In the current study, it is suggested that when two emotions are presented through cross-modality, such as auditory and visual, incongruence will influence arousal, recognition, and recall of subjects. The first hypothesis is that incongruent cross-modality does not only increase arousal more than the congruent, but it also increases recall and recognition more than congruent. The second hypothesis is that arousal modulates recall and recognition of subjects. To demonstrate the two hypotheses, our experiment's conditions were manipulated to be congruent and incongruent by presenting positive or negative emotions, visually and acoustically. For dependent variables, we measured recall rate and recognition rates. and arousal was measured by PAD (pleasure-arousal-dominance) scales. After eight days, only recognition was measured repeatedly online. As a result, our behavioral experiment showed that there was a significant difference between arousal before watching a movie clip and after (p<.001), but no difference between the congruent condition and incongruent condition. Also, there was no significant difference between recognition performance in the congruent condition and incongruent condition, but there was a main effect of the clips' emotions. Interestingly after analyzing recognition rates separately depending on clips' emotions, there was a significant difference between congruent and incongruent conditions in the only negative clip (p= .044), not in the positive clip. In a detailed result, recognition in the incongruent condition is more than in the congruent condition. Furthermore, in the case of recall performance, there was a significant interaction between the clips' emotions shown in the clips and congruent conditions (p=.039). Through these results, the effect of incongruence with negative emotion was demonstrated, but an incongruent effect by arousal could not be demonstrated. In conclusion, in our study, we tried to determine the impact of one method to convey a story dramatically and have an effect on memory. These effects are influenced by the subjects' perceived emotions (valence and arousal).
Hibernation is regarded as a physiological and behavioral adaptation that permits the survival of animals such as bats during seasonal periods of energy shortage. This study investigated the hibernation period of Plecotus ognevi in the temperate climate zone and the relationship between the thermal preference and hibernating process of bats. We hypothesized that the hibernation period of bats is closely related to the external temperature and temperature preference of bat species in the temperate region. To verify this hypothesis, we surveyed the distribution of the P. ognevi population in South Korea, and the temperature preference and the characteristics of hibernacula of P. ognevi. We predict that hibernation in the bat will begin when the external temperature drops below the thermal preference of the species and will leave from hibernation when the external temperature is higher than the thermal preference. P. ognevi hibernated in roosts maintained in low temperature ambient conditions with $-3.5{\sim}7.5^{\circ}C$). The body temperatures (averaged $3.01{\pm}1.30^{\circ}C$, ranged $0.1{\sim}7.8^{\circ}C$) of hibernating bats were closely related to the rock surface temperatures rather than the ambient temperatures. The bats began to hibernate in late November and final arousals occurred in mid-March, so that the total length of the hibernation was 115~120 days. The period of hibernation was strongly influenced by fluctuations in the external mean temperature. This study suggests that the onset and termination of P. ognevi hibernation is due to the interaction between the temperature of the hibernacula and that of the external environment and is based on the thermal preference of the bats. The study also suggests that the hibernation strategy such as thermal preference and hibernation periods of this species affect to distribution as bat species adapting to a severely climate.
Background/Aims There has been major progress in our understanding of the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and novel treatment classes have emerged. The Rome IV guidelines were published in 2016 and together with the growing body of Asian data on IBS, we felt it is timely to update the Asian IBS Consensus. Methods Key opinion leaders from Asian countries were organized into 4 teams to review 4 themes: symptoms and epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and investigations, and lifestyle modifications and treatments. The consensus development process was carried out by using a modified Delphi method. Results Thirty-seven statements were developed. Asian data substantiate the current global viewpoint that IBS is a disorder of gut-brain interaction. Socio-cultural and environmental factors in Asia appear to influence the greater overlap between IBS and upper gastrointestinal symptoms. New classes of treatments comprising low fermentable oligo-, di-, monosacharides, and polyols diet, probiotics, non-absorbable antibiotics, and secretagogues have good evidence base for their efficacy. Conclusions Our consensus is that all patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders should be evaluated comprehensively with a view to holistic management. Physicians should be encouraged to take a positive attitude to the treatment outcomes for IBS patients.
During the pandemic, social distancing continued for a long period of time, and as a result, this situation raised the possibility of the online space as a place for serious social relationships. In particular, metaverse platforms are adding to the reality of virtual space by expanding their functions so that users can provide various online events and have a variety of new experiences. This study attempted to examine the social relationship between reality and the metaverse according to social inclinations and behavior patterns. As a result of this study, the group with a high sense of inferiority in their usual relationship and the group with low satisfaction with their usual social interaction felt high discomfort at a similar level in both real and metaverse relationships. The group with the opposite inclination felt more uncomfortable in the metaverse relationship than in reality. In addition, whether the behavior patterns in the metaverse and in reality were different or same did not significantly affect the difference in attidudes between the metaverse and reality. In the case of group with different behavior patterns, however, if they were satisfied with how they look in the metaverse, their intimacy with social relationships was also high. This results implicate that we need to make an special effort for the development of social relationships in the metaverse era.
This study aimed to find out the formation of ecologically educational place identity of nature trails in national parks, which elementary school students to adults can understand, by analyzing the connectivity between characteristics (signs) of nature trails and elementary science environment-related key concepts and the domain of ecological education in the course of environment and by developing a semiotic interpretation model of place identity based on Barthes's semiotic theory. When analyzing correlations between the interpretation board-focused surrounding environment of nature trails and the content system of ecological education, this study found out that it showed the highest connectivity with the domain of 'System of Ecological Environment'. When analyzing the formation of place identity of nature trails in terms of semiotics, this study discovered that geographical locations or landscapes, artificial environments and physical elements as characteristics of surrounding environments mostly acted on the formation of placeness. Besides, it was found that both knowledge and attachment elements equally could act on the formation of a sense of place. Being likely to develop through interaction between placeness and a sense of place, place identity was mostly composed of behavioral internal stages and sympathetic internal stages. To diversify the formation of place identity, however, this study found it necessary to develop environment education projects and create surrounding environments and interpretation boards with the environmental uniqueness of nature trails reflected much more.
