  • This paper has been fabricated the two different type of variable attenuators using a characteristics of a 3 dB directional coupler and pin diodes. One was not analyzed using the conventional even-odd modes but used simple two-port techniques. The resulting scattering parameters described operation characteristics for the general case where the terminating impedances are equal and unequal. After analyzing resistor role of the ${\pi}$ type fixed attenuator. this paper used a pin diode instead of a resistor. The variable attenuators were fabricated using pin diodes for current-controlled attenuation on the coupled ports of a 3 dB branch-line coupler and ${\pi}$ type fixed attenuator. The realized variable attenuators have more than 33 dB attenuation ranges at 2.1 GHz. and the input and output reflection coefficients are less than -13 dB. These results could be applied to mobile communication systems. It can be varied gain of the power amplifier according to change a outdoor environmental temperature and improved linearity.

  • Partial Discharge (PD) is a physical phenomenon, which causes defects and damages to the insulation. This phenomenon is regarded as the most important source of fault and defect in power transformers. Therefore, methods of high speed and precision are considered of special importance for the maintenance of transformers in localization of the origin of partial discharge. In this paper, the transformer winding is first modeled in a transient state by using RLC ladder network and multiconductor transmission line (MTL) models. The parameters of the two models were calculated by Ansoft Maxwell software, and the simulations were performed by Matlab software. Then, the PD pulses were applied to the models with different widths of pulses. With regard to the fact that the signals received after the application of PD had a variable frequency nature over time, and based on the wavelet transform and signal energy, a new method was presented for the localization of PD. Ultimately; the mentioned method was implemented on a 20 kV winding distribution transformer. Then, the performances of the models used in this paper, including RLC and MTL models, were compared in different frequency bands for the correct distinction of partial discharge location.

  • In this paper, we propose a new switch structure for time division duplex(TDD) system. The existing TDD structure utilizes a circulator fur isolation characteristic between ports. However, the circulator produces intermodulation distortion signals which are undesired signal because of its nonlinear properties. The proposed circuit is composed of a modified branch-line hybrid coupler which controls the signal flow while the isolated port is open-/short- terminated. In order to prove the validity of the presented structure, the switch circuit is fabricated and measured at 2.3GHz, the center frequency of Wibro service system.

  • The escape behavior of prey fish to predator attack is directly linked to the survival of the fish. In this study, I explored the escape behavior of Medaka fish to bird attacks. To simulate the attack, I designed a model triangular-shaped bird to slide along a fishing line connected between rods at both ends of the tank. The triangular shape was set to 10×15 (S=1), 15×20 (S=2), and 20×25 cm (S=3) with base×height. The slope (θ) of the fishing line, which determines the attack speed of the model bird, was set to values of 15° (θ=1), 30° (θ=2), and 45° (θ=3). The escape behavior was characterized using five variables: escape speed (ν), escape acceleration (α), responsiveness (γ), branch length similarity entropy (ε), and alignment (ϕ). The experimental results showed when (S, θ)=(fixed, varied), the change in values of the five variables were not significant. Thus, the fish respond more sensitively to S than to θ In contrast, when (S, θ)=(varied, fixed), ν, α, and γ showed increasing trends but ε and ϕ did not change much. This indicates the nature of fish escape behavior irrespective of the threat is inherent in ε and ϕ. I found that fish escape behavior can be divided into two types for the five physical quantities. In particular, the analysis showed that the type was mainly determined by the size of the model bird.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm for the countermeasure to alleviate without shedding system loads the line overloads due to contingency in power system. This method for relieving by line switching is based on obtaining the line outage distribution factors - the linear sensitivity factors, which give the amount of change in the power flow of each line due to the removal of same other line in the power system. These factors are made up of the elements of Bus Reactance Matrix and branch reactances. In this paper a fast algorithm and program is presented for obtaining only the required Bus Reactance elements which corresponds to a non - zero elements of Bus Admittance Matrix and elements of columns which correspond to two terminal Buses of the overloaded(monitored) line. The proposed algorithm has been validated in tests on the 6 busbar test system

