  • This study intends to examine the characteristics of Korean students' mathematics achievement according to the TIMSS-R International Benchmarks in the relation with mathematics curriculum and text. The concrete contents of this study are as followings. First, we consider the Korean students' mathematical abilities according to the TIMSS-R international benchmarks classified into Top 10% Benchmark, Upper Quarter Benchmark, Median Benchmark, and Lower Quarter Benchmark. Second, we examine the precent correct and the error-types of Korean students on the anchor items of such benchmarks. From these examinations, we grasp the mathematical titles that Korean students showed insufficient performance and lead the educational implications.

  • This paper discusses computer system performance evaluation and analysis by employing a simulator which able to execute a symmetric multiprocessor in machine simulation environment. We also perform a multiprocessor system analysis using SPLASH-2, which is a suite of multi-program benchmarks for multiprocessors, to perform the behavior study of the symmetric multiprocessor OS kernel, IRIX5.3. To validate the scalability of symmetric multiprocessor system, we demonstrate structure and evaluation methods for symmetric multiprocessor as well as a functionality-based software simulator, SimOS. In this paper, we examine cache miss count and stall time on the symmetric multiprocessor between the local instruction and local data, using the multi-program benchmarks such as RADIX sorting algorithm and Cholesky factorization.

  • NECP-SARAX is a neutronics analysis code system for advanced reactor developed by Nuclear Engineering Computational Physics Laboratory of Xi'an Jiaotong University. In past few years, improvements have been implemented in TULIP code which is the cross-section generation module of NECP-SARAX, including the treatment of resonance interface, considering the self-shielding effect in non-resonance energy range, hyperfine group method and nuclear library with thermal scattering law. Previous studies show that NECP-SARAX has high performance in both fast and thermal spectrum system analysis. The accuracy of TULIP code in fast and thermal spectrum system analysis is demonstrated preliminarily. However, a systematic verification and validation is still necessary. In order to validate the applicability of TULIP code for full energy range, 147 fast spectrum critical experiment benchmarks and 170 thermal spectrum critical experiment benchmarks were selected from ICSBEP and used for analysis. The keff bias between TULIP code and reference value is less than 300 pcm for all fast spectrum benchmarks. And that bias keeps within 200 pcm for thermal spectrum benchmarks with neutron-moderating materials such as polyethylene, beryllium oxide, etc. The numerical results indicate that TULIP code has good performance for the analysis of fast and thermal spectrum system.

  • As new database systems are developed or new functions are added to existing database systems, database developers or users would like to evaluate new database systems or new functions. This paper presents an integrated database benchmark suite. The integrated suite offers genetic benchmarks, custom benchmark, and hybrid benchmarks to users on a unified Web user interface. With regard to text data generation, the integrated suite supports eight data distributions with three data types. The integrated suite can also generate XML data in three different ways. Users can run benchmarks in realistic environments by performing the workload generation facility of the integrated suite, which generates composite workloads similar to real-world workloads. Using supporting tools, users can easily implement new generic and custom benchmarks in the integrated suite. An illustrative demonstration to add a new custom benchmark into the integrated suite is presented.

  • IBM developed the MPI-IO, we call it MPI-2, on the General Parallel File System. We designed and implemented various Matrix Multiplication Benchmarks to evaluate its performances. The MPI-IO on the General Parallel File System shows four kinds of data access methods : the non-collective and blocking, the collective and blocking, the non-collective and non-blocking, and the split collective operation. In this paper, we propose benchmarks to measure the IO time and the computation time for the data access methods. We describe not only its implementation but also the performance evaluation results.

  • Historically, performance prediction and sizing of server systems have been the key purchasing argument for customer. To accurate server's sizing and performance prediction, it is necessary to correctness guideline for sizing and performance prediction. But existing guidelines have many errors. So, we examine the benchmarks of performance organization such as SPEC and TPC. And then we consider to TPC-C and TPC-E benchmarks for OLTP server's sizing and performance prediction that is a basic concept of guidelines. Eventually, we propose improvement of errors in guidelines.

  • Performance index is a measure of telecommunications network integrating reliability and capacity simultaneously. This paper suggests a computerized algorithm evaluating a performance index for telecommunications network and compares this computerized algorithm with the algorithm[1] by experimenting on several benchmarks. A computerized algorithm proposed by this paper is superior to the algorithm[1] with respect to the computation time for most of the benchmarks.

  • Database system benchmarks, which are usually evaluated to use the maximized resource in order to get the best results, arc not likely to simulate the real environment. We propose a workload generator that helps benchmarks be executed in the environment similar to a real world. The workload generator can create memory-bound, CPU-bound, and I/O-bound workloads. The workload generator allows users to create an integrated workload. which is similar to a real workload users run across in practice. Finally, we conducted the experiments that the Wisconsin benchmark was performed with the TPC-C and with the workload generation tool, and showed the feasibility of the proposed workload gen-eration tool comparing with two experimental results.

  • A review of the documentation and an interpretation of the NEA-1517/74 and NEA-1517/80 shielding benchmarks (measurements of photon leakage flux from a hollow sphere with a central 14 MeV neutron source) from the SINBAD database with the Monte Carlo code MCS and the most up-to-date ENDF/B-VIII.0 neutron data library are conducted. The two analyzed benchmarks describe satisfactorily the energy resolution of the photon detector and the geometry of the spherical samples with inner beam tube, tritium target and cooling water circuit, but lack information regarding the detector geometry and the distances of shields and collimators relatively to the neutron source and the detector. Calculations are therefore conducted for a sphere model only. A preliminary verification of MCS neutron-photon calculations against MCNP6.2 is first conducted, then the impact of modelling the inner beam tube, tritium target and cooling water circuit is assessed. Finally, a comparison of calculated results with the libraries ENDF/B-VII.1 and ENDF/B-VIII.0 against the measurements is conducted and shows reasonable agreement. The MCS and MCNP inputs used for the interpretation are available as supplementary material of this article.

  • Database benchmarks require efficient of large-scale data. This presents the system architecture, control flows, and characteristics of the data generator we have developed. The data generator features generation of large-scale data, column-by-column data generation, a number of data distributions and verification, and real data generation. An extensive conparison with other data generators in terms of function is also presented. Finally, empirical performance experiments between RAID systems and non-RAID one have been conducted to alleviate I/O bottleneck. The test results can serve as guidelines to help confifure system architecture.
