  • Leading Lights and Sector Lights provide a navigable channel, heading reference and a visual indication. Mariners can take easily a reference bearing or line of position. The Busan North Port needed to install a sector light to resolve blind sections because of Busan Port Redevelopment Project D-1 Block Construction Plan. And also the busan new port needed to install a sector light to give safety indication because navigation conditions will be changed due to removal of the to-island. For this reason, design development was made for installation of sector lights. In addition, the results of design development were compared with the AtoN simulation and verified. This paper is expected to be very useful for installing Sector Lights to guide the vessel to port safely in Korea.

  • Secure authentication technology is a fundamental building block for secure services for Internet of Things devices. Particularly, the multiplication operation is a core operation of public key cryptography, such as RSA, ECC, and SIDH. However, modern low-power processor, namely ARM Cortex-M3 processor, is not secure enough for practical usages, since it executes the multiplication operation in variable-time depending on the input length. When the execution is performed in variable-time, the attacker can extract the password from the measured timing. In order to resolve this issue, recent work presented constant-time solution for multiplication operation. However, the implementation still missed various speed-optimization techniques. In this paper, we analyze previous multiplication methods over ARM Cortex-M3 and provide optimized implementations to accelerate the speed-performance further. The proposed method successfully accelerates the execution-time by up-to 25.7% than previous works.

  • This paper describes an error resilient video data transmission method using information hiding. In order to localize transmission errors in receiver, video encoder embeds one bit for a macro block during encoding process. Embedded information is detected during decoding process in the receiver, and the transmission errors can be localized by comparing the original embedding data. The localized transmission errors can be easily corrected, thus the degradation in a reconstructed image can be alleviated. Futhermore, the embedded information can be applied to protect intellectual property rights of the video data. Experimental results for 3 QCIF sized video sequenced composed of 150 frames respectively show that, while degradation in video streams in which the information is embedded is negligible, especially in a noisy channel, the average PSNR of reconstructed images can be improved about 5 dB by using embedded information. Also, intellectual property rights information can be effectively obtained from reconstructed images.

  • In this paper, we propose 2-stage beamformer with linear receiver in wireless backhaul downlink system where macro base station has large antenna array with sub-array structure. Also, to compare the system capacity, we apply 3-stage beamformer with zero-forcing precoder and calculate the achievable sum rate of received small cell base stations. Considering scattering and path-loss property of wireless backhaul channel, we combine precoding technique for spatial multiplexing and beamforming technique to overcome path-loss. Therefore, we design DFT-based fixed beam patterns for the first stage. The simulation results show that considering spatial multiplexing, proposed 2-stage beamformer with linear receiver can increase the achievable sum rate as well as reduce the feedback information.

  • Analysis of multi-channel seismic reflection and well data serves to detail the structural evolution of the northern Okinawa Trough, southern offshore Korea. The overall structural style of the area is characterized by a series of half grabens and tilted fault blocks bounded by basement-involved listric normal faults. Most half grabens and tilted fault blocks developed in the direction of NNE-SSW, parallel to the axis of the Okinawa Trough. Orientation and distribution of the listric faults also suggest the development of transfer faults in NW-SE direction. The rifting phase of the northern Okinawa Trough have been established on the basis of structural and stratigraphic analyses of depositional sequences and their seismic expressions. Major phase of rifting probably started in the Late Miocene and the most active rifting occurred during the Early Pliocene. The rifting produced a series of half grabens and tilted fault blocks bounded by listric normal faults. It appears that the rifting activity has become weaker since the Late Pliocene, but the Pleistocene sediments faulted by listric faults bounding tilted fault blocks suggest that the rifting activity is probably still in progress.

  • The downregulation of A-type $K^+$ channels ($I_A$ channels) accompanying enhanced somatic excitability can mediate epileptogenic conditions in mammalian central nervous system. As $I_A$ channels are dominantly targeted by dendritic and postsynaptic processings during synaptic plasticity, it is presumable that they may act as cellular linkers between synaptic responses and somatic processings under various excitable conditions. In the present study, we electrophysiologically tested if the downregulation of somatic $I_A$ channels was sensitive to synaptic activities in young hippocampal neurons. In primarily cultured hippocampal neurons (DIV 6~9), the peak of $I_A$ recorded by a whole-cell patch was significantly reduced by high KCl or exogenous glutamate treatment to enhance synaptic activities. However, the pretreatment of MK801 to block synaptic NMDA receptors abolished the glutamate-induced reduction of the $I_A$ peak, indicating the necessity of synaptic activation for the reduction of somatic $I_A$. This was again confirmed by glycine treatment, showing a significant reduction of the somatic $I_A$ peak. Additionally, the gating property of $I_A$ channels was also sensitive to the activation of synaptic NMDA receptors, showing the hyperpolarizing shift in inactivation kinetics. These results suggest that synaptic LTP possibly potentiates somatic excitability via downregulating $I_A$ channels in expression and gating kinetics. The consequential changes of somatic excitability following the activity-dependent modulation of synaptic responses may be a series of processings for neuronal functions to determine outputs in memory mechanisms or pathogenic conditions.

