  • This paper presents the real channel measurements and investigates their statistical characterization in wireless body area network(WBAN). In on-/off body channel, the measurements are performed with some representative human movements for considering human movements. Moreover, three signal transmission schemes with outage constraint are studied for getting total power consumption in each transmission scheme. Using the real channel measurements, between theoretical and realistic simulation are compared. This paper shows that power efficiency is improved through cooperative communication, and how much position of sensor node and human movement affect signal transmission power.

  • This paper proposes a new network coordinator node design to select the most suitable wireless technology for WBANs by using fuzzy logic. Its goal is to select a wireless communication technology available considering the user/application requirements and network conditions. A WBAN is composed of a set of sensors placed in, on, or around human body, which monitors the human body functions and the surrounding environment. In an effort to send sensor readings from human body to medical center or a station, a WBAN needs to stay connected to a local or a wide area network by using various wireless communication technologies. Nowadays, several wireless networking technologies may be utilized in WLANs and/or WANs each of which is capable of sending WBAN sensor readings to the desired destination. Therefore, choosing the best serving wireless communications technology has critical importance to provide quality of service support and cost efficient connections for WBAN users. In this work, we have developed, modeled, and simulated some networking scenarios utilizing our fuzzy logic-based NCN by using OPNET and MATLAB. Besides, we have compared our proposed fuzzy logic based algorithm with widely used RSSI-based AP selection algorithm. The results obtained from the simulations show that the proposed approach provides appropriate outcomes for both the WBAN users and the overall network.

  • Recently, the study on wireless body area network for providing ubiquitous healthcare services has been actively done, including the standardization of the IEEE and others. Wireless body area network is usually configured in tree format using multi-hop communication mode due to the power limitation and the characteristics of human body. In this case, differently from existing sensor network, the wireless body area network tends to be disconnected due to the frequent movement of human body. The number of connections which can be supported at each node has some limitations due to the constraint imposed on power consumption. In this paper, we have proposed a heuristic algorithm for optimal selection of parent node with guaranteed QoS for a disconnected node, which considers the priority on packet transmission. Simulation has been performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • The study investigated the effects of SNS usage on 20s and 30s female SNS users' internalization of thin body, body surveillance, appearance upper comparison, body dissatisfaction and eating disorders based on objectification theory and social comparison theory. The study examined differences on SNS usage and body image variables between high and low groups of SNS envy and self-compassion. Social Network Service (SNS) is used as a contemporary marketing tool for brands and companies. It also influences the body image of female SNS users. The survey used an online survey company for female SNS users in their 20s and 30s to analyze the effect of SNS usage. The results showed that SNS usage significantly impacted the internalization of a thin body, body surveillance and appearance upper comparison. The internalization of thin body also had a significant impact on body surveillance and appearance upper comparison. Appearance upper comparison positively affected body dissatisfaction and eating disorders. Finally, the group with higher SNS envy showed higher SNS usage, internalization of thin body, body surveillance, appearance upper comparison, body dissatisfaction and eating disorders. The group with higher self-compassion showed opposite results. This study provided a theoretical expansion for a SNS and female body image study with objectification theory and social comparison theory. It also suggests positive SNS marketing strategies use for brands. Lastly, this study emphasized the importance of the proper use of SNS to protect the body image of SNS users.

  • In a beacon-enabled Zigbee network, the slotted CSMA/CA mechanism based on the super frame structure fairly provides communication chance for each node and makes a reasonable usage of the available energy. In the case of wireless nano sensors that are implanted into the target human body area for detecting disease symptoms or virus, such a nano-network requires a similar type of channel sharing and transmission of short length event-driven data. In this paper, for nano-network's in-body applications, we aim to design conceptually a new super frame derived from the existing beacon-enabled Zigbee MAC protocol. And we analyze the efficiency of the proposed super frame in the aspect of practical deployment.

  • With the increasing demand for the development of human pose estimation, such as human-computer interaction and human activity recognition, there have been numerous approaches to detect the 2D poses of people in images more efficiently. Despite many years of human pose estimation research, the estimation of human poses with images remains difficult to produce satisfactory results. In this study, we propose a robust 2D human body pose estimation method using an RGB camera sensor. Our pose estimation method is efficient and cost-effective since the use of RGB camera sensor is economically beneficial compared to more commonly used high-priced sensors. For the estimation of upper-body joint positions, semantic segmentation with a fully convolutional network was exploited. From acquired RGB images, joint heatmaps accurately estimate the coordinates of the location of each joint. The network architecture was designed to learn and detect the locations of joints via the sequential prediction processing method. Our proposed method was tested and validated for efficient estimation of the human upper-body pose. The obtained results reveal the potential of a simple RGB camera sensor for human pose estimation applications.

  • A computer vision system was designed and validated to recognize an individual Holstein cattle by processing images of their body patterns. This system involves image capture, image pre-processing, algorithm processing, and an artificial neural network recognition algorithm. Optimum management of individuals is one of the most important factors in keeping cattle healthy and productive. In this study, an image-processing system was used to recognize individual Holstein cattle by identifying the body-pattern images captured by a charge-coupled device (CCD). A recognition system was developed and applied to acquire images of 49 cattles. The pixel values of the body images were transformed into input data comprising binary signals for the neural network. Images of the 49 cattle were analyzed to learn input layer elements, and ten cattles were used to verify the output layer elements in the neural network by using an individual recognition program. The system proved to be reliable for the individual recognition of cattles in natural light.

  • The WBAN technology means a short distance wireless network which provides each device interactive communication by connecting devices inside and outside of body. Standardization on the physical layer, data link layer, network layer and application layer is in progress by IEEE 802.15.6 TG BAN. Wireless body area network is usually configured in energy efficient using sensor and zigbee device due to the power limitation and the characteristics of human body. Wireless sensor network consist of sensor field and sink node. Sensor field are composed a lot of sensor node and sink node collect sensing data. Wireless sensor network has capacity of the self constitution by protocol where placed in large area without fixed position. Mobile sink node distribute energy consumption therefore network life time was increased than fixed sink node. The energy efficient is important matter in wireless body area network because energy resource was limited on sensor node. In this paper we proposed cluster topology algorithm for efficient data transmission in wireless body area network based mobile sink. The proposed algorithm show good performance under the advantage of grid routing protocol and TDMA scheduling that minimized overlap area on cluster and reduced amount of data on cluster header in error prone wireless sensor network based on mobile sink.
