The complete blood count and serum biochemical parameters are essential tools for diagnosis and monitoring of physiological and disease conditions in dogs. These parameters may be affected by the breed and age of dogs. This study aimed to compare the changes of complete blood count and serum biochemical parameters according to the increasing age in 156 Sapsarees. In this study, the Sapsarees were clustered into ten age groups: four to six months, seven to nine months, ten to twelve months, one year, two years, three to four years, five to six years, seven to eight years, nine to ten years, and, eleven to twelve years old. In the result of the complete blood count, the total red blood cell count (P<0.001), hematocrit (P<0.001), and hemoglobin (P<0.001) values were significantly increased from 4~6 months to 2 years old Sapsarees. While the mean corpuscular volume (P<0.001) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin (P<0.001) values were significantly increased from 4~6 months to 3~4 years old. The mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration was significantly (P=0.037) increased from 4~6 to 10~12-month-old Sapsarees. Total white cell count was significantly (P<0.001) decreased from 1 year to 9~10 years old. The result of differential white blood cell count showed that neutrophil count was significantly (P<0.001) increased from the age 4~6 months to 11~12 years old Sapsarees, whereas, lymphocyte (P<0.001), monocyte (P<0.001), and eosinophil (P=0.042) counts were significantly decreased from 7~9 months to 7~8 years, 4~6 months to 9~10 years, 3~4 to 5~6 years old, respectively. In the serum biochemistry result, the creatinine concentration was significantly (P<0.001) increased from 4~6 to 10~12 months, but significantly (P=0.006) decreased from 7~8 to 10~12 years old. Phosphate concentration was significantly (P<0.001) decreased from 3~4 to 9~10 years old, but significantly (P=0.021) increased from 9~10 to 11~12 years old. Calcium concentration significantly (P<0.001) decreased from 10~12 months to 11~12 years old. Total protein concentration significantly (P<0.001) increased from 4~6 months to 2 years old. While concentrations of albumin (P=0.004) and globulin (P<0.001) was significantly increased from 4~6 months to 3~4 years old, and from 4~6 months to 11~12 years old, respectively. The alkaline phosphate concentration was significantly (P<0.001) decreased from 4~6 months to 2 years old. We found that there are differences in the hematological parameters in relation with the increasing age in Sapsaree breed.
This study is planned to investigate the change in blood limpid and oxygen-carrying factors of middle-aged women through 12 weeks of circuit weight training. The participants worked out three times a week for 50 minutes each, with 50-80% of 1RM intensity. As such, the purpose of the study and the procedure brought about the following conclusions. First, the query results of blood limpid showed that the total amount of cholesterol, triglycerides in the blood, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol decreased significantly, and the amount of high density lipoprotein cholesterol did not show an increase. Second, the results of oxygen-carrying factors showed that the number of oxygen-carrying red blood cells, hemoglobin, and hematocrit showed an increase. Therefore, this circuit weight training program which used weights of the geological landscape is considered as an effective way to exercise, since it had a positive impact on the oxygen-carrying capacity and cardiovascular disease prevention

Neuralgia is a disease that involves severe pain and has a very strong effect on the quality of human life, and the prevalence of the disease increases with aging. To date, previous studies on neuralgia were mainly focused on associations with mental illness, demographic information, and nutrients, and studies on association with blood information were very rare. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to examine the association between neuralgia and blood parameters and find clinical indicators related to neuralgia. To analyze the data, we used binary logistic regression based on data of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Our results showed that age tended to have the higher association with neuralgia in both men and women, waist circumference and hematocrit level were associated with neuralgia in women, and fasting blood glucose and hemoglobin levels were associated with neuralgia in men. Also, we found that the association of neuralgia with waist circumference and blood information differed according to gender.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the variation in constituent element of blood between the massage group and non-massage group for period of convalescence after giving intense physical exercise of 180beat/min. for 10 men studying physical exercises. Education in K university served as the subjects for this study. The following are the results of the study. 1. The variation in white blood corpuscles showed a tendency of equal ascension in both groups just after finishing physical exercise, but the subjects in the massage group showed quicker recuperation than the subjects in the non-massage. The subjects in the massage group showed a lower tendency than the subjects in the non-massage group for 30minutes after finishing physical exercise. 2. In the variation of red blood corpuscles, it was increased in the massage and non-massage group after physical exercise, but it showed a tendency to drastically decrease in the massage group after 30 minutes. 3. Hemoglobin showed a variation increasing in the massage group and non-massage group after physical exercise, but it showed a tendency of rapid decrease in the massage group after 30 minutes. 4. In the variation of hematocrit, it showed a tendency of similar increase after physical exercise in the massage and non-massage group, but the subjects in the massage group showed a higher decrease than ones in the non-massage after 30 minutes. 5. Blood platelet was increased in the subjects of the massage group after physical exercise, but it was decreased drastically after 30 minutes. 6. In the variation of blood glucose, it was increased in the subjects in the massage group and decreased in the non-massage group after physical exercise, but it showed a tendency of rapid decrease in the non-massage group after 30 minutes.