  • The interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) are pacemaking cells required for gastrointestinal motility. The possibility of whether DA-9701, a novel prokinetic agent formulated with Pharbitis Semen and Corydalis Tuber, modulates pacemaker activities in the ICC was tested using the whole cell patch clamp technique. DA-9701 produced membrane depolarization and increased tonic inward pacemaker currents in the voltage-clamp mode. The application of flufenamic acid, a non-selective cation channel blocker, but not niflumic acid, abolished the generation of pacemaker currents induced by DA-9701. Pretreatment with a $Ca^{2+}$-free solution and thapsigargin, a $Ca^{2+}$-ATPase inhibitor in the endoplasmic reticulum, abolished the generation of pacemaker currents. In addition, the tonic inward currents were inhibited by U-73122, an active phospholipase C inhibitor, but not by $GDP-{\beta}-S$, which permanently binds G-binding proteins. Furthermore, the protein kinase C inhibitors, chelerythrine and calphostin C, did not block the DA-9701-induced pacemaker currents. These results suggest that DA-9701 might affect gastrointestinal motility by the modulation of pacemaker activity in the ICC, and the activation is associated with the non-selective cationic channels via external $Ca^{2+}$ influx, phospholipase C activation, and $Ca^{2+}$ release from internal storage in a G protein-independent and protein kinase C-independent manner.

  • This paper describes a design of low-density parity-check(LDPC) decoder supporting block length 2,304-bit and code rate 1/2 of IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMAX standard. The designed LDPC decoder employs the min-sum algorithm and partially parallel layered-decoding architecture which processes a sub-matrix of $96{\times}96$ in parallel. By exploiting the properties of the min-sum algorithm, a new memory reduction technique is proposed, which reduces check node memory by 46% compared to conventional method. Functional verification results show that it has average bit-error-rate(BER) of $4.34{\times}10^{-5}$ for AWGN channel with Fb/No=2.1dB. Our LDPC decoder synthesized with a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS cell library has 174,181 gates and 52,992 bits memory, and the estimated throughput is about 417 Mbps at 100-MHz@l.8-V.

  • We studied the mechanism of arachidonic acid on the secretion of a neurotransmitter in rat pheochromocytoma PC12 cells. Arachidonic acid inhibited the 70 mM $K^+$-induced secretion of norepinephrine. Arachidonic acid also inhibited the 70 mM $K^+$-induced $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization which is due to the opening of the voltage-sensitive $Ca^{2+}$ channels (VSCC). Both the half maximal inhibitory concentration ($IC_{50}$) of the norepinephrine secretion and VSCC coincided at 30 uM. The major oxidized metabolites of arachidonic acid, prostaglandins did not mimic the inhibitory effect of arachidonic acid. Nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA) and indomethacin which are inhibitors of lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase, respectively, did not block the inhibitory effect of arachidonic acid. The results suggest that arachidonic acid serves as a signal itself, not in the form of metabolites. The pretreatment of various $K^+$ channel blockers such as 4-aminopyridine, tetraethylarnmonium, glipizide, or glibenclamide also did not show any effect on the inhibitory effect of arachidonic acid. Through these results we suggest that arachidonic acid regulates VSCC directly and affects the secretion of neurotransmitters.

  • This paper presents design and VLSI implementations of a reassembly processor for ATM/AAL. The assembly processor is responsible for processing ATM cells from the receive physical interface. It controls the transfer of the AAL payload to host memory and performs all necessary SAR and CPCS checks. We propose the improved structure of cell identification algorithm and smart scatter method for host memory management. The proposed cell identification algorithm quickly locates the appropriate reassembly VC table based on the received VPI./VCI channel value in the ATM header. The cell identification algorithm also allow complete freedom in assignment of VCI/VPI values. The reassembly processor uses a smart scatter method to write cell payload data to host memory. It maintains the scatter operation and controls the incoming DMA block during scatter DMA to host memory. The proposed reassembly processor can perform reassembly checks on AAL. OAM cell. For an AAL5 connection, only CPCS checks, including the CRC32, are performed. In this paper, we proposed a practical reassembly architecture. The design of reassembly processor has become feasible using 0.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS gate array technology.
