This paper describes hardware implementation of the encryption block of the '128 bit block cipher LEA' among various lightweight encryption algorithms for IoT (Internet of Things) security. Round function blocks and key-schedule blocks are designed by parallel circuits for high throughput. The encryption blocks support secret-key of 128 bits, and are designed by FSM method and 24/n stage(n=1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 12) pipeline methods. The LEA-128 encryption blocks are modeled using Verilog-HDL and implemented on FPGA, and according to the synthesis results, minimum area and maximum throughput are provided.
This paper describes a lightweight implementation of a cryptographic processor supporting GCM (Galois/Counter Mode) authenticated encryption (AE) that is based on the two block cipher algorithms of ARIA and AES. It also provides five modes of operation (ECB, CBC, OFB, CFB, CTR) for confidentiality as well as the key lengths of 128-bit and 256-bit. The ARIA and AES are integrated into a single hardware structure, which is based on their algorithm characteristics, and a $128{\times}12-b$ partially parallel GF (Galois field) multiplier is adopted to efficiently perform concurrent processing of CTR encryption and GHASH operation to achieve overall performance optimization. The hardware operation of the ARIA/AES-GCM AE processor was verified by FPGA implementation, and it occupied 60,800 gate equivalents (GEs) with a 180 nm CMOS cell library. The estimated throughput with the maximum clock frequency of 95 MHz are 1,105 Mbps and 810 Mbps in AES mode, 935 Mbps and 715 Mbps in ARIA mode, and 138~184 Mbps in GCM AE mode according to the key length.
This paper proposes an optical cryptography application to 2-D page-oriented data based on CFB(Cipher Feedback) mode algorithm. The proposed method uses a free-space optical interconnected dual-encoding technique which performs XOR logic operations in order to implement 2-D page-oriented data encryption. The proposed method provides more enhanced cryptosystem with greater security strength than the conventional CFB block mode with 1-D encryption key due to the huge encryption key with 2-D arrayed page type. To verify the proposed method, encryption and decryption of 2-D page data and error analysis are carried out by computer simulations. The results show that the proposed CFB optical encryption system makes it possible to implement stronger cryptosystem with massive data processing and long encryption key compared to 1-D block method.

Demand on information security in mobile devices based control system grows rapidly with a view to counteracting information hacking and leakage. Among these techniques, encryption and authentication are most common. This paper presents CBC-MAC (Cipher Block Chaining-Message Authentication Code) based mobile devices control system. The system is termed as Secure Mobile in Vehicle (SMIV)We use CBC-MAC that is one of the most efficient authentication modes to protect information against any malicious attacks. By sharing the secret key of CBC-MAC between the transmitter and receiver, it asserts authentic information. The proposed system is verified in such a way that we develop mobile devices control system, apply the CBC-MAC algorithm to the control system and validate the received data. Unlike conventional systems where the development of control mechanism in mobile devices based control systems is main concern, this proposed system offers a secure communication link of the data in mobile devices control system and therefore would be useful to the design and implementation of various mobile devices based control systems.

The round reduction on block cipher is a fault injection attack in which an attacker inserts temporary errors in cryptographic devices and extracts a secret key by reducing the number of operational round. In this paper, we proposed an improved round reduction method to retrieve master keys by injecting a fault during operation of loop statement in the Triple DES. Using laser fault injection experiment, we also verified that the proposed attack could be applied to a pure microprocessor ATmega 128 chip in which the Triple DES algorithm was implemented. Compared with previous attack method which is required 9 faulty-correct cipher text pairs and some exhaustive searches, the proposed one could extract three 56-bit secret keys with just 5 faulty cipher texts.

In the recent years, power analysis attacks were widely investigated, and so various countermeasures have been proposed. In the case of block ciphers, masking methods that blind the intermediate results in the algorithm computations(encryption, decryption, and key-schedule) are well-known. The type conversion of masking is unavoidable since Boolean operation and Arithmetic operation are performed together in block cipher. Messerges proposed a masking type conversion algorithm resistant general power analysis attack and then it's vulnerability was reported. We present that some of exiting attacks have some practical problems and propose a new power analysis attack on Messerges's algorithm. After we propose the strengthen DPA and CPA attack on the masking type conversion algorithm, we show that our proposed attack is a practical threat as the simulation results.
This paper presents an experimental result showing the encryption and decryption times of the AES and LEA algorithms. AES and LEA algorithms are international and Korean standards for block ciphers, respectively. Through experiments, this paper investigates the applicability of the LEA algorithm for light weight IoT devices. In order to measure the encryption and decryption times, 256-bit and 128-bit secret keys were randomly generated for AES and LEA, respectively. Under our test environment using an Arduino microcontroller, the AES algorithm takes about 45ms for encryption and decryption processes, whereas the LEA algorithm takes about 4ms. Even though processing times of each algorithm may vary much under different implementation and test environments, this experimental result shows that the LEA algorithm can be applied to many light weight IoT devices for security goals.

In this paper, we study a security of HEA(Hangul Encryption Algorithm) against differential cryptanalysis. HEA, which is 1,024bits input/output and 56bits key size, has the same structure as DES(Data Encyption Standard) only for Korean characters to be produced in ciphertexts. An encryption algorithm should be developed to meet certain critria such as input/ouput dependencies, correlation, avalanche effects, etc. However HEA uses the same S-Boxes as DES does and just expands the plaintext/ciphertext sizes . We analysize HEA with a differential cryptanalysis and present two results. The number of rounds of HEA has not been determined in a concrete basis of cryptanalysis and we show a chosen plintext attack of 10 round reduced HEA with a diffe- rential cryptanalysis characteristic.

A hardware implementation of ultra-lightweight block cipher algorithm PRESENT which was specified as a standard for lightweight cryptography ISO/IEC 29192-2 is described. The PRESENT crypto-processor supports two key lengths of 80 and 128 bits, as well as four modes of operation including ECB, CBC, OFB, and CTR. The PRESENT crypto-processor has on-the-fly key scheduler with master key register, and it can process consecutive blocks of plaintext/ciphertext without reloading master key. In order to achieve a lightweight implementation, the key scheduler was optimized to share circuits for key lengths of 80 bits and 128 bits. The round block was designed with a data-path of 64 bits, so that one round transformation for encryption/decryption is processed in a clock cycle. The PRESENT crypto-processor was verified using Virtex5 FPGA device. The crypto-processor that was synthesized using a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS cell library has 8,100 gate equivalents(GE), and the estimated throughput is about 908 Mbps with a maximum operating clock frequency of 454 MHz.

In this paper, we describe VLSI design and performance evaluation of OCB-AES crytographic algorithm that simulataneously provides privacy and authenticity. The OCB-AES crytographic algorithm sovles the problems such as long operation time and large hardware of conventional crytographic system, because the conventional system must implement the privancy and authenticity sequentially with seqarated algorithms and hardware. The OCB-AES processor with area-efficient modular offset generator and tag generator is designed using IDEC Samsung 0.35um standard cell library and consists of about 55,700 gates. Its cipher rate is about 930Mbps and the number of clock cycles needed to generate the 128-bit tags for authenticity and integrity is (m+2)${\times}$(Nr+1), where m and Nr represent the number of block for message and number of rounds for AES encryption, respectively. The OCB-AES processor can be applicable to soft cryptographic IP of IEEE 802.11i wireless LAN and Mobile SoC.
