  • This paper investigates critical loads of the tapered Beck's columns with clamped and spring supports, subjected to a subtangential follower force. The linearly tapered columns with the solid rectangular cross-section is adopted as the column taper. The differential equation governing free vibrations of such Beck's columns is derived using the Bemoulli-Euler beam theory. Both divergence and flutter critical loads are calculated from the load-frequency curves which are obtained by solving the differential equation. The critical loads are presented as functions of various non-dimensional system parameters: the taper type, the subtangential parameter and the spring stiffness.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate free vibrations and critical loads of the uniform Beck's columns with a tip spring, carrying a tip mass. The ordinary differential equation governing free vibrations of such Beck's column subjected to a follower force is derived based on the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. Both the divergence and flutter critical loads are calculated from the load-frequency curves that are obtained by solving the differential equation numerically. The critical loads are presented in the figures as functions of various non-dimensional system parameters such as the mass moment of inertia and spring parameter.

  • Objectives The purpose of this research is to study the Psychological Characteristics of Korean Medical Students focusing on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 and the Beck Depression Inventory. Methods The survey was conducted on 101 Korean Medicine Students to investigate psychological characteristics focusing on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 and the Beck Depression Inventory. Results 29.7% of students scored more than 10 points in the Beck Depression Inventory. Students with depression according to the Beck Depression Inventory showed the higher scores in the Pd, Si, RC4, WRK, FAM, Mt and MDS scales as compared to the students without depression tendencies (p<.05). Students with depression according to the Beck Depression Inventory showed the higher scores in the Pt, RC7, ANX, A and PK scales as compared to the students without depressive tendencies (p<.05).Conclusions Students with depressive tendencies seem to have more difficulty adjusting socially compared to students without depressive tendencies. In addition, students with depressive tendencies will likely have other psychological problems compared to the students without depressive tendencies.

  • The aim of this study was to assess effects of aromatherapy on anxiety and depression of caregivers for patients in rehabilitation therapy and to provide basic data for the aromatherapy. Beck Anxiety Inventory(BAI) and Beck Depression Inventory(BDI) for the preliminary assessment of anxiety and depressive mood were administered to caregivers for patients in rehabilitation therapy in Chungbuk National University Hospital. Forty two out of seventy subjects who got scores above 10 in BDI were selected. Forty two Participants were divided into orange group, lavender group and control group. They had got the aromatherapy by using the lamp diffusion method for 4 weeks. Only forty participants completed a trial. Effects of the aromatherapy were measured using BAI, Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale(HAM-A), BDI, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAM-D), Self Esteem Scale(SES) and Index of Wellbeing(IOWB) before and after the aromatherapy. Orange group showed significant difference in the change of BDI scores compared with control group. Lavender group showed significant difference in the mean change of BAI, BDI and IOWB scores compared with control group. These results suggested that aromatherapy with orange oil was effective for depression and the aromatherapy with lavender oil was effective for anxiety as well as depression.

  • Objectives: To review studies on HonBeck (魂魄) in Traditional Chinese Medicine and clearly understand the psychological theory in traditional Chinese medicine. Methods: We reviewed studies published in China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) up to 2016. Keyword was "魂魄". We found 103 articles about HonBeck (魂魄). Among them, articles describing the spirit of souls and ghost not related to TCM were excluded. We only included papers related to TCM, including those that performed comparative study on Honbeck (魂魄) between the Canon of Internal and recent studies published. Specialty publications on Honbeck (魂魄) within oriental medicine were also included. Results: Many advanced opinions on concepts of Honbeck(魂魄) between Ohsin (五神) and Ohji (五 志) were obtained. Conclusions: Ohsin (五神) is useful to explain human's whole psychologic activity and process of human memory. Hon (魂) can be described as personality in mental activity. Beck (魄) can be described as sensory and perception in mind.

  • In this paper the influence of rotary inertia, shear and compressibility on the value of the critical force for the Beck's column is analyzed. The constitutive equation is of Engesser's type. As a result, the critical load parameter for which instability of flutter type occurs is calculated for several values of the column's parameters.

The linearly tapered solid rectangular cross-sections are adopted as the column taper. The differential equation governing free vibrations of such columns, also called Beck's columns, is derived using the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. Both divergence and flutter critical loads are calculated from the load-frequency curves that are obtained by solving the differential equation. The critical loads are presented as functions of various non-dimensional system parameters, namely, the taper type, the subtangential parameter, and the mass ratio.

  • An analysis is presented for the vibration and stability of Beck's column carring a tip mass at its free and subjected there to a follower compressive force by using variational approach. The influence of transverse shear deformation and rotatory inertial of the mass of the column upon the critical flutter load and frequency is considered, and Timoshenko's shear coefficient K' is calculated by Cowper's formulae. It is, moreover, worth noticing that the influence of inertial moment of tip mass upon the flutter load and frequency is investigated. The centroid of a tip mass is offset from the free end of the beam and located along its extended axis of the two cases, one of which has a tip mass increasing as .xi., the tip mass offset parameter, is augmented, the other has a tip mass constant but the inertial moment is variable according to a magnitude of .eta., the tip mass offset parament. This study reveals that the effects of inertial moment of a tip mass and larger value of P are specially remarkable even a tip mass is a same.
