  • In this paper, we observe one of the aquatic insect, fish(Medaka)'s behavior which reacts to giving toxic chemicals until lethal conditions using automatic tracking sl$.$stem. For the result, we define the Pattern A is a normal movement of fish and Pattern B is after giving the chemicals. In order to detect the movement of fish automatically, these patterns are selected for the training data of the artificial neural networks. The average recognition rates of the pattern B are remarkably increased after inputs of toxic chemical(diazinon) while the Pattern A is decreased distinctively. This study demonstrates that artificial neural networks are useful method for detecting presence of toxicoid in environment as for an alternative of in-situ behavioral monitoring tool.

  • Recently, design patterns have been known to be highly effective and practical. Design pattern is a collection of collaborating classes that captures the application independent behavior of system in a particular domain. By using design pattern, the development time and software quality can be greatly increased. However, systematic development process and detailed instructions of building design patterns have not been studied enough. In this paper. we propose practical intranet structure modeling technique that are based on design pattern. The proposed process consists of the four typical software development phases; analysis, navigation, interface, behavior domain design, and each phase is defined as a logical sequence of development tasks. Since the proposed process is based on design pattern foundation, and can be efficiently produced by applying this process.

  • The purpose of this study was to collect and analyze personal bio data and social network services (SNS) data, derive user preference and user life pattern, and propose intuitive and precise user modeling. This study not only tried to conduct eye tracking experiments using various smart devices to be the ground of the recommendation system considering the attribute of smart devices, but also derived classification preference by analyzing eye tracking data of collected bio data and SNS data. In addition, this study intended to combine and analyze preference of the common classification of the two types of data, derive final preference by each smart device, and based on user life pattern extracted from final preference and collected bio data (amount of activity, sleep), draw the similarity between users using Pearson correlation coefficient. Through derivation of preference considering the attribute of smart devices, it could be found that users would be influenced by smart devices. With user modeling using user behavior pattern, eye tracking, and user preference, this study tried to contribute to the research on the recommendation system that should precisely reflect user tendency.

  • Purpose: Along with the adaptation of a Western dietary pattern and low physical activity, pediatric obesity is increasing in Korea, especially for boys. The aim of this study was to identify dietary behavior patterns and examine the snack consumption, dietary habit, and pediatric obesity by pattern groups. Methods: Boys aged 15~19 years were recruited from one high school in Seoul. A questionnaire including dietary behaviors and lifestyle factors was administered and height and weight were measured. A total of 932 boys participated except boys who had missing or incomplete response (n = 30). Three dietary behavior patterns were identified by cluster analysis; 'Healthy pattern', 'Mixed pattern' and 'Unhealthy pattern'. Results: Snack consumption differed according to dietary behavior patterns group. The healthy and mixed patterns showed higher frequencies of white milk and fruit consumption while the unhealthy pattern as well as the mixed patterns showed higher frequencies of sweetened snack and ice cream consumption. Food availability at home of each food differed according to pattern groups but showed a similar trend with food consumption. Regarding dietary habits, the mixed pattern showed higher proportion of taking dietary supplement and eating dessert while the unhealthy pattern showed lower proportion of eating regular meals and appropriate amount of meals. When the healthy pattern was set as a reference group, the odds ratio of pediatric obesity was 1.11 (CI 0.65-1.87) in the mixed pattern group and 1.88 (CI 1.14-3.10) in the unhealthy pattern group. Conclusion: In conclusion, dietary behaviors including snack consumption and lifestyle factors were connected. Unbalanced diet and undesirable dietary practice are important determinants in pediatric obesity.

  • This paper proposes an intelligent surveillance system to recognize suspicious patterns of the human behavior by using the Hidden Markov Model. First, the method finds foot area of the human by motion detection algorithm from image sequence of the surveillance camera. Then, these foot locus form observation series of features to learn the HMM. The feature that is position of the human foot is changed to each code that corresponds to a specific label among 16 local partitions of image region. Therefore, specific moving patterns formed by the foot locus are the series of the label numbers. The Baum-Welch algorithm of the HMM learns each suspicious and specific pattern to classify the human behaviors. To recognize the inputted human behavior pattern in a test image, the probabilistic comparison between the learned pattern of the HMM and foot series to be tested decides the categorization of the test pattern. The experimental results show that the method can be applied to detect a suspicious person prowling in corridor.

  • Strengthening slender reinforced concrete (RC) columns is a challenge. They are susceptible to overall buckling that induces bending moment and axial compression. This study presents the precise three-dimensional finite element modeling of slender RC columns strengthened with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites sheets with various patterns under concentric or eccentric compression. The slenderness ratio λ (height/width ratio) of the studied columns ranged from 15 to 35. First, to determine the optimal modeling procedure, nine alternative nonlinear finite element models were presented to simulate the experimental behavior of seven FRP-strengthened slender RC columns under eccentric compression. The models simulated concrete behavior under compression and tension, FRP laminate sheets with different fiber orientations, crack propagation, FRP-concrete interface, and eccentric compression. Then, the validated modeling procedure was applied to simulate 58 FRP-strengthened slender RC columns under compression with minor eccentricity to represent the inevitable geometric imperfections. The simulated columns showed two cross sections (square and rectangular), variable λ values (15, 22, and 35), and four strengthening patterns for FRP sheet layers (hoop H, longitudinal L, partial longitudinal Lw, and longitudinal coupled with hoop LH). For λ=15-22, pattern L showed the highest strengthening effectiveness, pattern Lw showed brittle failure, steel reinforcement bars exhibited compressive yielding, ties exhibited tensile yielding, and concrete failed under compression. For λ>22, pattern Lw outperformed pattern L in terms of the strengthening effectiveness relative to equivalent weight of FRP layers, steel reinforcement bars exhibited crossover tensile strain, and concrete failed under tension. Patterns H and LH (compared with pattern L) showed minor strengthening effectiveness.

  • In this study, to achieve the optimal conditions for mechanical hyper-fine pattern fabrication process, deformation behavior of the materials during indentation was studied with numerical method by ABAQUS S/W. Brittle materials (Si, Pyrex glass) were used as specimens, and forming conditions to reduce the elastic restoration and pile-up was proposed. The indenter was modeled a rigid surface. Minimum mesh sizes of specimens are 1-10nm Comparison between the experimental data and numerical result demonstrated that the finite element approach is capable of reproducing the loading-unloading behavior of a nanoindentation test. The result of the investigation will be applied to the fabrication of the hyper-fine pattern.
