A Study on the Design Technology for Automobile Front Subframe Module (자동차 프런트 서브프레임 모듈 설계기술에 대한 연구)

  • Even in the world wide automobile companies where a few simple modules are put into practical use, the front subframe modules of which performances of durability, NVH and crash are significantly important are under planing. In this study, design technology for the automobile front subframe module, which consists of an engine, a transmission and steering parts, structural components (frame, upper arm, lower arm and brake etc.) and rubber components(engine mount, axle mount and rubber disc etc.), was developed. A FEM-based analytical approach was used to evaluate the multiaxial high cycle fatigue damage of the front subframe module. Strain-life fatigue database system and expert system for fatigue properties of welded materials were developed. Stiffness values of the various rubber bushes mounted on the front subframe were evaluated by experimental method and FEM. TWB(Tailor Welded Blank) technology was applied to forming the cross member of the front subframe. Performance evaluations in relation to NVH and crash were conducted by using CAE technologies.

  • This paper partially presents a Hierachical neural network architecture for providing the intelligent control of complex Automatic Transmission(A/T) system which is usually nonlinear and hard to model mathematically. It consists of the module to apply or release an engine brake at the slope and that to judge the intention of the driver. The HNN architecture simplifies the structure of the overall system and is efficient for the learning time. This paper describes how the sub-neural networks of each module have been constructed and will compare the result of the intelligent A/T control to that of the conventional shift pattern.

  • As life expectancy becomes longer, reduction of human muscular strength threatens quality of human life. Many robotic devices have thus been developed to support and help human daily life. This paper deals with a new type of in-wheel actuator that can be effectively used for the robotic devices. BLDC motor, drive board, brake, ARS (Attribute Reference System), and torque sensor are combined in the single actuator module. The torque sensor is used to recognize human intention and the in-wheel actuator drives walking aids in our system. Its feasibility was tested with the active walking aid device equipped with the in-wheel actuator. Based on it, we designed an admittance filter algorithm to react on uphill and downhill drive. By adjusting mass, damping, and spring parameters in accordance with the ARS output, it provided convenient drive to the old on uphill and downhill walks.

  • Hydraulic winches for transportation and logistics in the shipbuilding and marine plant fields require multi-stage planetary gear modules with high gear ratios. Due to environmental conditions in the ship, durability is crucial. Further, we are currently relying on foreign products. The development of domestic technology will reduce cost, save time, and improve the export market. Thus, we developed a multi-stage planetary gear module for a hydraulic winch and evaluated its performance through several tests of the hydraulic brake torque, maximum torque, and load endurance.

  • The automotive market has recently been investing much time and costs in improving existing technologies such as ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and TCS (Traction Control System) and developing new technologies. Additionally, various methods have been applied and developed to reduce this. Among them, the development method using the simulation has been mainly used and developed. In this paper, we have studied a method to develop SILS (Software In the Loop Simulation) for TCS which can test various environment variables under the same conditions. We modeled hardware (vehicle engine and ABS module) and software (control logic) of TCS using MATLAB/Simulink and Carsim. Simulation was performed on the climate, road surface, driving course, etc. to verify the TCS logic. By using SILS to develop TCS control logic and controller, it is possible to verify before production and reduce the development period, manpower and investment costs.

  • The psychoacoustic quality of ABS is now considered more important than before as the focus of recent ABS function is expanded to basic function from typical emergency function. Thus, the automotive parts manufacturing companies are actively working to improve NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) in ABS module. In terms of time, test place, and cost, however, it is very inefficient to have all the operating noise validation test in real vehicle configuration especially for partially improved ABS module. To contribute to reducing the development period and to grasping the improvements faster, this research presents the study of a correlation to predict ABS operating noise inside vehicle via HILS rig test. The regression equation in this paper was statistically drawn from using Minitab S/W, and based on that equation, the noise spectrum of vehicle interior was analogized.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a walking assistance system with mobility support and life support functions so that the elderly with reduced physical ability and patients who are uncomfortable when moving can move comfortably indoors and outdoors, and help social life. An obstacle recognition sensor module that can be applied indoors and outdoors is installed on a lightweight walking aid. An obstacle recognition sensor module that can be applied indoors and outdoors is installed on a lightweight walking aid. It is a system structure of an integrated actuator and brake system that can avoid obstacles in consideration of the safety of the elderly and is easy to install on the device. In this paper, the design of a lightweight walking aid was designed to increase the convenience of the socially disadvantaged and the elderly with reduced exercise ability. In addition, in order to overcome the disadvantage of being inconvenient to use indoors due to the noise and vibration of the motor during operation, an In-Wheel type motor is applied to develop and apply a low noise, low vibration and high efficiency drive system.

  • In this paper, dynamic performance of 4WD/4WS Electric-driven vehicles is investigated. A coupled dynamic model is introduced for longitudinal, lateral and yawing motion of 4WD/4WS vehicles. Based on the coupled model, dynamic performance is analyzed for steady-state steering, acceleration steering and brake steering, respectively. These non steady-state cornering analysis is important for non-paved road maneuvering, trajectory projection for armored vehicle and future AVCS(Advanced Vehicle Control System) technology. Simulation results are obtained based on a simulink module for the introduced model.

  • Life cycle costing is one of the most effective cost approaches when we choose a solution from series of alternative so the least long-term cost ownership is achieved. Life cycle costing in railway industry has been focused on the prediction of investment for railway vehicles. But in today, the life cycle cost, LCC, prediction on the aspect of operation and maintenance cost through whole life cycle is highly necessary. In this paper, we present a strategy for the development of life cycle cost estimation software on the aspect of maintenance strategies of railway vehicle. For this purpose, we suggested a structure of LCC software based on the UNIFE LCC model. And we developed a pilot version of software to evaluate the LCC model that we suggested for railway vehicle. We performed LCC analysis on the brake module of metro vehicle in case study and concluded that the software and model developed in this research could enough to support engineers in choosing better cost effective solutions from many alternatives.
