  • A theory of binary wavelets has been recently proposed by using two-band perfect reconstruction filter banks over binary field . Binary wavelet transform (BWT) of binary images can be used as an alternative to the real-valued wavelet transform of binary images in image processing applications such as compression, edge detection, and recognition. The BWT, however, requires large amount of computations since its operation is accomplished by matrix multiplication. In this paper, a fast BWT algorithm which utilizes filtering operation instead or matrix multiplication is presented . It is shown that the proposed algorithm can significantly reduce the computational complexity of the BWT. For the decomposition and reconstruction or an N ${\times}$ N image, the proposed algorithm requires only 2LN$^2$ multiplications and 2(L-1)N$^2$addtions when the filter length is L, while the BWT needs 2N$^3$multiplications and 2N(N-1)$^2$additions.

  • The traditional robot manipulators are actuated by continuous range of motion actuators such as motors or hydraulic cylinders. However, there are many applications of mechanisms and robotic manipulators where only a finite number of locations need to be reached, and the robot's trajectory is not important as long as it is bounded. Binary manipulator uses actuators which have only two stable states. As a result, binary manipulators have a finite number of states. The number of states of a binary manipulator grows exponentially with the number of actuators. This kind of robot manipulator has some advantage compared to a traditional one. Feedback control is not required, task repeatability can be very high, and finite state actuators are generally inexpensive. And this kind of robot manipulator has a fault tolerant mechanism because of kinematic redundancy. This paper develops algorithms for kinematics and workspace analysis of a binary manipulator.

  • Given binary operations "*" and "$\circ$" on a set X, define a product binary operation "$\Box$" as follows: $x{\Box}y\;:=\;(x\;{\ast}\;y)\;{\circ}\;(y\;{\ast}\;x)$. This in turn yields a binary operation on Bin(X), the set of groupoids defined on X turning it into a semigroup (Bin(X), $\Box$)with identity (x * y = x) the left zero semigroup and an analog of negative one in the right zero semigroup (x * y = y). The composition $\Box$ is a generalization of the composition of functions, modelled here as leftoids (x * y = f(x)), permitting one to study the dynamics of binary systems as well as a variety of other perspectives also of interest.

  • In this paper, we propose an incremental redundancy(IR)-hybrid ARQ(HARQ) scheme which uses double binary turbo codes for error correction. We also propose a methodology for basic analysis of the throughput which is a performance index of HARQ. The proposed double binary turbo IR-HARQ scheme provides higher throughput than binary IR-HARQ, which uses binary turbo codes for error correction, at all $E_s/N_0$. An extra coding gain is also attained by using the proposed HARQ scheme over the coding gain achieved by turbo codes only.

  • Electric conductivities of $LaCl_3$-KCl binary melts have been measured by the Kohlausch bridge method over the range from their liquidus temperatures to about 1280 K. The electric conductivity increased with the content of KCl for all over the composition range of binary melts. The composition dependence of the electric conductivity and molar conductivity for the binary melt showed a non-linear relation from the additivity line, and the deviation showed a maximum value at about 60 mol.% KCl. The deviation implies the existence of complex ion of $LaCl^{4-}$ in the melt. Activation energy for electric conductivity of the binary melts decreased monotonously with increasing content of KCl.

  • The absolute dimensions of low mass contact binary, GR Vir and HV Aqr were obtained using WD program from the published spectroscopic and photometric observational data. The evolutionary status of this type of system including GR Vir and HV Aqr has been considered. The primary stars of low mass contact binary system were located on the Terminal Age Main-sequence and secondary stars were located under the Zero Age Main-sequence in H-R diagram.

  • It is tremendously important to construct decision trees to use as a tool for knowledge representation from a given decision table. However, the usual algorithms may split the decision table based on each value, which is not efficient for numerical attributes. The methodology of this paper is to split the given decision table into binary groups as like the CART algorithm, that uses binary split to work for both categorical and numerical attributes. The difference is that it uses split for each attribute established by the directed acyclic graph in a dynamic programming fashion whereas, the CART uses binary split among all considered attributes in a greedy fashion. The aim of this paper is to study the effect of binary splits in comparison with each value splits when building the decision trees. Such effect can be studied by comparing the number of nodes, local and global misclassification rate among the constructed decision trees based on three proposed algorithms.

  • In this paper we propose a novel volume hologram encryption system with binary amplitude masks rather than phase masks, in which volume holograms can be securely recorded against the attacks by a third party. In our system, the encryption is done by multiplexing two volume holograms in such a way that an original binary data page is first stored as a volume hologram by interference with a binary amplitude mask and then the complementary data page is stored as another volume hologram by interference with the complementary binary amplitude mask over the first hologram. The operation principle of our system is explained with the well-known theory of recording and reading a volume hologram in a photorefractive material and the experimental results are presented. Experimental data show that our encryption system is protected from blind decryptions by randomly-generated incorrect amplitude masks.

  • In this paper, we develop a descriptor based on binary ECG conversion system that supports the conversion of a binary ECG format into XML-based HL7 aECG for the interoperability of ECG. HL7 aECG is a XML based standard for interoperability of ECG waveform. For the conversion of variety of ECG formats, we propose a binary ECG description mechanism. In order to describe binary ECG more efficiently, we develop a XML-based Binary ECG Description (BED) Language. One of the powerful features of using the XML-based ECG Description mechanism is that ECG data can read from various formats without the modification of source code of conversion system, and consequently it reduces conversion system maintenance costs.

  • Binary vectors, pBI-ActR1, pBI-ActF1 and pBSH-ActR1, were constructed using pGA642, the replication origin of pTi12 and the rice actin promoter. The sizes of pBI-ActR1, pBI-ActF1 and pBSH-ActR1 were 12.9 kb, 13.2 kb and 11.95 kb, respectively. These vectors containing a rice actin promoter followed by a GUS structural gene could induce stronly the expression of GUS gene in transformed rice cells. Rice explants from 3-4 day old seedlings after germinatin were cocultured with A. tumefaceins harboring pBI-ActR1, pBI-ActF1 or pBSH-ActR1, and then GUS expression in the explants was assayed. Transformation of rice explants by these binary vectors was tissue-specific, such that the meristematic regions of shoot apex, root and hypocotyl were transformed by these binary vectors.
