  • The elevated railway station, above which a train is passing, is vulnerable to noise and vibration compared to other station types. To better identify the vibration characteristics of the elevated railway station, the transferred vibration from approach bridges should be analyzed. In this paper, through experiments and simulations, the transfer characteristics of the vibration from approach bridges is analyzed. The study structure is Geomgok station and the anaylses are conducted using ABAQUS three dimensional numerical model. To identify the change in the transfer characteristics for various bearing types, the analyses are performed considering mechanical properties of bearing for railway bridges. The measurement is performed using the accelerometers attached to the approach bridges and the station structure along the passing path of trains.

  • The increased vibration level of the railway bridge could make significant noise and, also, cause structural damages such as fatigue cracks. Related to these subjects, a spherical elastomeric bridge bearing, which is layered by hemispherical rubber and steel plates, was investigated in terms of its vibration performance. Several different shape factors could be considered by changing the curvature of hemispherical surface and size in rubber and steel plate thicknesses in the manufacturing stage. The performance of the spherical elastomeric bearing for the reduction in vibration was compared with that of the conventional bearing by performing vibration experiments on a scale-downed model. The rubber material characteristics and spherical shape are found to be important parameters in reducing the bridge vibration.

  • In the preceding Part I study, for improving the unbalance response vibration of a large PRT motor-generator rotor fundamentally by design, a series of design analyses were carried out for bearing improvement by retrofitting from original plain partial journal bearings, applied for operation at a rated speed of 1,800 rpm, to final tilting pad journal bearings. To satisfy evenly key basic lubrication performances such as the minimum lift-off speed and maximum oil-film temperature, a design solution of 5-pad tilting pad journal bearings and maximizing the direct stiffness by about two times has been achieved. In this Part II study, a detailed rotordynamic analysis of the large PRT motor-generator rotor-bearing system will be performed, applying both the original plain partial journal bearings and the retrofitted tilting pad journal bearings, to confirm the effect of rotordynamic vibration improvement after retrofitting. The results show that the rotor unbalance response vibrations with the tilting pad journal bearings are greatly reduced by as much as about one ninth of those with the plain partial journal bearings. In addition, for the tilting pad journal bearings there exist no critical speed up to the rated speed and just one instance of a concerned critical speed around the rated speed, whereas for the plain partial journal bearings there exist one instance of a critical speed up to the rated speed and two instances of concerned critical speeds around the rated speed.

  • In doing the foundation work in the downtown, the popular complaints by means of Noise and vibration have been became heavy burden. Therefore, the noise & vibration-free screw PHC pile method will contribute to the foundation work by removal of the popular complaints and improvement of the constructability. In this paper, the load bearing capacity and displacement characteristics of the noise & vibration-free screw PHC pile were analyzed. The noise & vibration-free screw PHC pile's behavior was better well than the existing PHC pile's one.

  • In this paper, a study on the vibration characteristics of the pitch gearbox of 8 MW large capacity wind turbines was conducted. The vibration analysis method of the pitch gearbox was proposed by combining the planetary gear train vibration model with the housing and carrier finite element model using the substructural synthesis method. We modeled the vibration excitation source for mass unbalance, gear mesh frequency, and bearing defect error action on the pitch gearbox, and performed a critical speed analysis. As a result of analyzing the critical speed of the pitch gearbox, the critical speed for the excitation source did not occur within the operation speed (84.87 rpm). In addition, as a result of applying 10 %, 20 %, …, 100 % of the largest load duration distribution (LDD) load, it was found that the bearing stiffness and the primary natural frequency were larger as the LDD load was larger. The primary natural frequency was 81.47 Hz for the lowest load among LDD data, which exceeded an operating speed of 84.87 rpm (5.09 Hz), so it was found that vibration caused by the change of LDD load did not occur in the operating speed range.

  • In this paper, we propose a linear modeling and identical PD controller design scheme for the three-pole hybrid-type AMB recently developed in the laboratory, which consists of three permanent magnets, providing bias flux, three Hall diodes, measuring rotor displacements, and ring type permanent magnet bearing, stabilizing in axial and tilting directions. Along the three physical coordinates formed by three poles, we introduce the redundant coordinate system and three identical decoupled controllers to construct linear model. The experiments are also carried out in order to verify the effectiveness of proposed controller in stabilizing the transient and steady state response of rotor.

  • This paper proposes a method to calculate the static characteristics of the FDBs with the curved surface. The general Reynolds equations are derived for the curved surfaces in the ${\theta}s$ plane. And the Reynolds equation is transformed to the finite element equations by considering the continuity of pressure and flow at the interface between the curved, journal and the thrust bearings. It also includes the Reynolds boundary condition in the numerical analysis to simulate the cavitation phenomenon. The static characteristics of the coupled journal and conical bearings were investigated due to the variation of conical angle. It shows that the conical angle is one of the important design parameters affecting the static and dynamic characteristics of FBBs.

  • This paper concerns on a non-rotating axis-active magnetic bearing (AMB) system subject to base motion. In such a system, it is desirable to retain the axis within the predetermined air-gap. Motivated from this, an optimal acceleration feedforward control is proposed to reduce the base motion response without deteriorating other feedback control performances. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed feedforward control reduces the air-gap deviation to 29% that by feedback control alone.

  • This paper presents an optimum design of rotor-bearing system using a hybrid method to compute the solutions of optimization problem. The present hybrid algorithm namely Enhanced Artificial Life Algorithm(EALA), is a synthesis of an artificial life algorithm(ALA) and the random tabu search(R-tabu) method. We applied EALA to the optimum design of rotor-shaft system supported by the floating ring journal bearings. we will propose the optimum shape of rotor, position and shape of bearings. Through this study, we investigate the reliability and usefulness of EALA.

  • A rotor-bearing system has been investigated, including internal damping and axial torque using finite dynamic elements. A procedure is presented for dynamic modeling of rotor-bearing system which consist of finite dynamic shaft elements, rigid disk, and bearing and seal. A finite dynamic element model including the effects of rotatory inertia, gyroscopic moments, axial force, and axial torque is developed using the frequency dependent shape function. The natural whirl speeds, stability, and unbalance response of rotor system are calculated on several cases and compared with the conventional finite elements.
