Analysis and Performance of the Self Excited Eddy Current Brake

  • This paper describes a performance analysis of self-excited eddy current brake(SECB). Stator winding of SECB is connected by capacitor instead of voltage source, and SECB's braking force is generated by L-C resonance. SECB has wide range of driving and nonlinear inductance as well. Therefore, it is important to select capacitance based on the value of inductance. This paper discusses about the process of deciding capacitance and the change of resonance frequency based on the inductance change in each speed. Also the braking force was confirmed by the experimental model of SECB.

  • Event-driven communication protocols such as CAN(Controller Area Network) have inherent packet delays due to the contention process for the use of network medium. These delays are stochastic in nature because most packets arrive at random time instants. The stochastic property of the delay adversely influences the control system's performance in terms of stability, responsiveness and steady-state error. Another problem for safety-critical application such as brake-by-wire systems is the reliability of the communication modules that can fail abruptly. This paper deals with two methods to overcome the above problems : (i) scheduling method that can maintain packet delays under some acceptable level, and (ii) redundancy management of communication modules that prescribes dual-redundancy modules' behavior when one of them fails.

  • This paper analyzes braking performance of ABS with Sliding Mode Controller, which is designed in this research and compared with that of a commercial ABS-ECU only. HILS system for this paper has an existing hydraulic brake line with an ECU of commercial passenger vehicle and it is designed to be cooperated with Sliding Mode Controller and hydraulic line. This paper shows the simulation results to meet the target slip ratio on the various road conditions and displays the performance with Sliding Mode Controller has an improvement than a commercial ABS.

  • 본 논문은 전기기계식제동장치(EMB : Electro Mechanical Brake, 이하 EMB)의 제동 압부력(clamping force) 제어방법과 제동시험장비(dynamo test equipment)를 활용한 제동성능 평가결과에 대하여 다룬다. EMB와 관련한 연구는 자동차 분야에서 대부분 수행되었으며, 다양한 제어방법에 대한 정적상태의 압부력 시험결과를 주로 다루고 있으나 본 논문은 동적상태에서의 성능평가를 수행하였다. EMB의 구동을 위해 3상 매입형 영구자석 동기전동기(IPMSM : Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, 이하 IPMSM)가 적용되었으며 유한요소법(FEM : Finite Element Method, 이하 FEM) 해석 소프트웨어인 JMAG을 통하여 설계 및 해석을 수행하였다. EMB의 압부력제어를 위해 전류제어, 속도제어 및 위치제어가 수행되었으며, 전류제어기는 단위전류당 최대토크제어(MTPA : Maximum Torque Per Ampere, 이하 MTPA)가 적용되었다. 제동성능평가는 공압식 제동장치의 비상제동 성능시험 절차와 동일한 방법으로 수행되었으며 시험장비에 설치된 고속철도차량의 차륜을 110 km/h, 230 km/h 및 300 km/h로 회전하는 상태에서 각각의 속도 조건에 따른 EMB의 제동 압부력을 인가하여 감속성능을 확인하였다. 최고속도(300 km/h) 상태에서 비상제동 시험결과는 73초의 시간이 소요되었으며 차세대고속철도차량(HEMU-430X)에 적용된 공압식 제동장치의 성능시험 결과와 비교를 통하여 제동소요 시간 및 감속패턴의 유사함 확인하였다.

  • Since the braking system of rolling stock is directly linked to it's safety, ensuring reliability of braking system and evaluation of performance of it are very important. To develope the performance of braking system, it is required advanced technology and gradually various factors in the field test result. This study is designed to analyze the air pressure control about braking force in rolling stock, also, by comparing braking force of high speed railway with that of high speed train. This paper suggests to establish a method of computation of braking force form the air pressure control. And The high speed train researches into patterns of braking system such as the train of speed up and introduction of electric and pneumatic braking system.

  • In this paper, it is to development of brake system with ABS function for aircraft. The test of brake system is required before applying on aircraft. The real-time dynamic simulator with 5-D.O.F. aircraft dynamic model is developed for braking performance test of ABS (Anti-skid Brake System) control h/w with anti-skid brake functions. The dynamic simulator is real-time interface system that is composed of dynamic simulation parts, master control parts, digital and analog in/out interface parts, and user interface parts. The 5-D.O.F. aircraft dynamic model is composed of a big contour and a little contour by simulation s/w. The big contour represents the interactions of forces in airframe, nose and main landing gear, and engines on the center of gravity. The little contour represents interactions of wheel, braking units, hydraulic units and a control unit. ABS control h/w unit with ABS control algorithm is also developed and is tested with simulator under the some conditions of gripping coefficient. We have known that ABS control h/w unit on wet or snowy runway as well as dry runway very well protects wheel skid.