Power and status are core elements that distinguish social classes and strongly influence social interaction. Although they are the foundation of social influence, they have different origins (Fragale et al., 2011). While power usually is based on personal ability or legal, institutional legitimacy, status is rooted in voluntary support from other people. Hence, whereas people with power often demonstrate egoistic behavior, those with high status show relationship-based altruism (Hasty & Maner, 2020). People recognize the difference between the two and have stereotypical beliefs or expectations about the people's behavior with high power or status (Magee, 2009). The current research tested how the judgment on social exclusion, the unique social influence of power and status, changes depending on the actor's power and status. We constructed social exclusion scenarios in which we manipulated actors' power and status and asked participants to rate an actor's pain and behavioral fairness. Participants' ratings showed that the actor's fairness and pain would differ depending on the actor's power and status (Expt. 1), which is consistent with the stereotypes above. In particular, the significant effects of the actor's anonymity in the cases of low power and high status (Expts. 2A, 2B) provide further evidence for the proposal that status but not power originates from voluntary support from others.

The purpose of this study is to analyze factors that affect road users' acceptance of fully autonomous vehicles (level 4 or higher). A survey was done with drivers of general cars and pedestrians who share roads with fully autonomous vehicles. Five acceptability factors were selected: trust towards technology, compatibility, policy, perceived safety, and perceived usefulness. The effect on behavioral intention was analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The perceived safety and trust towards technology were found to be very important in the acceptance of fully autonomous vehicles, regardless of the respondent, and policy was not influential. Compatibility and perceived usefulness were particularly influential factors for drivers. In order to improve the acceptance by road users, securing technical completeness of fully autonomous vehicles is important. Certification and evaluation of the safe driving ability of fully autonomous vehicles should be thoroughly performed, and based on the results, it is necessary to improve the perception by road users. It is necessary to positively recognize fully autonomous vehicles through education and publicity for road users and to support their smooth interaction.
Consumers of web novels read online reviews in order to decrease uncertainty when purchasing a web novel. This study examines the types of messages (factual or evaluative) that consumers find more useful and verifies the moderating effect of individual analytical decision-making style levels on differences in usefulness evaluation. Based on the tendency to acquire objective information, the usefulness of factual online reviews was expected to be higher in the context of buying experience goods, such as a web novel. Levels of analytical decision-making styles, which were classified based on individual perception, are also expected to affect the usefulness evaluation of reviews. Experiments 1 and 2 were repeatedly conducted to examine whether consumers think factual reviews are more useful than evaluative reviews. In particular, Experiment 2 was conducted to simulate the circumstance of selecting a romance web novel and demonstrated that reviews have a significant effect on messages and decision-making styles. The interaction effect between analytical decision-making style levels and review message types was also confirmed in Experiment 2. The results of this study can help researchers and marketers comprehend the behavioral patterns of web novel readers when evaluating reviews and consuming experience goods.
This study aimed to understand social interactions by observing the courtship and attack behavior between individuals of 15 (6 females and 9 males) Reeves' turtle (Mauremys reevesii) in captivity in the Wolchulsan National Park. CCTV was installed in the study area from May 18, 2020 to October 19, 2020 and recorded 3 days a week (24 hours/day) for a total of 64 days and analyzed at intervals of 10 minutes per hour. Male turtle courtship was observed 884 times in total, with the heaviest females receiving the highest courtship frequency (357 times) and the smallest females receiving the least courtship (3 times). Of a total of observed 259 aggressive behaviors, 30 were for female to female, 81 for male to male, and 148 for female to male. Dominance hierarchy identified based on the result ranked females higher overall than males, and the larger the body, the higher the ranking. This study was the first in Korea to confirm individuals with high probability of reproduction through the frequency of courtship in the Reeves' turtle and investigate dominance hierarchy according to attack behavior. Our results can be used as reference behavioral data for managing and protecting the endangered Reeves' turtles and will help us understand their social structure.
This study empirically analyzed the effect of perceived injustice on service recovery measures proposed by online food delivery service (OFDS) companies on consumer disappointment. This study adopted interaction justice, information justice, procedural justice, and distributive justice as sub-variables of justice perception based on the justice theory. In addition, the differences by generation (MZ generation and other generations) were examined in the relationship between negative word-of-mouth behavior and switching intentions due to service recovery failure. An online survey was conducted targeting 250 adult consumers in the U.S for the empirical analysis of this research model. The results of the data analysis demonstrated that negative perceptions about the procedural justice and distributive justice among the service recovery strategies had a positive effect upon the consumer's disappointment. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the consumer's disappointment due to the perceived injustice of the service recovery strategy had a positive effect on the consumer's negative word-of-mouth behavior and switching intentions. The verification results of the moderation effect in the relationship between negative word-of-mouth behavior and switching intention, it was found that the younger the age(MZ generation), the higher the possibility of causing dysfunctional behavior. This study expands the scope of related research by presenting a new perspective on the justice perception in the service recovery process by verifying dysfunctional behavior of consumers caused due to the failure of the service recovery strategy. It is believed that the results of this study will be used as basic data for the establishment of practical strategies for OFDS companies to prevent double defection of their customers.
