Hollow column sections are based on economic considerations of cost savings associated with reduced material and design moments, as against increased construction complexity, and hence increased labor costs. The proposed innovative reinforcement details are economically feasible and rational, and facilitate shorter construction periods. We tested a model of advanced hollow column sections under quasi-static monotonic loading. The results showed that the proposed triangular reinforcement details were equal to the existing reinforcement details, in terms of the required performance. We used a computer program, Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology (RCAHEST), for analysis of the RC structures; and adopted a modified lateral confining effect model for the advanced hollow bridge column sections. Our study documents the testing of hollow RC bridge column sections with innovative reinforcement details, and presents conclusions based on the experimental and analytical findings. Additional full-scale experimental research is needed to refine and confirm the design details, especially for the actual detailing employed in the field.

  • 인적오류는 해양사고의 중요한 원인이고, 인적오류의 식별은 해양사고 예방에 근간이 된다. 특히, 선교팀(항해사와 조타수)이 주어진 상황에서 취한 기술적인 행동 패턴은 인적오류 식별에 중요한 정보를 제공한다. 본 연구의 목적은 익수자 구조를 위한 윌리암슨 선회법(Williamson's Turn)을 이용하여 선교팀들의 기술적인 행동 패턴을 식별하고 분석하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위한 본 연구의 핵심은 실험을 실시하는 과정에서 나타난 선교팀의 인적 행동 요인에 대한 인지모델을 구축하고 분석하는 것이다. 실험환경은 선박조종 시뮬레이터를 이용하여 구축하고, 24개 선교팀으로 구성된 참가자들을 대상으로 실험을 진행하였다. 실험결과, 방향타와 기관을 사용한 항적유지와 선박조종에 대한 행동 패턴을 식별할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 선원의 자격 및 훈련에 적용하여 선교팀의 인적오류를 보완하고 보정하는데 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • 토압분리형 일체식 교대 교량은 일체식 교대 교량의 문제점을 개선하고자 Nam et al.(2016)에 의해 개발되었다. 본 연구에서는 IPM Bridge의 파일벤트의 돌출높이(H), 근입심도(L) 및 지반의 조건에 대한 매개변수 특성을 검토하기 위해 p-y 해석을 수행하였다. 그 결과, IPM Bridge의 파일벤트 두부는 상부구조와 일체화되어 최대 휨모멘트가 발생되었다. 해석에 사용된 지반조건에 따르면, 지중의 사질토와 풍화토의 경계면에서 최대 전단력이 발생되었다. 파일벤트의 최대 부재력과 비지지길이는 돌출높이와 근입심도의 비(L/H)가 1.0일 때 수렴되었으며, 파일벤트의 돌출높이보다 근입심도가 작을 경우에는 부재력이 과다하게 발생된다. p-y 해석 결과, 횡 방향 변위는 파일벤트의 근입깊이가 커질수록 뚜렷한 변곡점을 나타내었으며, 근입깊이가 작아질수록 완만한 곡선이 되었다.

Structural performance assessment of deteriorated reinforced concrete bridge piers

  • The aim of this study is to assess the structural performance of deteriorated reinforced concrete bridge piers, and to provide method for developing improved evaluation method. For a deteriorated bridge piers, once the cover spalls off and bond between the reinforcement and concrete has been lost, compressed reinforcements are likely to buckle. By using a sophisticated nonlinear finite element analysis program, the accuracy and objectivity of the assessment process can be enhanced. A computer program, RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), is used to analyze reinforced concrete structures. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. Advanced deteriorated material models are developed to predict behaviors of deteriorated reinforced concrete. The proposed numerical method for the structural performance assessment of deteriorated reinforced concrete bridge piers is verified by comparing it with reliable experimental results. Additionally, the studies and discussions presented in this investigation provide an insight into the key behavioral aspects of deteriorated reinforced concrete bridge piers.

철도 교각의 세굴 안정성 평가를 위한 응답 지배주파수 분석 (Response Dominant Frequency Analysis for Scour Safety Evaluation of Railroad Piers)

  • 철도 교량 하부구조의 안정성 평가를 위해 일련의 충격진동시험을 수행하고, 계측된 가속도 시간이력 데이터를 분석하여 응답 지배주파수를 산정하였다. 실험 교각의 제원은 준공설계 자료를 참고하였으며 자료가 소실된 경우에는 현장 조사를 시행하여 확보하였다. 1개의 폐선 예정 교각에서 세굴 진행에 따른 충격진동시험을 수행하고, 이를 바탕으로 교각의 응답 지배주파수가 교각의 세굴 여부에 대한 평가 지표로 적용 가능한 것을 확인하였다. 또한, 실제 운영 중인 5개 교량 46개 교각에서 충격하중시험을 통해 응답 지배주파수를 산정하였으며, 이를 일본 기준식과 비교하여 교량의 세굴 안정성을 평가하였다.