To clarify the ichthyotoxic mechanisms of a harmful dinoflagellate Cochlodinium polykrikoides, hematological responses of the flounder Paralichthys olivaceus and red sea bream Pagrus major exposed to this algal bloom were investigated. The mortality of red sea bream was considerably larger than that of flounder, and the threshold lethal density of C. polykrikoides to the test fish was approximately 3,000 cells/ml. Blood $PO_2$declined in proportion to the increasing density of algal cells. The blood $PO_2$ of moribund fish was about $40-60\% of control test fish. Particularly, the fishes began to be killed when the blood $PO_2$ fell below 30-40 mmHg. However, the blood pH dropped almost 1.0 unit just before fish kill. Hemoglobin and hematocrit levels of fish exposed to C. polykrikoides of 5,000 cells/ml for 24 h and of moribund fish did not show great difference. The concentrations of plasma $Na^+$, $K^+$ and $Cl^-$ were slightly elevated to different magnitudes except $Ca^{2+}$ and plasma osmolality was also increased in Cochlodinium-exposed fish. In the plasma cortisol level, these values of moribund flounder and red sea bream were 4- 5 times higher than those of control fish. These results suggest that the drop of blood $PO_2$ was may be one of the principal causes of fish kill by C. polykrikoides, and the changes of other hematological parameters were secondary responses elicited by the decrease in blood $PO_2$.

This study was conducted to evaluate the health status of staff by medical examination data according to the work classification as professional, office worker and laborer in K University in Seoul, Korea. Two thousand four hundred and eighty-four staff (men : 1154, female: 1330) from the university were studied for this report. The anthropometric (height, weight and BMI) and blood pressure (systolic, diastolic) and biochemical parameters (hemoglobin, glucose, cholesterol, AST, ALT) were measured. All groups were calculated using GLM multivariate analysis for three groups after adjustment for age. The average BMI was significantly higher in laborers than professionals and officers after adjustment for age. In blood pressure, especially in SBP, the significant difference was found in females according to the job classification. Blood glucose levels of female laborers were significantly higher than those of officers and professionals. The level of blood total cholesterol of male professionals was significantly higher than those of laborers. The level of blood total cholesterol of female laborers was significantly higher than officers or professionals. Importantly, significant differences were found in BMI, SBP, blood glucose level and cholesterol level of female staff after adjustment for age. These results showed that there were differences in health subjects of staff according to the work classification. This study would provide basic data to prepare the program of health promotion for the college staff according to work classification. Further research is required to discover factors influencing health promotion of staff in colleges.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of modified fasting therapy on body composition, blood cell count and blood chemistry in inpatients. Methods : The modified fasting therapy program consists of three phases, a period of reducing food intakes, fasting and refeeding. Body weight, body composition, and the degree of obesity were estimated in before fasting therapy and after refeeding. Blood cell count and blood chemistry were estimated in before fasting therapy, before refeeding and after refeeding. Results : After modified fasting therapy, body weight, body fat mass, percent body fat, body mass index(BMI), body matabolic rate(BMR) and muscle mass was decreased significantly. WBC count and platelet count decreased significantly, RBC count and hemoglobin increased significantly and hematocrit was not changed significantly but within normal limit. AST and ALT increased significantly, especially patients group over BMI 25 within normal liver function. This study was not founded correlation between decreased muscle mass and increased liver function test. ALP, BUN, Total-cholesterol, and triglyceride decreased significantly. Creatinine increased significantly, but within normal limit. Sodium was not changed significantly, potassium decreased significantly but within normal limit. Conclusions : These results suggest that modified fasting therapy will be beneficial if several measures complement.
The effect of long-term ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) administration on the clearance of carboxyhemoglobin (CO-Hb) and the property of blood gases was investigated in rats. Rats were received ginseng water extract (0.025% in drinking water) for 42 weeks starting at the age of 6 weeks. They were exposed to the diluted mainstream smoke generated from 15 filter cigarettes for 20 min in a round polycarbonate chamber (D37 cmXH13 cm). Under this condition, the mean CO-Hb content of control and the ginseng-treated rats immediately after the exposure was nearly the same as 13.8$\pm$2.9 f) and 13.9$\pm$1.6%, respectively. However, CO-Hb was more rapidly removed from blood in the ginseng treated rats than in untreatEd control with the laps of time, namely, its biological half life In the former was 36.9$\pm$1.5 min and in the latter was 56.9$\pm$13.2 min. Although long-term ginseng treatment did not affect the content of hemoglobin and blood pH of rats, it slightly increased blood oxygen content and its partial pressure value, and decreased levels of carbon dioxide and bicarbonate. These results suggest that long-term administration of rats with ginseng extract accelerate the elimination of CO from the blood. This effect seems to be related to the enhancement of oxygen consumption of the rat by a certain action of ginseng components as previously reported.
We studied the effects of intake of the steamed bean powder(SB) and chungkukjang powder(CK) on blood parameters such as glucose, albumin, GOT, GPT, hematocrit, hemoglobin, total-/HDL-/LDL-cholesterol and triglyceride, and blood antioxidant nutrients such as retinol, tocopherols and carotenes in 26 college women. There were 2 groups, one group had 13 participants who consumed 30g SP and second group (13 participants) consumed 30g CK daily for 4 weeks. The study compared before with after SP/CK intake. The average age of the participants was 22.1 years, there were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of all parameters before the study. The energy intake showed no significant differences between before and after SP/CK intake. C(carbohydrate) propotion was reduced, and P(protein) and F(fat) ratio were increased after 4 week intake of SP/CK. Indices of nutritional quality(INQ) of protein(p<0.01), iron(p<0.05), zinc(p<0.05), vitamin C(p<0.05) were significantly increased after SP intake, and those of protein(p<0.05) and zinc also increased after CK intake. There were no significant differences in TG, total-/HDL-/LDL-cholesterol before and after SP/CK intake. The CK intake group showed the reduction only in retinol level in blood(p<0.05). Some students reported the improvement of the constipation and the regularity of the bowel elemination, and some students experienced the prolongation effects on one's monthly days after SP/CK intake. In this study, we could see the effect of improvement in some nutrients intake, but no effect in blood parameters by SP/CK intake for 4 weeks. That reason might be that the participants were healthy young women, or the trail period was not enough long to change.
