Large amplitude oscillatory shear behavior of the network model for associating polymeric systems

  • To understand the large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) behavior of complex fluids, we have investigated the flow behavior of a network model in the LAOS environment. We applied the LAOS flow to the model proposed by Vaccaro and Marrucci (2000), which was originally developed to describe the system of associating telechelic polymers. The model was found to predict at least three different types of LAOS behavior; strain thinning (G' and G" decreasing), strong strain overshoot (G' and G" increasing followed by decreasing), and weak strain overshoot (G' decreasing, G" increasing followed by decreasing). The overshoot behavior in the strain sweep test, which il often observed in some complex fluid systems with little explanation, could be explained in terms of the model parameters, or in terms of the overall balance between the creation and loss rates of the network junctions, which are continually created and destroyed due to thermal and flow energy. This model does not predict strain hardening behavior because of the finitely extensible nonlinear elastic (FENE) type nonlinear effect of loss rate. However, the model predicts the LAOS behavior of most of the complex fluids observed in the experiments.he experiments.

  • 본 논문에서는 복잡적응계 이론에 근거하여 공학교육인증제도와 글쓰기와의 관계를 분석하고 효과적인 공학적 글쓰기 교육 방법을 연구하였다. 인증제도 도입으로 인하여 공학교육은 창발현상을 지속적으로 유지하며 새로운 질서체계를 갖추어 나가고 있는 가운데 의사소통의 중요성을 부각시키고, 다양한 공학적 글쓰기 교육 모형을 요구하고 있다. 이에 대하여 본 연구는 상황학습방법과 글쓰기 포트폴리오 도입 방법을 제안하고, 이를 통해 학생들의 글쓰기 능력향상에 변화가 있었음을 확인하였다. 이러한 논의는 공학교육에서 새로운 공학적 글쓰기 교육 방안을 모색하는 계기가 될 것이다.

  • Recently, the prestressed concrete long-span bridegs are increasingly built at various locations in the world. The mechanical and structural behavior of prestressed concrete bridges is very complex because of nonlinear and time-dependent material behavior and sequential change of structural system due to stepwise construction. These factors may cause construction errors with respect to design value and monitoring system is needed to minimize or to protect construction errors. This study presents the basis development of monitoring system for precise construction of large scale prestressed concrete bridges.

LTS Semantics Model of Event-B Synchronization Control Flow Design Patterns

  • The Event-B design pattern is an excellent way to quickly develop a formal model of the system. Researchers have proposed a number of Event-B design patterns, but they all lack formal behavior semantics. This makes the analysis, verification, and simulation of the behavior of the Event-B model very difficult, especially for the control-intensive systems. In this paper, we propose a novel method to transform the Event-B synchronous control flow design pattern into the labeled transition system (LTS) behavior model. Then we map the design pattern instantiation process of Event-B to the instantiation process of LTS model and get the LTS behavior semantic model of Event-B model of a multi-level complex control system. Finally, we verify the linear temporal logic behavior properties of the LTS model. The experimental results show that the analysis and simulation of system behavior become easier and the verification of the behavior properties of the system become convenient after the Event-B model is converted to the LTS model.

  • In this paper, we introduce the micro robot soccer playing system as a standard test bench for the study on the multiple agent system. Our method is based on following viewpoints. They are (1) any complex behavior such as cooperation among agents must be completed by sequential basic actions of concerned agents. (2) those basic actions can be well defined, but (3) how to organize those actions in current time point so as to result in a new stale beneficial to the end aim ought to be achieved by a kind of self-learning self-organization strategy.

  • Rock masses represent natural systems that are inherently complex and in which multiple mechanisms occur. Rock engineering systems such as tunnel and slope interact with surrounding systems through an exchange of both mass and energy. Accordingly the complex nature of rock masses calls for a system approach, and the open nature of rock engineering even requires the engineering to be controlled by a system approach for surrounding environments. However, traditional methods cannot take all variables and their interactions into account and are limited to the system with single mechanisms. Therefore, they are not proper for a complex and open system, and also cannot portray the whole system. Thus, a system approach is indispensable to rock engineering for dealing with the whole of a complex and open system. In this paper Mechanism Path Analysis Methodology (MPAM) Is Introduced for a system approach to rock engineering. The analysis by the methodology gives us all the information of systems behavior in the context of the whole system in order to accomplish the optimum design in accordance with the project objectives and analysis purposes. As an application a conventional model for the evaluation of TBM tunneling performance system is analyzed by MPAM and the result is compared with that by a traditional method.

  • Understanding chondrocyte behavior inside complex, three-dimensional environments with controlled patterning of geometrical factors would provide significant insights into the basic biology of tissue regenerations. One of the fundamental limitations in studying such behavior has been the inability to fabricate controlled 3D structures. To overcome this problem, we have developed a three-dimensional microfabrication system. This system allows fabrication of predesigned internal architectures and pore size by stacking up the photopolymerized materials. Photopolymer SL5180 was used as the material for 3D scaffolds. The results demonstrate that controllable and reproducible inner-architecture can be fabricated. Chondrocytes harvested from human nasal septum were cultured in two kinds of 3D scaffolds to observe cell adhesion behavior. Such 3D scaffolds might provide effective key factors to study cell behavior in complex environments and could eventually lead to optimum design of scaffolds in various tissue regenerations such as cartilage, bone, etc. in a near future.

An Anomalous Behavior Detection Method Using System Call Sequences for Distributed Applications

  • Distributed applications are composed of multiple nodes, which exchange information with individual nodes through message passing. Compared with traditional applications, distributed applications have more complex behavior patterns because a large number of interactions and concurrent behaviors exist among their distributed nodes. Thus, it is difficult to detect anomalous behaviors and determine the location and scope of abnormal nodes, and some attacks and misuse cannot be detected. To address this problem, we introduce a method for detecting anomalous behaviors based on process algebra. We specify the architecture of the behavior detection model and the detection algorithm. The anomalous behavior detection and analysis demonstrate that our method is a good discriminator between normal and anomalous behavior characteristics of distributed applications. Performance evaluation shows that the proposed method enhances efficiency without security degradation.

선반에서 공정변수가 가공물의 동적 거동 변화에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effects of Process Parameters on Dynamic Behavior Changes of Turning System)

  • This paper presents the influence of the process parameters on the change in dynamic behavior of a lathe turning system. With variation of feed rate, depth of cut, direction of tool motion, cutting speed and tool location along the workpiece, the dynamic characteristics of stable cutting, chatter transition and fully developed chatter regions are demonstrated. The workpiece vibration during machining is continuously measured at different tool locations along the workpiece and quantitatively analyzed. Complex linear behavior due to change of process parameter values as well as fundamental wystem nonlinearity due to change of process configuration indicated by a tool path dependence of the locations of chatter onset and disappearance are described. Finally, the structural characteristics of the turning system which can have large and nonlinear effects on system behavior are presented.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method of the communication system for cooperative behavior and control in a collective autonomous mobile robots. A communication function among the collective robots is essential to intelligent cooperation. In general, global communication is effective for small number of robots. However when the number of robot goes on increasing, this becomes difficult to be realized because of limited communication capacity and increasing amount of information to handle. And also the problems such as communication interference and improper message transmission occur. So we propose local communication system based on infrared sensor to realize the cooperative behavior and control as the solution of above problem. It is possible to prevent overflow of information and exchange of complex information by combining communicate a specific robot. At last we verify the effectiveness of the proposed communication system from example of cooperative behavior.
