Common-path interferometers are widely used for endoscopic optical coherence tomography (OCT) because an arbitrary arm length can be chosen for the endoscopic imaging probe. However, the scheme suffers from the limited range of the sample position distance from the end of the imaging probe because the position between the reference reflector and the sample is limited by the optical path-length difference (OPD) to induce an interference signal. In this study, we developed a novel method for compensating the arbitrary sample position in common-path swept-source OCT by adding an extra Mach-Zehnder interferometer in the post-path of the interfered optical signal. Theoretical analysis and an experimental demonstration of imaging depth tuning for the flexible sample position of an endoscopic OCT image are discussed. After post-tuning of sample position distance, the positioning limitation between the reference reflector and the sample can be solved for various sample positions over a range of 26 mm for the cross-sectional images of a fish eye sample.

Nannizziopsis mirabilis (KNU17-67) was isolated from a field soil sample collected from Jejudo in 2017. This fungal isolate was identified and described by its morphological characters and the internal transcribed spacer rDNA gene sequencing. Potato dextrose agar medium was used to study its macro and micromorphology. In addition, a molecular phylogenetic tree was constructed for its precise confirmation as N. mirabilis. This fungal isolate has not officially been reported previously in Korea.
Chromosome analysis is an important and difficult task for clinical diagnosis, for mutagen dosimetry, and for biological research. It is expensive, time consuming and imprecise when performed manually. Efforts lo automate some or all of the procedures have continued for more than 30 years, with only limited success. An acquiring sample from chromosome group is not solved with automatic method. It is still performed by user. This paper represents the method of an automatic chromosome sample extraction which based on region splitting, and scan converted method.

Microfluidic technologies hold high promise and emerge as a potential molecular tool to facilitate the progress of fundamental and applied biomedical researches by enabling miniaturization and upgrading current biological research tools. In this review, we summarize the state of the art of existing microfluidic technologies and its' application for characterizing biophysical properties of individual cells. Microfluidic devices offer significant advantages and ability to handle in integrating sample processes, minimizing sample and reagent volumes, and increased analysis speed. Therefore, we first present the basic concepts and summarize several achievements in new coupling between microfluidic devices and mass spectrometers. Secondly, we discuss the recent applications of microfluidic chips in various biological research field including cellular and molecular level. Finally, we present the current challenge of microfluidic technologies and future perspective in this study field.

A high-performance liquid chromatographic method using the liquid extraction procedure was developed for the determination of L -FMAUS. a new L -FMAU derivative, in rat plasma and urine using 3-aminophenyl sulfone as an internal standard. A 100-${\mu}\ell$ aliquot of distilled water containing the L -cysteine (100 mg/$m\ell$) was added to a 100-${\mu}\ell$ aliquot of biological sample. L-Cysteine was employed to protect binding between 5'-thiol of l and protein in the biological sample. (omitted)
The community structure of cultivable bacteria associated with the marine sponge, Petrosia corticata, collected from Jeju Island in summer (September) of 2012 and winter (January) of 2013, were compared by the PCR-ARDRA method. Bacterial strains were cultured for 4 days at $26^{\circ}C$ on Zobell medium and marine agar medium. After PCR amplification of 16S rRNA gene of individual strains, the restriction enzymes MspI and HaeIII were used to make restriction patterns. As a result, 24 ARDRA patterns from the summer sponge and 20 ARDRA patterns from the winter sponge were obtained. The sequencing result of 1-3 selected strains from each pattern showed over 98% similarities with the known sequences from the public database. At the phylum level, the bacterial community structures of both sponges (summer and winter) were identical qualitatively and composed of 4 phyla : Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Firmicutes. Alphaproteobacteria accounted for 42.5% of total in summer sponge and 25.2% in winter, decreasing in the winter sample. Gammaproteobacteria accounted for 27.5% of total in summer sponge and 35.2% in winter, increasing in the winter sample. At the genus and species level, summer sponge had more diverse bacterial communities than winter sponge. Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Firmicutes increased in the winter sample.
Proteomics for biomarker validation needs high throughput instrumentation to analyze huge set of clinical samples for quantitative and reproducible analysis at a minimum time without manual experimental errors. Sample preparation, a vital step in proteomics plays a major role in identification and quantification of proteins from biological samples. Tryptic digestion a major check point in sample preparation for mass spectrometry based proteomics needs to be more accurate with rapid processing time. The present study focuses on establishing a high throughput automated online system for proteolytic digestion and desalting of proteins from biological samples quantitatively and qualitatively in a reproducible manner. The present study compares online protein digestion and desalting of BSA with conventional off-line (in-solution) method and validated for real time sample for reproducibility. Proteins were identified using SEQUEST data base search engine and the data were quantified using IDEALQ software. The present study shows that the online system capable of handling high throughput samples in 96 well formats carries out protein digestion and peptide desalting efficiently in a reproducible and quantitative manner. Label free quantification showed clear increase of peptide quantities with increase in concentration with much linearity compared to off line method. Hence we would like to suggest that inclusion of this online system in proteomic pipeline will be effective in quantification of proteins in comparative proteomics were the quantification is really very crucial.
In this study, to determine the importance of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in Kombucha fermentation, biological functions, such as organic acid production and anti-inflammatory and antibacterial activities, of Kombucha, with or without LAB inoculation, were evaluated. Lactobacillus paracasei DK215, Saccharomyces cerevisiae C3, and Acetobacter pasteurianus P2 were selected as the inoculants. Organic acids were measured every 3 days from the end of fermentation using HPLC; the organic acid content of LAB-inoculated Kombucha was relatively high. Samples with or without LAB inoculation showed high antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli. The MTT assay results indicated no significant difference in concentration difference and cell death. In the NO production test, compared with the uninoculated Kombucha sample, the LAB-inoculated Kombucha sample exhibited a value similar to that of the group without LPS treatment. The levels of cytokine (IL-1α, IL-6, TNF-α) production were significantly lower than those of the LPS(+) group, indicating the anti-inflammatory activity potential of the Kombucha sample. This improvement in the biological function of the LAB-inoculated Kombucha further verifies the value of LAB in the fermented food and beverage industry.
This study is being carried out, in two different random sample groups, between 20 men who were radiation exposed workers in the two general hospitals located in "T" city as a experimental group and 20 healthy men who were non-radiation exposed workers as a control group. The occurring frequency of the sister chromatid exchange as a biological dosemeter of radiation were studied. And the age, duration of employment and smoking were used as variable for the experiment. The results are as follows : The frequency of SCE were noticed respectively by each variable : 1) by age as a variable, the frequency were increased notably in radiation exposed workers group rather than a control group(p<0.05). 2) by duration of employment, the difference of the frequency were not recognised significantly in statistical among radiation exposed workers. 3) in smoker the frequency were increased notably in a radiation exposed workers than a control groups(p<0.05). Taking into consideration the above results, the age and smoking could affect the frequency of SCE, however, the size of sample were too small to generalize. Therefore, the following suggestions are recommended to get more accurate result. 1) In order to clarify the correlation in a smoking as variable, finding the volume of smoking and its related factor are necessarily required. 2) In order to confirm the correlation in each variable, adopting of a bigger-sized sample are needed and the study itself also be carried out repeatedly.
