  • Automotive companies have conducted a study for light weigh body and crash safety. But It is difficult to adapt a mass production because of formability with high strength steel in the conventional stamping process. Recently, Automotive maker in the Europe, USA, Japan has applied a hot stamping with boron steel in the body structure. Hot stamping technology spread fast in various body parts of automobile. Bumper beam has been applied in the foreign automotive company so much nowadays. In this study, We will optimize crash performance of bumper beam using hot stamping through comparison with conventional bumper beam.

  • Collision accident reconstruction algorithm are developed based on the deformation shape and severity of a car body. At first, the body stiffness equation representing the force-deformation relationship is derived using finite element analysis for head on collision of two cars. The database of deformation shapes and energies is constructed for five different collision configurations; each configuration contains three velocity conditions. Deformation shapes are obtained using a curve fitting method and result in cubic polynomials. Deformation energies are calculated using a stiffness equation and deformation data. Three algorithms are developed to reconstruct collision configuration compared with constructed database. The developed algorithms show reasonably good performance to find collisions conditions for some test problems.

  • Post swirl stator is an energy saving device to recover rotational energy of the propeller. To optimize the performance of post swirl stator in container vessels, computational fluid dynamics using body force method was introduced. A commercial code Fluent was used in conjunction with body force distributed on the surface of actuator disk which is located in the propeller plane to optimize pitch angle of the post swirl stator blade. This study showed that CFD is an important tool to simulate flow behind ship with propeller, rudder and post swirl stator.

  • In this paper, an efficient modeling method of wind turbine system is proposed using multi-body dynamics. This method is based on representing a wind turbine system as a multi-body system with several rigid bodies. Also, simulation software WINSIM is developed to evaluate performance of wind turbine system. Simulation results show that proposed modeling method and simulation software is efficient and reliable

  • Energy consumption is an important issue in body area networks (BANs). In this letter, we propose an energy efficient transmission power control scheme for IEEE 802.15.6 BANs, which can improve energy efficiency by adaptively adjusting the transmit power in an on-demand way to adapt to varying channel environments. Simulations are performed to evaluate the performance, and it is shown that the proposed power control scheme outperforms traditional ones in terms of energy efficiency without significant reliability degradation.

  • A Numerical simulation for the propulsion of axisymmetric body by contractive and dilative motion is carried out. The present analysis shows that a propulsive force can be obtained in highly viscous fluid by a contractive and dilative motion of axisymmetric body. An axisymmetric analysis code is developed with unstructured grid system for the simulation of complicated motion and geometry. The developed code is validated by comparing with the results of stokes approximation with the problem of uniform flow past a sphere in low Reynolds number($R_n=1$). The validated code is applied to the simulation of contractive and dilative motion of body. The simulation is extended to the analysis of waving surface with projecting part for finding out the difference of hydrodynamic performance according to the variation of waving surface configuration. The present study will be the basic research for the development of the propulsor of an axisymmetric micro-hydro-machine.

  • During static walking of a quadruped walking robot, stability of the robot depends on whether the projection of the mass center is located within the supporting area that is varying with leg motion and formed by standing legs. In this paper, force margin instead of the mass center was used to determine stability and body-tilting method was used to enhance it. On-line control of body tilting was realized with simple reaction feedback based on force margin of the static walking model of the robot instead of complicated calculation. Model reference on-line control where the model searches stable pose for predefined force margin also gave good walking performance.

  • More diversified and strengthened safety regulations require higher safety vehicle with less weight. The structural foam can play a role for restraining section distortion of main body members undergoing bending collapse at vehicle crash. In this study, using structural foam modeling technology, validated in previous work, the bending collapse characteristics were evaluated for two types of circular and actual vehicle body frame sections. With changing the foam filling method, outer panel thickness and section shape, load carrying capability and absorbed energy were observed. The results indicate valuable design strategy for effectively elevating bending collapse performance of body members with foam filled.

  • In present study, the deformation analysis and automotive body repair were analyzed with respect to collision types by case studies. As a result, lots of data for the automobile frame deformation caused by collision were collected and analyzed according to collision types. It was shown from the result that the frame deformation patterns were able to be roughly grouped by collision positions of vehicles. Repair plans of deformed frames could be carried on the measured data. It was shown that the deformed vehicle frames were sufficienty repaired to be normal in driving characteristics from the performance test of repaired vehicles.

  • This paper is concerned with an optimal control suspension system using the preview information of road input based on a quarter car model. The main purpose of the control is to combine good vibration isolation characteristics with improved attitude control. The optimal control law is derived with the use of calculus of variation, consisting of three parts. The first part is a full state feedback term that includes integral control acting on the suspension deflection to ensure zero steady-state deflection in response to static body forces and ramp road inputs. The second part is a feed-forward term which compensates for the body forces when they can be detected, and the third part depends on previewed road input. The performance of the suspension is evaluated in terms of frequency domain characteristics and time responses to ramp road input and cornering forces. The effects of each part of the suspension controller on the system behavior are examined.