  • This paper addresses a throttle/brake control law for stop and go cruise control systems which make the vehicle remain at a safe distance from a preceding vehicle according to the driver's preference, automatically slow down and come to a full stop behind a preceding vehicle. The uncertainties of vehicle model have been considered in the design of the control law. The effect of throttle/brake control has been investigated via simulations. The simulations were performed using a complete nonlinear vehicle model. The results indicate that the proposed throttle/brake control law can provide the stop and go cruise control system with a good distance tracking performance.

차량용 브레이크 제동력 평가 다이나모미터 개발 (Braking Force Test Evaluation Dynamometer Development of Vehicle)

  • 최근 자동차는 안전성, 편리성, 친환경 등의 목적으로 개발되고 있다. 특히, 자동차 안전성에 대한 인식이 중요하게 바뀌고 있다. 이에 따라, ADAS 개발로 인한 안전 시스템들이 등장하였다. 그러나 ADAS의 개발과 시험 평가를 통해 양산 되는 기간은 상당히 오래 걸린다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 ADAS 개발과 시험 평가에 필요한 기간을 단축시키기 위해 브레이크 다이나모미터를 개발 하였다. 또한 개발한 브레이크 다이나모미터는 국제 표준인 JIS D-0210을 만족하며, ADAS의 모드별로 사용자가 시험 조건과 시험 방법을 선택 하여 제동력을 평가할 수 있다. 그리고 개발하는 브레이크 다이나모미터의 신뢰성 검증을 위해 선행 연구에서 제안한 ACC, LKAS, AEB의 시나리오를 사용하였다. 개발한 브레이크 다이나모미터는 시험값과 선행 연구를 통해 제안된 ADAS 모드별 이론식에 의한 계산값을 비교하여 신뢰성을 검증하였다. 또한, 향후에는 ADAS의 실차시험이 불가능한 환경에서 ADAS 모드별 브레이크 부품의 성능 평가가 가능할 것으로 기대 된다.

회생제동 전자제어 유압모듈을 이용한 하이브리드 차량의 에너지 회수 알고리즘 개발 (Development of Energy Regeneration Algorithm using Electro-Hydraulic Braking Module for Hybrid Electric Vehicles)

  • In this paper, an energy regeneration algorithm is proposed to make the maximum use of the regenerative braking energy for a parallel hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) equipped with a continuous variable transmission(CVT). The regenerative algorithm is developed by considering the battery state of charge(SOC), vehicle velocity and motor capacity. The hydraulic module consists of a reducing valve and a power unit to supply the front wheel brake pressure according to the control algorithm. In order to evaluate the performance of the regenerative braking algorithm and the hydraulic module, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) is performed. In the HILS system, the brake system consists of four wheel brakes and the hydraulic module. Dynamic characteristics of the HEV are simulated using an HEV simulator. In the HEV simulator, each element of the HEV powertrain such as internal combustion engine, motor, battery and CVT is modelled using MATLAB/$Simulink^{(R)}$. In the HILS, a driver operates the brake pedal with his or her foot while the vehicle speed is displayed on the monitor in real time. It is found from the HILS that the regenerative braking algorithm and the hydraulic module suggested in this paper provide a satisfactory braking performance in tracking the driving schedule and maintaining the battery state of charge.

친환경 규제 원료를 제거한 마찰재의 마찰 특성에 관한 연구 (Tribological properties of the brake friction materials without environmentally regulated ingredients)

  • Friction characteristics of the brake friction materials without environmentally regulated ingredients were examined to find their role in the brake performance. Five friction materials were produced based on a nearcommercial formulation by changing the relative amount of potentially hazardous ingredients to health and environment, such as $Sb_2S_3$, potassium titanate, and brass fiber. Tribological properties of the friction materials were obtained using a scale dynamometer and Krauss type tribometer. Results showed that the excluded three ingredients played important synergetic effects on tribological properties in terms of fade resistance, wear resistance and friction effectiveness. In particular, brass fibers played important roles in the friction stability by providing excellent thermal diffusivity at the friction interface. Potassium titanate whiskers showed excellent fade resistance and wear resistance compared to the substituted barite. Antimony trisulfide, on the other hand, showed little effect on the high temperature fade resistance and wear resistance, while it increased friction effectiveness at moderate temperatures. The friction materials without the three ingredients showed severe fade, indicating antisynergy effects.