  • Purpose: Trochanteric pressure sores management has been improved through the development of musculocutaneous flaps. But it has many drawbacks such as donor site morbidity and functional muscle sacrifice. With the introduction of perforator flap, it is possible to use in every location where musculocutaneous perforators are present. We have reconstructed trochanteric pressure sores using perforator-based flaps from the ascending branch of lateral circumflex femoral artery. Methods: Between May of 2006 and April of 2008, we performed six cases of perforator-based flap from the ascending branch of lateral circumflex femoral artery for the coverage of trochanteric pressure sores. For identifying perforators, a line was drawn from the anterior superior iliac spine to the superolateral border of the patella as the vertical axis, from the pubis to the trochanteric prominence as the horizontal axis. In the lateral aspect of the intersection of these two axes, various flap were designed according to its defects. The flap was raised in the subcutaneous plane above the fascia and the pedicle was traced by doppler and identified. The pedicle was meticulously dissected not to injure the periadventitial tissues and transposed to the defect. The donor site was closed primarily. Results: The mean age of patients was 56.2 years. Four male and two female patients were studied. Five patients were paraplegic. The mean defect size was $6{\times}4\;cm$. The largest flap dimension was $14{\times}7\;cm$. Donor sites were closed primarily without any complications. All flaps survived completely without necrosis, hematoma or infection. There were no recurrence during the follow-up period. Conclusion: Trochanteric pressure sores using perforator-based flap from the ascending branch of lateral circumflex femoral artery can be performed safely and it would be a reliable option for coverage of trochanteric pressure sores with minimal donor site morbidity.

  • This study was conducted to examine the effects of pruning season on the compartmentalization of pruning wounds in Acer palmatum and Pinus strobus. A total of eighty five field-grown trees for each species were allocated to five different seasons, early- and late-winter, mid-spring, mid- and late-summer, for pruning treatments. Wound closure rate (WCR) of the two species for one year after treatment, area of discolored stem tissue on the medial longitudinal surface and cambial dieback length under the pruning wound of A. palmatum were measured. Changes of total phenols and variations of extractives, holocellulose and lignin at the treated branch unions were examined. In WCR of A. palmatum, late-winter (March, 39.8%) and mid-spring (May, 39.7%) were higher than any other seasons, while early-winter (November, 28.4%) was significantly lower than late-winter and mid-spring. P. strobus showed similar results with A. palmatum. The WCR of early-winter (57.2%) was the lowest significantly among the five seasons, and mid-spring (73.5%) and late-winter (71.4%) showed higher a WCR than other seasons. In the discolored/wound area ratio of A. palmatum, early-winter (73.2%) was the highest by far, and mid- (July) and latesummer (September, 36.7%, respectively) were the lowest among the five seasons. In the length of cambial dieback, two dormant seasons, early- and late-winter were longer than any other seasons. Phenol contents at the treated branch union were changed in line with the seasonal fluctuation of the tree. Total phenols in the below core of the treated union were higher than those of the branch union with living branch, while little differences were seen in the above core. At the branch core of the treated union, phenols of A. palmatum decreased one month after the treatments, but P. strobus maintained similar to or a little higher than those at the controls. The major changes in chemical composition at pruning wounds were extractives and lignin increased by less than 20% in A. palmatum, while extractives in P. strobus remarkably increased by 70%.

  • This convergence study examines the case of the Andaz Hotel branches, which sees the critical elements of a characteristic boutique hotel as an experience and makes a successful case with rich experience content in the hotel. By examining sixteen experience content categories, eight from the Andaz India Delhi branch and Tokyo branch in Japan and analyzing them through Schmitt's five experience modules, we have found that both branches had strong experience content in most of the modules, in line with the brand philosophy of creating hotels that make the most of the local characteristics. The study also showed that the Toranomon Hills branch had stronger emotional experience contents than the Delhi branch, and the Delhi branch had a little stronger in the case of cognitive experience contents. Both branches were found to have rich experience content at various points encountered by the guests while using the hotel.

  • This paper presents a branch prediction algorithm and a 4-way set-associative cache for performance improvement of embedded RISC core and a clock-gating algorithm using ODC (Observability Don't Care) operation to improve the power consumption of the core. The branch prediction algorithm has a structure using BTB(Branch Target Buffer) and 4-way set associative cache has lower miss rate than direct-mapped cache. Pseudo-LRU Policy, which is one of the Line Replacement Policies, is used for decreasing the number of bits that store LRU value. The clock gating algorithm reduces dynamic power consumption. As a result of estimation of performance and dynamic power, the performance of the OpenRISC core applied the proposed architecture is improved about 29% and dynamic power of the core using Chartered $0.18{\mu}m$ technology library is reduced by 16%.

  • Taking an opportunity of the application of clearcutting method, 140 red pine (Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc.) trees grown at Chon-nam province, the southern part of South Korea, were fellen and the tree height, clear-bole length, D.B.H. diameter at base(0.2m above from the ground line) and the length of the longest branch were measured. The correlation between factors mentioned were analysed. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The correlation between crown length and tree height (r=0.821) was sinificant. 2. The correlation between the diameter at base and D.B.H. was highly significant (r=0.961). D.B.H. can be calculated from multiplying the diameter at base by 0.88. 3. A weak relation between D.B.H and tree height was abserved. 4. The positive correlation between tree height and clear-bole-length was calculated, but it was not sharp between D.B.H. and the length of the longest branch. 5. The height, basal area, D.B.H. and volume increment by tree class calculated from the data of the stem analysis are presented (Tab. 3~10).
