  • This study was conducted to identify the relationships between body type perception and emotional intelligence and sexual assertiveness of female college students. The study participants were 288 nursing students of two universities in Chungnam province. Data were collected by a self-administered questionnaire from March 1 to May 20, 2017. Collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 20.0 program. The higher the emotional intelligence, the higher the sexual assertiveness(r=.25, p<.001), but sexual assertiveness according to body type perception were not significant. Factors influencing sexual assertiveness were religion, time of first relationship, body mass index, and emotional intelligence, which accounted 18.7%. Therefore, interventions for improving sexual assertiveness of female college students should include interventions for improving emotional intelligence. Studies on the relationship between body type perception and sexual assertiveness of female college students should be conducted.

  • The organic and holistic recognition method about nature in east asian philosophy is also applied to the study of the human body in Korean medicine. In Korean medicine, the human body is being understood from a holistic point of view rather than a mechanical or reductive one. The main east asian philosophies are the heavens thought and the Yin-yang/Five Phase Theory. This study will explore the influence the general flow of heavens thought has on explaining the human body in Korean medicine and the formation of how the human body is perceived in "Huangdineijing"(黃帝內經). First, the primitive meaning of heaven was developed to include the natural heaven of Xia (夏), the lord heaven of Shang(商) and the moral heaven of Zhou(周) dynasties. Among these, the natural heaven notion of the Xia(夏) dynasty which recognized heaven as the one with the power to create everything. This was followed by Taoism which established the contrasting system of heaven and earth. Based on this, "Huangdineijing"(黃帝 內經) developed the perception of the human body, taking into account, heaven as the original substance to generate the human body through the mutual sympathy between heavenly energy and earthly form. The perspective of the correspondence between nature and human in "Huainantzu"(淮南子) and "L$\breve{u}$shichunqiu"(呂氏春秋) was succeeded by Tung Chung-Shu(董仲舒). Based on this development, the perception of the human body in "Huangdineijing"(黃帝內經) is related to the seasonal cycle and the notion of night and day to balance the physiology of the human body. It recognizes that its structure, shape, emotional state and physiological actions are correlated with heaven.

  • Research into the visual perception of human emotion to recognize an intention has traditionally focused on emotions of facial expression. Recently researchers have turned to the more challenging field of emotional expressions through body posture or activity. Proposed work approaches recognition of basic emotional categories from body postures using neural model applied visual perception of neurophysiology. In keeping with information processing models of the visual cortex, this work constructs a biologically plausible hierarchy of neural detectors, which can discriminate 6 basic emotional states from static views of associated body postures of activity. The proposed model, which is tolerant to parameter variations, presents its possibility by evaluating against human test subjects on a set of body postures of activities.

Five hundred fifty-five participants were asked their perceived health condition, and 58, 289, 160 and 48 students answered themselves as "very healthy", "healthy", "normal", and "unhealthy", respectively. As compared to the other 3 groups, "unhealthy" group showed higher proportions in dissatisfaction of body weight and negative perception of body image (P < 0.01). As health related lifestyles, "very healthy" group reported longer sleeping time than "unhealthy" group (P < 0.05), and had a higher proportion of people with regular exercise. Among the dietary behaviors, the frequencies of followings significantly different among the groups: "Regularity of meal time" (P < 0.01), "Eat protein foods more than twice a day" (P < 0.001), "Eat vegetables" (P < 0.01), "Eat fruit and fruit juice" (P < 0.01), "Eat vegetable oil added foods" (P < 0.01), "Eat seaweed" (P < 0.01), "Eat breakfast" (P < 0.01), "Modulation in animal fat and high in cholesterol intake" (P < 0.01). Particularly, higher proportion of subjects answered "very healthy" had higher frequencies (6-7 times/week) of these dietary behaviors. Overall results suggest that healthy lifestyle including adequate sleeping time, regular exercise, and good dietary behaviors might be potential factors affecting positive perception of health. In addition, positive perception of body weight and image were related with positive perception of health.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of body-shape perception and periodontal diseases in female adolescents based on the sixth 3rd-year(2015) data of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The subjects in this study were 211 female teenagers who were at the western ages of 12 to 18. As a result of analyzing, it's found that the body-shape perception of the female teens were linked to age, sleep hours, BMI, weight control and toothbrushing frequency, and whether they had periodontal diseases or not was found to be under the influence of age, smoking, sleep hours, stress, BMI and toothbrushing frequency. When the relationship between their body-shape perception and peridontal diseases was analyzed by controlling the confounders, the adolescents who considered their own bodies to be obese suffered from 3.18-fold more periodontal diseases(OR=3.18, 95% CI: 1.21, 8.38) than the teenagers who considered their body shape to be average. In the future, oral health care should be provided in consideration of the mental health of female adolescents to prevent periodontal diseases.
